Olawepo Promises 400,000 Jobs In Kwara by experts: 9:25am On Mar 17, 2011 |
http://thenationonlineng.net/web3/news/30994.html DEMOCRATIC Peoples Party (DPP) governorship candidate in Kwara State Mr. Gbenga Olawepo has promised to create 400,000 jobs within four years, if elected governor next month. He said the jobs would be created through the development of agro-allied industry, investment in agriculture and industrialisation. Olawepo spoke with reporters in Lagos. He said: “I will establishment an ethanol plant, palm oil processing, groundnut processing mill, rice processing mills in addition to entering into a joint venture with foreign investors. ‘’We will increase workers salary because Kwara workers are the least paid in the country.” The DPP candidate said he would give priority to education by making primary, secondary and vocational education free. He said schools would be renovated and teachers recruited. In addition, he promised to pay West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) fees for pupils. Olawepo said if elected next month, students of tertiary institutions would be paid bursary while indigent and gifted students would be given scholarships. He said through prudent use of the money from the Federation Account, he would be able to fund these programmes. Olawepo, who insists he was elected governor in 2007 “even when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was still united and strong, before my victory was upturned,” said he would win next month.’’ He said: “If I could defeat them in 2007 when they were united, why not now when the PDP has been factionalised into two with some of them moving to the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN).” Olawepo described the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as “a small party in Kwara, which has been factionalised into three.” He said ‘’both the ACN candidate, Mr. Dele Belgore and the PDP candidate Fatah Ahmed are new in politics. “Gbemi Saraki, the candidate of the ACPN, has never campaigned statewide. She has only won election into the Senate, which is a third of the governorship constituency.” He said he is the most experienced candidate given his showing in 2007. Olawepo said the state’s voter register was credible. He hailed the Police for providing a level paying field for all candidates.
