The Demystification Of The North by Nobody: 5:14pm On Apr 19, 2011
The Dan Fodio myth of the Northern Muslim oligarchy in Nigeria was broken not at the Presidential elections but at the PDP presidential primary. It was there the rest of Nigeria saw they North could be beaten if the rest of Nigeria would work together.

The south have now wised up to the formular in which the north defeats the south in elections. In the past, The south would produce 2 strong candidates (usually awolowo and azikiwe) while the north would produce 2, 1 strong and 1 weak. when voting starts the Northe west and North East would vote about 70% for the strong northern candidate. the south west would vote the AWO southern candidate 90%, the South East will vote the azikiwe southern candidate 80%. The beautiful brides now become the South south and the middle belt. in previous elections, these two regions voted with the North thereby handing the initiative to them. This time the South and middle belt spoke with one voice not because of just because of jonathan but more because of Jesus. They used religion as a unifying factor to defeat the north.

We cannot negate the value ACN had in Jonathan's victory, by opting to field a Northern candidate instead of a SW or even SS candidate, they ensured GEJ had a smooth ride back to Aso Rock

The biggest lesson the Southern politicians have learnt is the divide and rule tactics usually employed by Northen politicians. Southerners habve been able to find a few "Judas" in the north that were ready to sacrifice CPC and Buhari in order to please Jonathan.

The riots in the north are not because they northerners felt they were rigged out, its more because in their sub conscious they know they have lost Project Nigeria. If the south play their cards right, it could be for good

cutting out the middle belt from the north has strongly affected the region, i should think.

The most annoying thing about this so called "North" is that they are just few individuals, making decisions for the whole people. I pity people who do not see Jonathans victory as victory for Nigeria.

On the bolded: that is why no matter how devilish OBJ seems, he should get the credit for orchestrating that segregation. He used political appointments to open the eyes of the middle beltans to the fact that they are just being used as pawns. You all remember how the Hausa/Fulani would protest appointment meant for the north but given to the middle beltans as unsatisfactory describing it with statements like "not from the core north".

As the OP rightly hinted, the "core north" may never recover from this because, I can bet that once power is to be returned to a northerner, it will be to a minority in the middle belt with the help of the three southern geo-political zones - SW, SE, SS.

It is indeed a victory for us. The North was reduced to using children to vote.

Now we need an accurate census.

Buhari seems to be the last. IBB and co have now gone into retirement.

Except, they go ahead, more civil war 'heroes' like Danjuma, then they'll get 0% Igbo votes. They can be assured of that.

@bermuda1, You've gotten this analysis right on the spot and dead on target too! I wonder why this topic is not on front page already. Most of the posters have digressed from the main thrust of your analysis.

Behold how the mighty monolithic north has fallen, just like the legendary Goliath. The cat has been let out of the bag - a case of united we stand, divided we fall. The north has been using this divide and rule tactics (especially the religious factor) to a very devastating and conclusive effect to achieve their secret agenda of perpetual rule.

Now they are crying like overfed and pampered babies realizing only too late that the game is finally up. They've gone up a notch higher to reveal their true basic character of killing, stealing and destruction. As a middle belter this is what we have been clamouring all along, that if we can only join forces with the entire South; politically, religiously and economically we can take charge of our various destinies and no so-called "northerner" can ride on our shoulders ever again. This is the very war that Plateau State has been fighting all these years - imagine that in the twinkle of an eye the entire north was engulfed in religious and political crisis.

As you're already aware there's no distinction between religion and politics in Islam - no separation between 'state' and 'religion', they are one and the same thing. Herein lies the crux of the matter - the South and Middle belt are always gullible in  believing the muslims that such a separation exists when as matter of fact it does not. This is what they have been using as a means of control to ensure they rule us forever. To the muslim you can’t have or pursue one without the other, politics means religion and vice-versa. That is why their first target in any attack are Christians and Churches. However, belatedly our own Christian Clergy and politicians will be the first to say this fight has nothing to do with religion.

Mark it, if Nigeria finally separates or divides, guess who will first call for this separation - the North. Even in this mayhem and confusion they unleashed on us, we could hear the distant thunder and call for separation being echoed in their midst - calling for "araba" that is separate now. I might add that this might well be the beginning of the end. The pattern of election has already betrayed itself with a clear delineation and demarcation of the new boundary of two brand new countries in the making or possibly three - that is if the middle belt decides to be on its own too. What a great scenario this can turn out to be. With the entire South having Lagos as its new Capital, Middle belt having Abuja as their new Capital and the North possibly having the half of Kaduna or Kano as their own new Capital. Does this sound like a daydream? I make bold to say NO. With God all things are possible.

I would like to advise the Igbos and other tribes who may not feel secure in the "New North" to start considering relocating to the Plateau as there's plenty of land especially fruitful and vast agricultural land to accommodate everybody. Plateau State will readily assist in this direction. You may not realize it, Plateau is the most friendly and peaceful State to live in regardless of all that has been happening in the recent past, of'course we all now know the cause of our problems.

