There are indications that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), may have penciled down Senator Bode Olajumoke, and former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Agagu, for the post of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
This new arrangement was occasioned by the dismal performance of the PDP in the south west. The calculation was that if the PDP had won the National Assembly elections on the zone, the post of the Senate President would have gone there. The three tipped were Senators Iyabo Obasanjo, GbengaOgunniya and IyiolaOmisore.

Ogunniya who had been in the senate since 1999, was seen as a possible considering his closeness to money man and oil mogul , Femi Otedola. However, Iyabo was also looking good considering her father’s doggedness.
The source told Pointblanknews.com “ Ogunniya , Iyabo and Omisore battle would have been fierce considering the fact that Ogunniya had been there since 1992, and he would have had unlimited cash from his pal, Otedola who would not mind having a close ally as Senate President, dont forget Omisore has good cash and has been there as well”
Pointblanknews.com also learnt that the south west may also jostle for the chairmanship of the party, while the south east is set to produce the speaker, and the north central, senate president.
Our source hinted that Olajumoke, a retired permanent secretary in the ministry of defense, is favored.He was also the governorship candidate for the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), in Ondo state, and went to the senate in 2003, and returned in 2007.
Agagu was secretary to the Ondo State Government, deputy governor to a military administrator between 1992 and 1993, minister of aviation and Ondo State Governor until his mandate was overturned at the Court of Appeal in favor of OlusegunMimiko of the Labor Party(LP).

Former President OlusegunObasanjo is pushing for Jubril Martins Kuye, former Osun governor, OlagusonyeOyinlola, and his Oyo counterpart, Bayo Alao Akala.
Chief whip, EmekaIhedioha, current chief whip is front runner for the post of speaker, even though the south west is also interested in the seat. The ambition of the south west is far fetched because most of their candidates lost .
Said our source” the south east would prefer the speaker and dump the deputy senate president position because the zone delivered almost a hundred per cent. The south west is pushing to retain the position but their dismal performance may make it difficult. So the only options are SGF and chairman.” |

Top party stalwarts and business moguls have taken over every available space in hotels, both in Obudu Ranch Resort and Calabar metropolis in a bid to lobby for positions in the new cabinet being put together by President Goodluck Jonathan.The new cabinet would be announced within one week of the president taking his oath of office on May, 29. A top security source attached to the president’s entourage currently holidaying in the Obudu Ranch Resort, Cross River State, told LEADERSHIP in a telephone interview that the president hardly sleeps for six hours in a day since he moved Aso Rock to the rocky countryside of Cross River State, Obudu.
The source said apart from serving ministers who feared they might lose out in the new dispensation, party godfathers are not leaving anything to chance as they have continued to besiege “The president with names of their candidates for ministerial and special advisers’ job. One source said that booking appointments with the president has become something of a goldmine.
LEADERSHIP gathered that no visitor whose name is not on the president’s appointment list is allowed beyond the foot of the Obudu Mountain. One source lamented that the president’s presence has shut down commercial activities at the ranch.
However, the president has an exclusive resort fashioned after Camp David in the U.S. The resort is about two kilometres from the main hotel where commercial activities are embarked upon.
LEADERSHIP further gathered that prominent on the list of Jonathan’s visitors were former governors who were defeated in the last election or those who did not get PDP ticket to contest the election. It was also gathered that Dora Akuyili rode on the back of Dame Jonathan (president’s wife) to see him, apparently to seek another ministerial appointment in the new dispensation.
A former minister of Labour and productivity las also spotted in Calabar trying to bargain to get President Jonathan’s attention for a special assistant job. The source added that Iyiola Omisore, Ayo Fayose, Muhammed Liman, Abdullazak Mango, Umar Musa, Andy Uba, among others, have already been lined up to see President Jonathan apparently on matters bordering on appointments in the new dispensation.
Apart from a top frontliner for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which LEADERSHIP source refused to name, a popular woman politician, Florence Ita-Giwa, is said to have warmed her way into the heart of the first lady, a posture that would almost certainly give her the president’s ear.
The president is on a seven-day working holiday in the mountain resort of Obudu ranch, Cross River State.

It would be shameful indeed. Let's all assume that this is just an unconfirmed rumor. Nigeria is supposed to be expecting fresh air. |
