The presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has described the allegation that he was responsible for the inability of his party and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to forge an alliance ahead of Saturday’s polls as “baseless” and “unfounded”.

Meanwhile, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the presidential candidate of ACN, has insisted that he is still a candidate, following reports that he had stepped down for Buhari.

In a statement signed by Buhari's spokesman, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, the former head of state said it was not true that he constituted a stumbling block to the alliance as was alleged by ACN, but rather, it was the latter's insistence on producing the vice-presidential candidate at this late hour “against the electoral laws” that caused the breakdown of talks.

He explained that he embraced the renewed talks between the two parties in the best interest of millions of Nigerians yearning for change with great enthusiasm.

"The talks however ran into difficulties when the ACN insisted the only condition for agreement was that they must produce the vice-president. By the electoral laws, this was virtually impossible before this election. We suggested that they should let us jointly go into the elections and jointly form the government after our victory. But our friends were not ready to take us on our honour and went to the media,” he said.

While regretting the inability to get the parties to agree to harness their electoral fortunes before Saturday, Buhari said the task at hand is to get rid of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the polls through mass turnout and eternal vigilance from accreditation to the final announcement of results.

He called on millions of his supporters across Nigeria to troop out en masse and vote him in as president.

Buhari is even lucky to have met a dufus like Tinubu, thatss why he's still offering lame defenses. How many people in the universe are daft enough to throw their presidential candidate under the bus to pacify a party that has govt representation that is 10 times smaller?

LOL!

^^^^^^^^^^

Definitely not the man whose only plan for electricity is to probe past leaders.
Definitely not the man who does not understand that privatisation is the way to GO.
defintely not the man who feels North west is all there is in Nigeria.

VOTE GEJ.

And some pro Buhari people will want us to believe that Military Buhari is different from the current Buhari; ACN made required sacrifice to wrest power from PDP; asking for a VP position is even asking for too little in the scheme of things; All that was required was for Buhari to give a press public press statement to that effect in announcing the alliance. Problem Solved, but know either Buhari or his adviser or his VP was not willing to make such concession.

Tell dem jare!
Buhari is not in the least bit smart. Where in the World would he ever get a repeat of the sort of miraculous deal that preserved his presidential dreams in an alliance with a party that has govt representation that is 10 times bigger than CPC's?
That man is strange!

I have no clue what ACN think they are doing? short-sightedness will kill Nigerian politicans. ACN does not have to win the next election to make progress as a party.

If they know what they are doing what they need to do is to concentrate on sweeping the SouthWest at Guber level, expand their base to other parts of the country and position itself as the platform for the LEFT.

You can not win a Presidential election without a base and ACN is far bigger than CPC for them to sacrifice their own candidate and his running mate just so an alliance can be formed with CPC.

CPC does not control any state yet and I don't know that they will win any state tomorrow are Guber level. Not even Katsina.

And yet people are breaking their head to form alliance with unelectable Buhari.

Before the NASS election, Bhuari/bakare believes in their own 'strenght'. They thought that they will outperform ACN, and therefore lay down all the conditions but to their lack of political understanding ACN beat them massively and ACN were magnanimous to offer him to be the President while they gave them VP but Bakare want to be VP, they were going to deceive ACN to get their supporters to vote for CPC for free, and once they are sworn in, that it is.

Nonetheless, even the alliance will still have not beaten GEJ because they will not get 25% of 24 states.  As for Bhuari and IBB,Gusau, Atiku, it is all about the POWER MUST RETURN TO THE NORTH and nothing else.

That would have been nice but God knows, maybe the violent guys would not have accepted defeat in such a situation. If a united opposition loses, there is the tendency that they will outrightly reject the election results and cause unnecessary problems. Also, it would be easier to accuse the government of rigging. With the current situation, it is clear that GEJ will carry the day. The opposition will only have to cry a little and go home afterwards.

Anyone even able to refuse the claim made by the man in response? I would think there are rules against such happening this late in the game . . . less than 72 hours to election day.
