Isoko Dpp Leaders Reject N’assembly Polls Result, Seek Cancellation by Nobody: 4:34pm On Apr 12, 2011
LEADERS of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) in Isoko led by Senator Spanner Okpozo yesterday called for the outright cancellation of last Saturday’s National Assembly elections in the Isoko councils just as they rejected the result of the election.

In a statement yesterday, Okpozo, national leader of the party in Isoko, and chairmen of the party in Isoko North and Isoko-South Local Council Areas, Agese Sunday and Godwin Orhewo, alleged that the security agents posted to the area for the election compromised and connived with the PDP to rig the election.

According to the DPP members in Emede Ward 5, Isoko-South, PDP thugs shot sporadically into the air and carted away ballot boxes to a popular hotel in the area (name withheld) belonging to a PDP chieftain where thumb-printing of the ballot papers took place, adding that at Irri Ward 2, also in Isoko-South, presiding officers and electoral officers were taken to the house of a PDP chieftain in Idheze, where election took place.

They alleged large-scale fraud, intimidation and assault reportedly by paid PDP thugs on their members.

“There was physical intimidation of voters by PDP armed thugs whose nefarious activities were aided by the total absence of any security either at polling stations or in the various communities or any other place in Isoko Land, contrary to the repeated assurances by INEC that adequate security would be provided in all parts of the country during the elections”, Okpozo stated.

“The situation was further worsened by the inaccessibility of the security hotlines advertised by INEC, which hotlines became deliberately cold on the election day. It further alleged that there were several reported cases of physicalassaults on DPP supporters and agents, as well as journalists.

The DPP leaders alleged several cases of ballot-box snatching, pre-thumb printing and terrorising of DPP supporters by sporadic shootings in several wards in Isoko land by PDP armed thugs, stressing that in Oleh, also in Isoko South, one ‘Reginal Supol’ was hired by a serving PDP legislator to divert ballot boxes and papers to his house where thumb-printing of the papers were carried out

The ACN members numbering over 300 thronged the Delta Central Senatorial District collation centre in Ughelli, Ughelli-North Local Council Area and called on INEC to cancel the results and order a rerun.
