In Leicester Kante played in a four -man midfield where Drinkwater was the holding midfielder while Kante was the box to box midfielder, in Chelsea, currently Tuchel plays a 352 with Jorginho playing as the deep playing midfielder or holding midfielder while Kante plays the box to box midfielder.

Please note that they have different style of play but performs the same role for their team, which is mainly to prevent opponent attacks, protect their team's defensive line, win back possession and try to build possession from the back.

How ever holding midfielders can perform each of this role better than one another.
For example busquet is the best when it comes to building possession from the back line, while kante is better than busquet when it comes to ball recovery and winning back possession in dangerous area.


Xabi Alonso and Javier macherano during their days have different playing styles, but both of them played as holding midfielder while at Anfield.

Any body who can't recognize Kante's currently role at Chelsea as a holding midfielder needs to improve his or her knowledge and understanding of player roles in football.
