I don't think this would work as we are not yet mature for something like this, a case in point is the current president that hates criticism, imagine if there is no immunity for governors he would have probably ordered the arrest of any governor that dares criticise him....

Even when there was immunity for them, how many of them has the effrontery to dare the President.?

Even if it's passed
We have a weak judiciary
And smart Senior advocate of nonsense that will look for legal loopholes to delay the case and also the option to decamp to avoid going to jail

Personally I do not support the removal of immunity from the president, vp, Governor and deputy.

Just imagine what Saraki went through as Senate President because he hadn’t immunity.

Trust opposition politicians to keep dragging sitting presidents and governors to court on the flimsiest of excuses which would be a whole lot of distraction and won’t let him or her concentrate and work.

The framers of our constitution weren’t stupid when they put it.

Must we argue everything?
having the immunity has been abused more than not having it, Nigerian leaders are not known to be morally upright, anything that tends to reduce their power is a welcome development for the masses, for a nation with such amount of political lawlessness and abuse of power you think giving this set of leaders more immunity will benefit the masses?

Don't be surprised that the sponsor of that bill might be doing it to earn political scores that will lead him to the promise land. My opinion though

you had a good point but the truth is the immunity clause is the main reason we are where we are today.

you don't give excess power to a man he will abuse it let alone in Africa. here in Africa an ordinary man on the street abuse the little right granted them by nature.

the immunity clause has so made our leaders exercise to much power, become erratic and irrational. it's on heard off you make a man non challengeable! they ain't God or god's.

this will better make them accountable, conscious and prudent. immunity has given the sense of non accountability to no one.

They should not make things difficult and worst in this country. We have a lot serious issues and problems that needs to take care off. Sometimes i feel bad when the compare Nigeria to countries like US and Uk. Beside they only do that we that want something that will benefit their selfish interest. U are comparing a country that doesn't even have steady light to a poverty capital country. What a pity

On August 6, 1945 during World War II, an atomic bomb was dropped on the town of Hiroshima, Japan. 140,000 people were killed or injured. There was a home eight blocks (about 1 kilometer) from where the A-Bomb went off . This home had a church attached to it which was completely destroyed, but the home survived, and so did the eight German Jesuit missionaries who prayed the rosary in that house faithfully every day. These men were missionaries to the Japanese people, they were non-military, but because Germany and Japan were allies during WWII they were permitted to live and minister within Japan during the war.

Not only did they all survive with (at most) relatively minor injuries, but they all lived well past that awful day with no radiation sickness, no loss of hearing, or any other visible long term defects or maladies. Naturally, they were interviewed and examined numerous times (Fr. Schiffer, a survivor, said over 200 times) by scientists and health care people about their remarkable experience and they say "we believe that we survived because we were living the message of Fatima. We lived and prayed the rosary daily in that home."

It’s a good thing but the timing and intention of doing it, is wrong. They want to remove the immunity so that they(northerners) can use EFCC to pressurize governors that are not northerners, to bow to their wishes. For example, if you don’t support Open grazing or a northern president in 2023, EFCC will be your nightmare.

They will remove a seating governor all in the name of corruption charges and place their candidate in that position.

This is a welcome development after 2023 election.

Immunity is a scam. Buhari wouldn't have raided igboho's house like armed robbers in the middle of the night if there was no immunity clause, if there is something an African leader deserves, it is not immunity, knowing how they are prone to abuse the power of their office.

Let's see if the bill can see the light of the day.

White people are far more civilized than Africans, reason why they adopt immunity clause to protect their president from political witch-hunting by the opposition party. But here, it is the president that abuses the power of his office.

Let's see if the bill can see the light of the day.

It is a lie, there is also a clause that will protect the president against an obvious political witch-hunting by the opposition party, that is why we need true separation of powers where the judiciary and legislature are truly independent. The judges know which cases to dismiss if they are based on the flimsiest of excuse, also the so called law can be reconfigured in such a way that the opposition party can be sued if they are just going about witch-hunting the president for lack of immunity. Such system is better than today's total power bestowed on the president which makes him untouchable even in the face of flagrant abuse of office like Buhari is doing.

They were stupid for putting it there and they lack foresight. If they do not lack foresight instead of giving total immunity they would make provisions that would prevent opposition that has flimsy excuses from making a false claim.

That would be better than giving a total immunity which would eventually turn the sitting govt present or past to a tyrant.
