Femi Gbajabiamila: Gas Holds Key Potential For Nigeria's Economy by Paschal2806: 12:11am On Mar 25, 2021
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that the gas sector holds key potential for the Nigerian economy as the world looks outside the box from dependence on crude oil.

Gbajabiamila said, for this reason, experts in the gas sector should partner with those in government for the development of the sector to achieve optimum results, noting Nigeria needs to maximize its natural gas resource.

Speaking while receiving a delegation of the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) in his office on Wednesday, Gbajabiamila said the on-going process of passing the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) had provided an opportunity for the experts to collaborate with the House to incorporate futuristic gas legislation that would be beneficial to Nigeria and Nigerians.

“Definitely, it’s now all about gas. Crude oil, as we know and which we all rely on, is not so infinite; its end is almost around the corner, and we don’t want to be caught unawares. We have to be prepared for that day.

“That is why I agreed on the issue of the PIB and why, from the ground floor, the gas sector needs to key in and lock in its role in the piece of legislation that would come out in PIB.

“This is very important because the PIB is going to be there for ages and this is the time we need to key in the gas sector in framing that piece of legislation together.

“With our proven reserve and potential that will propel us from the 9th largest producer in the world to the 4th, that’s a blessing we can’t overemphasize as gas touches on every aspect of the economy.

“We are on the same page with you on the need to unlock the potential for the good of Nigeria,” he said.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Lanre Lasisi, the Speaker was quoted as saying, “We look forward to sittings like this where we can collaborate and work together for one and one purpose only- to move this country forward and develop our economy, infrastructure and put this country on the line of economic growth.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and the Managing Director of NLNG Limited, Tony Attah, said as a result of the ongoing works on PIB, it was necessary to inform the Speaker of Nigeria’s 200 tcf reserved proven and another 600 tcf potential that needed to be proven.

According to him, combining the proven and potential (800tcf) would place Nigeria in a vantage position of being number 4 from the 9th world’s largest producer of gas.

“Being number 4 is a game-changer that will continue to help Nigeria well into the future, irrespective of the energy transition and changing energy needs.

“We believe that the PIB is a major opportunity, and before it’s signed, we thought we would bring this to your attention,” he added

Neither Gas nor oil will save us
Rather we need to develop our human capital
Countries that have only the latter ALWAYS exploit and outperform countries that have only the former

How else do we explain policemen killing citizens for 100 naira

It's time you are forced to use receipts from your wonderful Cocoa and beutiful groundnut pyramids to subsidize your ostentatiously hedonistic lifestyles! You can't be a parasite while hating your host with all your might, you irritant!
Biggest gas reserves around are in Imo and Abia state! Hope you know that.. Very soon, we will see attempts to attribute the gas from these area to other states.
Stop stealing other people's resources and try to run your life with your earnings for once..

How much gas are we going to sell to run an economy of 200million people going to 450million.

Instead of focusing on human capital we still want to use the old formula of sell natural resources which is a defective ways of running any economy worldwide.

Southern slave.

No go fight for your people liberation. Gas in the south that would be used to feed the north at the detriment of your own people.

You are not ashamed that the Atlantic in Lagos is being manned by fulanis and you cannot determine what happens there. You are busy there speaking refined and polished English.

Hopeless southern leaders.

It is no longer agriculture again abi??

During campaign these guys were preaching agricultural diversification, but immediately after elections agricultural diversification died a natural death, no media house said anything again about agriculture. Today it is gas. All to gather more quick money to share.

These politicians are drowning this country.

The greatest legacy hope uzodinma can bequeath IMO state is ensuring that the owerri- Onitsha industrial layout with an exact size of agbara industrial layout ,is connected with nodes of reticulated gas supply like you have in industrial clusters in Ogun state, and equally like what shell is doing in Abia state.

Ever since mbakwe left office, all governments have been paying lip service to rehabilitating the access roads and interconnectivity of roads within the layout, the layout was planned to have about 200 -250 industries both large and medium scales,

As at 2012 it had about 90 industries operational, but today there are less than 20 with skeletal operations, getting bottled up with frustrations to quit due to poor road conditions, frivolous multiple taxations, policy summersaults, insecurity and poor quality of electricity supply.

Tommy Tommy, innoson, orange drugs, and other industrialist who wants to put a footprint in imo ,have become discouraged due to these factors and many others, imagine situations, existing industries are forced to reduce capacity of functionality due to people being unable to supply them raw materials because of bad and non existence of good road network, and even finished goods getting damaged, and spilled over leading to incurement of lose, which morphed into gradual shutting down and deterioration of such industries ,needless to say ,from boisterous sounds to comatosity /moribundity of deafening quietness.

The corona pandemic dissuaded a Chinese coy from hitting the ground running with about 17 industries of various concerns, the government should incentivise their drive with good fiscal policy for intending industrialist, put words to actions.

Take a que from the likes of Amosun,Obiano,Elrufai,Ambode, who all created a one stop shop for land certifications, and equally availed all instruments to diminish every iota of impediments that could hamper smooth setup of the industries,

Estate developers are encroaching on the land, that should be curtailed, hoteliers and medical firms should be encouraged to equally setup within such layout to improve the lifestyle experience

As at today all street lights, cables and underground drainages have been catered away, while the drains covered up,
with insecurity,overwhelming the layout,
IMO state got a handful of educated, skilled, youthful population, waiting for opportunities to unleash their productive potentials and contribute their quota to the development of their state, hope should become the reincarnate of dee Sam mbakwe ,by making the repositioning of the layout an utmost priority even as he embarks on revamping moribund industries in other parts of the state,

IMO state is strategically located, has all the ingredients to become a top flier of industrialization.

Exactly I believe that's part of Seplat's strategy with the steady progress they are making in the Anoh Gas project. They intend to not only supply the OB3 pipeline but also to create a new corridor gas networks to supply the new Owerri-Onitsha industrial axis.
Industrialist have started buying up land for manufacturing activities. The fuel supply has been secured

The government should make a statement,by comprehensively rehabilitating the road networks of such layouts, that was the game changer for Onitsha harbour peter obi oversaw.
