Poor Nigerians Will Reach 100 Million By 2022 – World Bank by Hadeylex: 6:04am On Dec 11, 2020
The World Bank on Thursday projected that the number of poor Nigerians will increase from the current 90 million to about 100 million by 2022 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the country’s economy.

It stated that by 2022, about 11 million more Nigerians were expected to fall into poverty due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The World Bank also put the financing portfolio approved by its board for Nigeria at about $11.5bn.

The bank disclosed this during its Nigeria Development Update virtual event, which had the theme ‘Rising to the challenge: Nigeria’s COVID-19 response’.

In his presentation at the event, an economist with the bank, Marco Hernandez, stated that before the COVID-19 pandemic, about two million Nigerians were expected to fall into poverty in 2020 as population growth outpaced economic growth.

He said, “With the COVID-19, the recession is likely to push an additional 6.6 million Nigerians into poverty in 2020, bringing the total newly poor to 8.6 million this year.

“This implies an increase in the total number of poor in Nigeria from about 90 million in 2020 to about 100 million in 2022. Northern states are more likely to be affected.”

On factors that explain the increase in poverty, the bank said having a vulnerable employment, receiving fewer remittances, and being close to the poverty line were some of the factors.

Going by the analysis, your projections maybe wrong. death rate would definitely increase while the birth rate has continued to reduce due to exposure and the biting economy..

By 2022, Nigeria's population would be on a decline thereby gradually fitting into the available infrastructure.

No offense meant

95 million will be Northerners .... those guys are so freeking dumb and destructive .

How can you see a cobbler with 5 wives and 43kids and expect him to be rich for crying out loud?

I stay in the North... you will see a bike man with 4 wives another 43kids

40out of his 43kids are violent and ready to destroy what others have labored to build, just because he/she is from another tribe/religion

If you have a conversation with many of them their only annoyance with ATIKU is that ATIKU is sticking rich... they will ask you why is the school fees in his school so expensive?

Those guys see success as Haram... the few successful ones are politicians they don’t have any Idea on how to invest or save for the future... once a politician from the north retires or loose elections next thing you will see him selling off his property because he is already broke as hell

I HOPE I MADE SENSE

The worst part is that Buhari did not made a single promise. It was Tinubu and Co that was seriously campaigning for him.

Buhari was even shocked when he heard that he promised to be paying unemployed youths admist others. Tinubu akpa amu

Holy Father!

What makes it more difficult for folks is that government has no plan/policy to avoid this.
Be like say Dem dey run the economy on trial and error/autopilot.
There used to be Vision 2020 during Obj' s regime, Whatsup with execution.
This present government came up with ERP(economic recovery plan), how far with it?

Abeg, bring PayPal, Payoneer, Skrill, Neteller and Africard funds.
