Itsekiri forum rejects resource control Written by Gabriel Enogholase A forum of Itsekiri technocrats, businessmen, politicians and Academicians has rejected the concept of resource control, and opted for derivation. The conference was convened by Mr. Daniel Reyenieju, a member of the House of Representatives. Reasons advanced for the Itsekiri’s rejection of resource control were that “for now, resource control is not politically expedient” and that “resource control, despite its importance and beauty as a concept, as far as the Itsekiri are concerned, is a political horse that won’t run. “Besides, the Itsekiri are not prepared to join the bandwagon of the multitude to partake in the feast of resource control,” a source told Vanguard. Prof. Tony Afejuku of the University of Benin, who presented the lead paper on Derivation at the conference, when contacted, referred Vanguard to the Convener, Mr. Reyenieju, who could not be reached on phone. He said the “Itsekiri are committed to the Nigerian Federation and are prepared to still be their brothers' keepers, as such for this reason and more, they are not prepared to be part of the agitators of resource control.” Besides, Vanguard further gathered that the conference also deliberated On the ceding of oil wells from Itsekiri land to Ondo State by the Obasanjo Administration. “Apart from political and legal solutions, dialogue with our Yoruba brothers is in the offing. “We have never fought war with our Yoruba brothers. We shall not do so now. We shall resolve the issue amicably. Dialogue is in the offing. The spirit of our forefathers will not Forgive us if we go to war with our Yoruba brothers over the issue. The matter will be resolved to the advantage of the Itsekiri,” he said. http://www.urhoboland.com/News%20Files/Itsekiri%20forum%20rejects%20resource%20control.htm |

Who is Daniel Reyenieju? lol I wish you knew who the Itsekiri leaders were. Its like saying Alj harem has hosted a meeting in his house to dictate the interests of Kanuri people. That would be laughable, wouldn't it? You went so far to dig up some old, meaningless stuff from political jobbers. Serious people look to Itsekiri moulders of thought, like Professor Itse Sagay, J.O.S Ayomike, Prof. J.N. Omatseye, Barr. Fred Agbeyegbe; not agbero's like Reyenieju. The ND has one voice, try harder. This is Prof. Itse Sagay on true federalism, it accurately reflects the true Itsekiri position, not any cowardly ceding of bonafide Itsekiri oil bearing land, peopled by their ancestors to Ondo state: http://www.waado.org/nigerdelta/essays/resourcecontrol/sagay.html http://www.waado.org/nigerdelta/essays/resourcecontrol/Sagay2.html |

@ Alj Those are definitely not our leaders. Why? Who would not want resource control Moreover, its like they were on opium when they took the interview because the whole thing was scanty and lacked any ideology. Yes, we would NEVER fight against our yoruba brothers (NEVER) but why bring that into a discussion that does not involve them It seems they were paid to say these things, in my opinion. |

So, the REAL Itsekiri was even considering WAR against the Yoruba for control of own oil resources. hehehe! In fact they indirectly accuse Yoruba of theft here! So who is this jason character speaking for when he says Itsekiri will follow Yoruba "cousins" into Oduduwa? I dey laugh o! |

Onlytruth: You are a mor.on! Did you read the article at all?? Alj Uche: We will never go to war with our BROTHERS NOT COUSINS. But if the idea of us fighting with the yoruba makes you happy then carry on!! Do you even know that we have a representative in Afenifere?? Well, whatever makes you happy. |

The article is nuanced but the core message is only lost to fools. I didn't miss the message, which is simple: "You (our so called Yoruba brothers) stole our oil wells by ceding them to Ondo state. We will not fight you, yet, because historically, we dialogue first!" De tin pain Itsekiri well well! |

Heh. Nice spin. If this is Yoruba stealing oil wells from Itsekiri, then the recent ceding of oil wells from Akwa Ibom forced by Amaechi is Igbo domination of their Eastern "brothers" A simple border dispute between two oil-producing communities (Ilaje of Ondo, Itsekiri of Delta) doesn't equal an ethnic plot. In particular, given that Ibori (an Urhobo) signed away the oil wells and land to Ondo (http://www.africa.co.ee/2008/07/nigeria-itsekiri-communities-lay-claim-to-returned-ceded-oil-wells.html), who exactly is "conspiring" against who? Nice attempt at FUD, jackass. |

Apart from political and legal solutions, dialogue with our Yoruba I read Ondo State lost 260 Oil wells to Delta state a few year's ago (see links), so what's new? Nigerian Oil wells/wealth belongs to Nigerian Politicians, their families and their goons regardless of ethnicity. Join politics my people, quit crying over resources that will not benefit you. http://nigeriavillagesquare.com/forum/main-square/21532-ondo-loses-whopping-260-oil-wells-delta.html http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5589595-147/ondo_seeks_legal_redress_over_delta.csp |