If we can put our heads together and sink our minor differences and misunderstandings as we have done in this election and unless by special arrangement or agreement, no northern Hausa muslim can rule us in this country again, not ever. We need not separate in war but if it becomes inevitable given the current madness in the north, who are we to say no. The military can eventually sort themselves out in the new arrangement.

Remember, they also desperately tried to enlist sympathy from the armed forces as the last trump card in their arsenal to woo them into taking power. But the military are now the wiser for it, even though there are still some rogue elements within that establishment who will readily dance to their mischievous plans. They jubilated in some of the northern states capitals on the wild rumours that the army has “taken over” power. The so-called “North" will never remain or be the same again. Wise up Southerners and Middle Belters, there is power in UNITY especially the power of religion. Not all muslims sanctions the madness that is going on but the trouble is they must be seen to be toying the majority and Islamic view else they’ll be the worse for it. Imagine the destruction they visited on their own people just because they’re supporting the “wrong” party. That is why you will hardly hear any condemnation coming even from the educated ones. No matter what happens from now onwards, Nigeria will never be the same again in terms of political and religious re-alignments.

Given the choice of unfettered freedom, most muslims will prefer to live in a new Nigeria devoid of all this unnecessary bloodletting and wanton destruction of property in the name of religion – consequently they will opt out of islam completely if not for the death fatwa on apostasy declared by their prophet that, “Whoever changes his (Islamic) religion, kill him.” (Ibn Abbaas – Al-Bukhary No.6922)  Only the brave will survive!

John 10:7-11(KJV)
"7   Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

8   All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

9   I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."

Therefore using the new power at our disposal now and if the Good Lord tarries, barring all unforeseen circumstances like war, natural disaster, etc;
the political power rotation as to who governs Nigeria for the next 30years should appear as follows given the 8year cycle of two tenures:
(I do not mind a reversal to a 5 or 6 years one term tenure to enable other ethnic nationalities to have a go at governance too)

Years: 2011 - 2014: South-South (currently) This is reasonable because the Igbos will be next.

2015 - 2022: South-East (Igbos)

2023 - 2030: Middle-Belt

2031 - 2038: North

2039 - 2046: South-West

After this cycle is complete, we can start all over again, that is, if Nigeria has not already metamorphosed into the 3 countries suggested above.
Re: The Demystification Of The North by Nobody: 4:16pm On Apr 20, 2011
@ alethia

as you can see from becomerich's amended map here, they [bbc] took out a number of smaller tribes and merged them with other ones.

eg egbira were joined with nupe

idoma is nowhere to be found.

jukun were called "jukunoid"

bariba is gone

etc etc.

i'm no map specialist, and neither am i saying becomerich's map is perfect, but the bbc map is clearly off point, imo.

Funny! In fact, very funny!!! Why are we southerners like this for goodness sake?! So, you think you can kill and resurrect zoning anytime you wish I thought we are now voting on credibility not on zoning crap! After GEJ, it will be a credible and most deserving PERSON NOT ZONE that will be our president!!! If the SE produces a credible person, then fine, I will campaign but if not, then NO, if its another SS person that is credible, then that will be our next president!!

Nice write up.

I agree that we have seen the end of what was considered the monolithic north.

I have a few questions :

1. When most people talk about the break up of Nigeria (which I do not support), they usually think the country would break into two (north and South). I find it interesting that you are suggesting three new entities – North, S. West and a third one comprise of the Middle belt , SE and SS. I find it interesting that you are appealing to the SE (which I take to mean including the SS, possibly because of oil?) to join you in the middle belt to form a new country. Question is this: What makes you think that the SS or SE will go with you. They’d rather be on their own.

2. Just as you are canvassing for them to join you, the SE would want to be on their own and probably seek to convince the SS to join them. I am not sure about the SW.

3. Meanwhile the SS will also want to be on their own without any links with the other zones. But then consider the Ijaw people who stretch across the coast of the south from Ondo through Delta , Rivers and Bayesla. What happens to them? Where will they go? Wont’ they presfer to be on their own? Do you think the Edos, Itshekiris Urhobos, Isokos and other such nationalties will go with the south west? I doubt. O you think the Ibibios and Efiks of Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom would not want to be on their own too?

Left to me, I think Nigeria is best left as it is. We only need to work harder at this democratic project. I believe that our size and diversity is actually an asset and not a liability.
Re: The Demystification Of The North by beloveeed: 6:52pm On Apr 20, 2011
Well for me, if nigeria should eventually think of breaking up, it should be in the form of NORTH SOUTH. The south should be roughly in the manner inwhich the election was spread (middle belt down south) and north buhari enclave. then the new state should allow federated kind of government (SE-igbo traders, SS-oil, MB-Foodcrops/solid minerals, ETC ) for like 10years to understand ourselves much better and if after the 1st 10years, another 10years to further understand ourelves and if it still not possible then we further break up.
