Calls for interim government
By Sam Eyoboka & Olayinka Latona
LAGOS — FRESH Democratic Party presidential candidate in last Saturday’s elections, Rev. Chris Okotie, yesterday rejected the result of the presidential election announced during the week by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, alleging that the process was manipulated in a subtle, scientific manner to create an ambience of credibilit

Rev. Okotie, who was said by INEC to have polled a total of 34,331 votes nationwide as against President Goodluck Jonathan’s over 22 million votes, also called for the cancellation of the entire process and the institution of an interim national government to pilot the affairs of the nation until a more credible election is held to elect more committed individuals to lead the nation to the promised land.

Addressing a news conference in Lagos, Okotie said, after a careful review of the election results and the attendant post-election violence in parts of the North, his party came to the conclusion that the Presidential election result “is unacceptable and should not be allowed to stand because it does not reflect the true wishes of the people.”

Okotie, therefore, called for the cancellation of the polls and the formation of an interim government to be put in place to review the entire democratic process and the structures now on ground, to determine the future direction of the nation, in view of what he called the circle of corruption, election rigging and discontent that has characterised the polity in the last 12 years.

Continuing, Okotie who was surrounded by officers of his party at the national secretariat, said: “What took place last Saturday was a well contrived device that has been meticulously and scientifically executed to create an atmosphere of non_violence and a free and fair elections.

“It was important for them (PDP) to do that because that is what they wanted to do; but behind the scene, they did what they wanted to do. The truth of the matter is that the process was manipulated. We disagree with them and we believe that PDP is not the way forward and that is why we are calling for an interim government.”

The lawyer turned gospel preacher who has contested the presidential election two times previous, also faulted the current constitution, which, he said has two versions in circulation, and insisted that only a genuine national reconciliation instituted by a new interim administration composed of people of integrity nation_wide to create the enabling political environment, could move the nation forward.

Okotie further contended that, beyond the elections, leaders of thought throughout the country ought to renegotiate the terms of the Nigerian federation, saying the current structure was not ideal for a nation sprawling with abundant human resources.

He also used the occasion to decry the violence that greeted the declaration of incumbent President and the PDP flag bearer, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as the winner of the 2011 presidential election, urging the perpetrators and their sponsors to tow the path of dialogue because violence is not a viable option to the problems of the country.

Okotie urged Nigerians to be calm and explore due process in seeking redress to any grievances they may have against the outcome of the elections. “We must not continue to allow innocent blood to be shed for whatever reason. Any loss of life is sad, and I send my condolence to families of the bereaved,” he said.

He vowed to continue to fight on, adding that part of his mission is to liberate the country from the PDP.

Someone please tell Chris Okotie to just shut his unserious trap and use his time to attack Chris Oyakhilome or sing or fry his hair or marry another wife or any of those things he's good at,anything but he should leave politics alone. He's failed so many times it's obvious to even his closest fans that God NEVER called him into politics

With the way things are,Jonathans 2nd term has already failed before its start.

My reason is that I foresee PDP trying to force the rigged election results down the throat of Nigerians and it is very likely that Nigerians will resist till 2015.There will be regular occurring of riots, strikes, resistance to policy and frequent breakdown of law and order even in Bayelsa and the entire South.

I also predict the introduction of suicide bombing.

The only possible antidote is if Nigeria suddenly becomes good and GEJ prosecutes all the PDP looters.
