I think you are very wrong. advice is free. Though she might have every thing laid down as she wants but one or two info can be very helpful.

Hi all!
thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
@niapay i honestly dont know what a brooder heater is, pls enlighten us. Thanks

@ disguy well we use the lanterns for both light and warmth @ nite, we dont use it much during the day. Thanks for the observation about the lanterns being too close to the polythene.

@LSA well just bear in mind dat in life everything is a challenge, don't allow little set backs to keep u grounded. best of luck as u get a suitable site for ur project.

@Elube wishing u d God's speed with ur construction. The major problem with broiler production is the marketing aspect but we've been looking at it closely. There is a large market but there are a lot of cunning middlemen between the producers and the market. anyways dat is a topic for another day.

once again thanks.

Hi hindsight,
Have they been given any vaccination or medication as at today. On arrival they ought to have taken a vaccine been put in their eyes known as i.o or lasota together with milk(optional) and glucose.

I CAN SEE THAT YOU USE PAPER ON THE FLOOR.
WHILE DIDN’T YOU USE SAW DUST. IT HELPS TO CONTROL THE BIRDS DROPPING BETTER.
YOU NEED STOVE IN ADDITION TO THE LANTERNS AT THE BIRDS EARLY STAGE (FIRST 7 – 10 DAYS).
EXCEPT YOUR AREA IS HOT IN THE AFTERNOON, YOU MIGHT STILL NEED SOME WARMTH FOR THE BIRDS.

pls will like to know how much will cost me to start a poultry farm?
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by theresaluv: 11:44pm On Jun 18, 2011
@Hi clothiers, the cash you have at hand will determine the set up. For instance if you have like 200,000, construction, buying of pullets(day old chicks) and feeding up to laying period and vaccination can take up to that amount with 100birds for a start.
Presently, i started with that amount, my birds were delivered to me on the 6th of june and they are doing very well with enough heat and continuos check both day and night.

Hi Hindsight in regards to your question Brooder light(175w or 250w)/Gas heaters are used to warm the poultry house in cold places – you will also need a gas heater or brooder light if you have baby chicks or day olds – no mum, no warmth. Even if you have a chicken house in a warm area you will still need to raise the temperature to 33 deg for baby chickens. in the first 1-3weeks, send me an email at sales@primatronics.eu so that I will send you a free broiler management guide and layer manage guide information that will help you run farm, in the attached picture is a pic of brooder light, a 175w brooder light can brood 100chicks while the 250w models can brood 200chicks but LPG gas brooder can brood from 1500 to over 100,000 depending on the model.

here is a link of our current 1512 broiler pen: https://skydrive.live.com/?wa=wsignin1.0&cid=c574f8660a097570&sc=documents#!/view.aspx/.Public/1512%20chicken%20run%20house.doc?cid=c574f8660a097570&sc=documents

Hello Hindsight,

It really appreciate your ingenuity at putting this together. I will be an avenue for us to learn and develop through collaboration.

I already have a poultry and fish farm in Lagos, I have however been doing about 200 pullets from ground up. This time I have invested into 2000birds. I intend to use the cage system and i see it as capital intensive as i look to spending About 1.5M on cages procurement but even at that i am sure ROI is still good and its added asset to the farm.

Also, I will be adding 50 turkeys to the existing farm.

My main concern now is that I need to FEED these guys and my solution to this  will be to build a mini feed mill.

Is anyone here in the house who understands poultry feeds, mixing and the machines to setup a small feedmill to feed my birds.

I anticipate your responses.

Its not advisable to use charcoal as a brooder heater, I will advise you buy propane inferred heater, it cost less than $50 http://www.amazon.com/DH-Propane-TankTop-Heater-Sngl/dp/B004LCFTBS/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1309884337&sr=8-13

OUR Self-absorption type smashing agitation unit feed mill is poultry feed machine, fish feed machine, aqua feed machine, livestock fodder machine, chicken feed machine, cow feed machine, cattle feed machine and so on.

Features
1. With reasonable technology, high capacity and low energy consumption. It can produce 1000-3000 tons mash and pellet feed per shift annually;
2. Modular Structure: The plant is compact, occupies less floor space and has low requirement on the mill tower, and needs low investment in civil works. The containerized modular structure is convenient for assembly and disassembly, facilitates the shipment and installation;
3. Centralized control: The analogue panel is adopted. All machines can be interlocked and safety, alarm device is available. The operation is simple and convenient;
4. Wide applicable scope: The plant can produce both poultry & livestock feed and fish feed and is applicable for medium and small sized feed mills and breeding farms.

for small feed mill send email to sales@primatronics.eu for quotation

Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Hindsight(f): 1:00pm On Jul 26, 2011
I will start by asking u all to forgive me. A lot has happened since i last posted here. We have had a serious crisis with the broilers we have just about 300 left. Also the layers are also presently undergoingf crisis and we've lost nearly 200. We have learnt a lot and are still learning.

I have not been around for much of the time, but i will try and update you from time to time.

Presently our layers are about 7 weeks but have not reached optimum growth while the layers are 3 weeks old today.

The crisis with the broilers has been contained. We are praying that they fatten up within the next ten to fourteen days so dat we can sell them off.

Thank u everyone.
