triple996: I know you are supporting this move because it's your Buhari's government. You should have asked yourself the number of times this same maintenance has been performed yet the refinery still produces below capacity. If Buhari was a wise man, what he would have done was to sell the refinery to the private sector like Obasanjo once did. Nigeria can live without the useless railways Buhari is constructing up and down. Go into contract with China to build and finance a refinery project in Nigeria. Use the proceed from the sales of the refinery and fund part of the project. China will finance the rest. Leadership is not big deal. We either have leaders who have decided to destroy what's left of this country or people who lack common sense like Buhari. Buhari shames me. How can Nigeria be a crude oil exporter yet we don't have a functional refinery? Meanwhile, Buhari is the minister of petroleum. 1 Like |

sulaak: Said loss happend as a direct result of government price controls to keep petrol prices low. As you know, unless NnPC is privatized and there is deregulation all that will continue But for now we need to get our refineries working again. If it is not working after 3 years then by all means investigate the corrupt APC. Like they don't already have faults for investigating |

Subsidybad21:I quite understand that successive governments has failed this nation. There has been infrasturectural neglect. It is absord that a country like Nigeria will at this stage depend and rely on refined oil importation to survive at 61. If all retrieved assets and looted money recovered has been diversified to building at leas one refinery things will be different. As we have it now, nothing works. Everything is left halfway. Education, transportation, power, health etc. If a government cam handle just one successfully, subsequent governments to also face one and complete it, within 10-20 years things will normalize but as we have it now ,no sector is working. For how long? If care is not taking it will be degenerating because the entire world is sick now but developed countries are still better because some people laid the foundation When will ours be laid? Who will lay it? How long? We haven't started at all |

oyejideogunjumo: It isn't just building a refinery...it is allowing the refinery to be profitable. All our refinereis failed because they were not allowed to run at a profit, and because workers were paid whehter the thing ran well or not. And the reason why they are not running at a profit is because Nigerians want cheap fuel |

Subsidybad21:Nigerians are entitled to their God-given resources, fuel at cheaper rate. Our neighbouring countries depend on our fuel for survival. It is corruption that is the bane of our problem. Other countries have working refineries and no problem. When last was NNPC audited? Those who collapsed the refinery, were they tried? Can NNPC tell us the cost of producing a litre of petrol then we can fix the price adequately. We may try PPP (Public-Private Partnership) if it will work. During the era of subsidy subsidized fuel will be driven across the border to be sold at exorbitant price making double profit home here and outside. Let death penalty be for saboteurs like China and other Orient countries. Something has to be done. We can't just continue this way. May God send us a messiah |

If the criticism is that the cost is too for the repair, I support their claim. But to come up with a grand plan that gvt should not repair the refineries means this criticizers are the ones benefitting from crude being refined outside or are the owners of these refineries outside the country |

oyejideogunjumo: Chad and Niger both have oil, and fuel there sells for N350 per liter. We also produce food, yet if we sold food below what it cost the famer to produce it, and what it cost the trader to bring it, both would be bankrupt We have been bankrupting our fuel industry because cheap fuel. We lsot N4 trillion to keep fuel at N87 per liter. Money that could have been used to build refiniery If you force refiners to sell at a loss in the name of cheap fuel, you get broken down refinereis. Our neighbouring countries depend on our fuel for survival At our expesne. Nigeria has lost billions to fuel smuggling. . It is corruption that is the bane of our problem. Niger has a working refinery because people there pay N350 for fuel. No subsidy. Refinery makes enough of a profit to keep running well. Nigeria won't do the same When last was NNPC audited? Refinereis failed because we sold fuel below what it cost to make it. Can NNPC tell us the cost of producing a litre of petrol then we can fix the price adequately It would have been N165 in 2018 (when fuel was costing N145 per liter). We may try PPP (Public-Private Partnership) if it will work. And it will fail because we still subsidise and control the price of fuel. Niger does PPP for its single refinery, and they charge proper prices to MAKE A PRFIT keep it running...NOT n162 PER LITER...n350 PER LITER....and Lord knows they are poorer than us. During the era of subsidy subsidized fuel will be driven across the border to be sold at exorbitant price making double profit home here and outside And it still continues because we won't allow them to set their price like opther businessmen . Let death penalty be for saboteurs like China and other Orient countries. And that is a nice way to drive off investment, and to make it even more dififcult to make a prpfit to keep refinerieis running. PLus China is a capitalist country. They charge heavily for fuel there.. May God send us a messiah You are the one who can save Nigeria. Run for office. |

triple996: Baba, if only you knew how many times previous governments have blown billions of dollars on these refineries. This will likely be another elephant project. Since Dangote's refinery is projected to be ready by 2023, a smart and progressive government would have been looking to sell 80% of their stake to private investors who can fund the upgrade of these refineries. The Saudis listed just 1.5% of Saudi Aramco on Wall Street and raised $26 billion. Just imagine! The only way forward for Naija is innovation. If we keep doing business as usual, our massive population will continue to suffer. |

Subsidybad21:It is unfortunate I can't reply you segment by segment. But I will try remembering them. From your last take to run for an office, you and I know that Nigeria political terrain is not ready for sincere and truthful people in many ways. How much to collect just printed from? What of campaign? I will be at the background praying with my little hard earned money to feed. You assumed the cost. Let them make analysis and come out with the fact of cost of production here at home. That is how to do business. If we sell for 350 how many people will be able to afford it? Africa is backward because of lack of innovation. We should have diversified to agriculture, mining, production of goods like cars etc. PAN, Volks wage etc were assembled here in Nigeria when I was in secondary school. Where are they now? We have what it takes to develop but who will annex it? Most mornings are done illegally. Who can do that? Is it poor citizens? No. The cost of politics in too much. If our economy is good no need for salary increase. I when N20 was our highest money. In the past you can't have up to N5k. Where will you get it. As for death penalty you need not fear if you are innocent. Let it be to curb and serve as deterrent. |

Subsidybad21: Personally, I always believe governments should focus on policies and leave businesses to private investors to manage. NNPC is possibly the most corrupt oil company in the world, so if you expect this same people to operate a business at a profit, then we are lost. |
