Nice recap. My concern with this aircraft is the AAG's already been used by BH against both our fighter jets, frontal commands, mobile assets, and ground troops.

Ammunition from Libyan sources is available to BH inclusive of our bases that were previously overrun. I hope the Tucano truly gives us the desired tactical advantage otherwise it's like flying an improved Cessna plane.

The reason the lawmakers went there is that they have been putting a lot of pressure on the Nigerian Air Force to deliver. They say that they've approved money for the Air Force to buy the planes, but they haven't seen any planes. Some of them have even been accusing the Air Force of stealing the money. So the Air Force took them there to see things for themselves.
These words are obviously from an informed angle. Once again, kudos. Your posts add value. One day you too should be drafting and implementing policies, your wealth of knowledge should be the compass, ..
If you aren't heading that direction yet but just holding unto the journalism pathway please start considering it now.
Best wishes.

Very expensive but I know the Nigeria gov can afford it

Chances that the US will sell the B2 Spirit to Nigeria... well below 0%.

Nice effort so far by the Buhari's government but let's step up to the F-I6 and other supersonic jets class. Tucanos can easily be shot down by surface to air missiles from BH terrorists

We do need F-16s at some point but it is doubtful we will ever be able to purchase them. What we need are A-10 Warthog aircraft... absolute beasts as close-air support for ground troops. Far superior to the Super Tucano.

Whoever advised the airforce to get tucanos is an idiot.

They are used when you have completely secured the airspace.

And that is not something we can guarantee in the North East.

We should have used that money to get few more supersonic jets, preferably Russian.

$1b for subsonic luxuries.
Crazy.

You ain't getting the A-10.

The Americans don't put much stock in the tucanos, possibly why they agreed to sell it to us.

At the very least, if we have gotten the SU-25 frogfoot, it would have been a more competent plane and a better use of money.

. My take is that this journey is a waste of scarce resources. What? They travelled to US to go inspect the manufacturing process. I know those guys doing the craft for us will be laughing like mad at us. It's not necessary at all. It's our air Force personnel that should go there and monitor progress of work because they know the technicalities involved and what they need and have to get conversant with it. NASS work is just to see that pricing is right and job was delivered as at quoted. This is waste of resources on needless sight seeing.

Even if there is a -500% chance of them selling to us, we can't even afford it.

One B-2 spirit goes for over 2 billion dollars.

I don't even think of their closest allies can afford it.

Too bad Shekau didn't live long enough to see these 1945 aircrafts in operation in the North east, he had already perfected plans to shoot them down like a seagull flying across a firing range.

Rest easy Shakau the cat with nine lives and a fierce soldier of Islam.....your kinds shall never be seen in this lifetime but be consoled that your 7 virgins awaits you in the afterlife.

Take $1b to Russia for the SU-25, and you would get a much better deal.

And the SU-25 is better than the tucanos for me.

True.

American planes are notoriously expensive to maintain.

What you said is exactly what was happening before. It was usually just 1 or 2 Air Force guys that went to inspect the work, but National Assembly members started complaining that they approved a lot of money for the planes and they haven't seen any planes, no planes have been delivered, so the Air Force took them to the factory to see that the money hasn't been stolen.

Have they paid on the contract? Is the delivery date agreed? Do they have any iota of technical knowledge of how the fighter Jet is manufactured?

Let them be truthful and Just tell us they went sightseeing with a view to collecting estacode..SMH.
