The problem is not subsidy, you don't punish the people for the few corrupt. They should put up their thinking cap and block corrupt elements.

What's stopping FG from building local refineries that would save us money for oil importation which are even always exaggerated?

What's stopping FG from sealing the loopholes in the diverted oil they have been paying subsidy for?

With those two, we can stop paying subsidy as the petrol, gas and all can be refined locally

We in d south south and host community are nt happy wit 3% for host community instead of 10% as proposed by d initiators of bill. Even as d south south reps insist on 5%,bt due to number difference and northern cabal destory our interest

May be they did that because you have enough money in hundreds of billions going to the host communities from

1. Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs
2. Niger Delta dev com.
3. Monthly 13% derivation
4.. Etc and etc

The last time I read was when over #88billion was stolen in NNDC

The problem with No. 5 is that the bill failed to state clearly the exact percentage th oil operators will contribute to the Trust Fund. Is it deliberate that this was left out to cheat on the host communities or is it left vague to create a window for politicians and techocrats in government to manipulate the figure to benefit themselves? By this PIB, the host communities do not know what persentage of oil royalty will be theirs.

But definitely the cost and logistics of taking it abroad to refine and bringing it back to the country for final consumption would have been eliminated thereby reducing lots of added costs that made it expensive in the first place, also....If crude is being sold at $70, there are still over 20 other products that are being generated from crude not only petrol, so all that properly factored in will def not make the product too expensive

Yes I understand what you mean, but my point is that those are not overly significant. Maybe those have a N30-50 impact. The main cost drivers are price of crude and cost of refinery operations, which will be fairly same everywhere. Maybe Dangote refinery operations cost may be a bit cheaper cos the refinery is new and modern and staff will be paid less than foreign counterparts. Then again, operating in Nigeria has added costs in other areas that abroad doesn't have. As for Shipping, its fairly cheap these days.

Exactly. There is already 3% Nddc levy on the budget of oil companies. Across the industry this will be close to $400mln per year. And now 3% of opex has been added again. That's already 6% that should be for communities.

Asides this, the oil companies do GMoU projects where they give money to the communities and they decide what project they want to execute by themselves, but as usual those 'representing' the communities have other ideas grin.

SAME will likely happen to this host community 3%. First communities will argue amongst themselves about who is host or not, and which will become communal clashes and attacks. Just wait and see. Nigerians loose all sense of civility when moneybis concerned.

The pib gives additional 10% revenue to the Niger Delta...that's the sole reason the majority members of the NASS,the ever parasitic north, refused to pass the bill

The buhari's regime is insisting on 2.5%.

Subsidy is the problem. It doesn't allow resources to be efficiently utilised.

What other social support are Nigerians receiving from the government?
Subsidy has nothing to do with efficient utilisation of resources. Moreover which resources are we talking about here?

Can social handouts be the problem? Should USA have removed unemployment benefits because some people are exploiting it.

How can operators and Industry complain of multi regulation and yet the DPR is split into two Agencies?

It calls to question the sanity of the people who brought up the idea of 2 regulatory agencies. This issue of 2 regulatory agencies was never in the initial PIB or the initial PIGB.

It's his personal commitment to see it pass into law. He said it many times that petroleum industry need new regulations and host communities need new ways to benefit from oil money. This effort is more of Executives than Legislators, thanks to Sylva!

Other countries are not bankrupting themselves to do subsidy the way we are!? And few countries are as Corrupt as we are! Our subsidy is N1trln yet FG revenue is N5trln! Does that make sense? Texas state budget is more than FG, the 36 states and all local govt combined and you want to compare social security in US with subsidy in Nigeria!?
