But there was a constitution before this one. If the constitution preceding this took this stance will there have been room to introduce the 1999 constitution?

I wish another protest erupts that'll involve ransacking and unbundling the entire National assembly complex. Those useless lawmakers are not ready to effect any change since they are also feeding fat on the national cake.

I didn't understand the twist or may be I did. Oga, disregard, in fact, throw 1999 constitution into thrash can and draft something new entirely. What is too hard to do there? What is today most important in the country? Violating a section of the rubbish 1999 constitution or restoring peace and order in the country? Like I said, may be I didn't understand the news well.
Ignorance of the law, you don’t have an idea of what you are talking about, or the Nigerian Constitution is now the new alibi for your failed existence?

Re: We Can’t Give You A New Constitution, Senate Tells Nigerians by onuman: 10:37pm On Jun 03, 2021
Yes. The senate can’t give a new constitution.

And the National Assembly can’t amend the existing constitution which was not wiles by Nigerians, was not subjected to a referendum.

Nigeria needs a new constitution from a Constitutional Conference with members drawn from the east, west and north regions.

And this man supposedly went to primary school? Went to secondary school? Went to university? Plus got to the Nigerian senate with this type of thinking? I am sorry but It is for the very reason that we have such people in leadership position in Africa that we are in this condition.

Quack brained people incapable of thinking outside the box!!

If there's a clause somewhere in the constitution that prevents us from getting a new constitution which is the popular opinion today among Nigerians, it means that the constitution in and of itself is an obstacle to our evolution as a nation. So, if you really represent the interest of Nigerians, you should be putting all your effort to change that section 9 first in order to empower you to give Nigerians a new construction. If popular opinion wants a new constitution; why should a clause in the constitution stop us? Isn't this self evidence that something is wrong with the 1999 constitution?

Because Nigerians are not United against their so called elites and useless political terrorist governors/politicans holding everyone hostage in our own land.

Does power really belongs to the masses/taxpayers.

These people are starting to backtrack on this constitutional thing to me. Why? Well I think the comment by Buhari of "speaking language Nigerians will understand" is starting to ring bells among political bigwigs by thinking they can use brute force to control people instead of the restructuring. We are about to be scammed again. Definitely, Fulani's are not happy with the ongoing restructuring talk.

Do you know what a constitution is?

It's only ill informed people that'll clamour for an entirely new constitution.

We are stuck with this 1999 Constitution. The best option is to gradually amend it till the ugly side of it is entirely faced out.

Drafting a new constitution will create a period of vacuum for the time being. So, how do we operate during that vacuum?

You continue with the present one until the new one is ready and then throw the old one to a raging inferno, We are in democracy and democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people, and not the government of the elites, by the politicians and for their children. Nigeria is no one's property, people must be represented and fully involved in the constitution that governs them and it must be made compulsory to all the Nigeria educational institutions from primary to tertialy schools. If you idiots continue to subjugate the masses, endsars will be a child's play to the kind of revolution that will engulf this country very soon. You idiots have woken up the youth that have been minding their business for long with your wicked policies. We are watching, don't give us new constitution and watch that country burn to ground zero. People are angry and are willing to die now, unlike the past when no one was willing to die

They should amend the Section 9 to allow for a new constitution and begin the process of doing so. What’s the obstacle towards that? The only obstacle is the devil called “political will”.
