Please, take note of the point I made earlier that users should be able to remove some followers or block them.


I have more suggestions sir:

1. An investigation should be carried out to see how possible mods ban users they dont agree with under disguise of spam bot. Mods should never be able to do it. Many people can testify to this. They activate spam bot and pretend they dont know about it.

2. Auto detection and deletion of porn, and auto ban of posters especially on front page news.

3. Multiple NL accounts should be discouraged. A way out is to introduce accounts verification.

4. Auto deletion of advertising posts or solicitation of fund of non verified accounts. This will curb scammers. They always have multiple accounts, but they will never want to use their verified accounts. Anyone who transact business with unverified accounts is at higher risk of being scammed. Not a guarantee to assure all that fraud will be reduced to zero, but it will go a long way.

Sir, dont derail this thread. Let's just work together. I criticize them and I dont mind slamming them. But when they want to listen to us, the same energy I use to slam is how I will uplift them. This is my point. Its the passion I have for Nigeria. For the record, I never denied of slamming them.

The goal here is bigger than you and me.

For example, I noticed something...I always try to check things. I'm very sensitive. So, there is something NL has implented which many may not observe cos it backend. And I told someone today that I am already seeing changes. I dont know if it was done before this thread or after. But I realised that those who grab space on the front page are getting the heat. How? I realised that when you modify a comment on front page, that modification drops your comment. So, people typing single letters and using them to hold space and then for them to read other comments before writing theirs cannot do it again without getting dropped. This means that you write your comment once on the front page if you want to claim the position you are. This is good. I never thought of this...but that a good one.

So, let's go on. Leave it as it is. I hope we are good.

No matter how "whacked" the site looks, but good contents are pushed to front page excellently, more numbers of matured guys will come on board. And this will be good for you of younger generation. Cos you can win the heart of potential sponsors for your projects. If you are just all young here, it's only skills you will acquire. You need to entice older people who are already financially stable to this platform.

Do you need to hack a particular site to understand how groups of people behave? This is why we always say that just being a tech person cannot get the job done. The skill of being a tech entrepreneur (or start up) is more than just tech. Business tools are needed to get some jobs started, and then, you move ahead with tech. Must I hack? Anyone who has managed people and has studied demographics relating to this issue definitely can relate to what I wrote.

Oga, the job of a driver is to pick the key of the car and drive the damn car. But must a driver pick the key to drive cars before cars move along the streets these days? Once upon a time, the job of the warehouse manager is to look around and check manually which items should be moved to front door based on some internal decisions made, but these days, things are done just like that by pressing buttons. So, must the mods always go round threads searching for what arent missing before good contents find themselves on the front page? I guess you arent knowledgeable in these things.

The question is: what makes a news worth front page? If you can define such, then you can find a way to search for such without doing much task. And can even move such effortlessly.

I am asking people to come up with solutions on how to do such so NL may think about it and perhaps implement these things.

Well depending on the topic or board , NL can be set to automatically search for specific and relevant keywords .

Perhaps there may be, but the way forum works is different from how social media works with each user having control over contents displayed.

Social related features suggestions put forward here are the reason forums are becoming extremely fast unpopular all over the world, and they are the reasons it is unnecessary for anyone to go into it newly.

Very good feature in any online community you have mentioned here. If there is a way to implement it here, hmmm, it will be so nice.

In addition to all being said , it would be nice to be able to see who is following a particular thread and how many people are following the thread. Also I think the FB(following boards) link should be removed , I don't see its practical usage , I mean who wants to follow a whole board ?

I agree with you. I appreciate the role nairaland has played over the years. I have learnt many things and I have also shared my knowledge too. Nigeria actually need other forums to compliment nairaland not necessarily to compete with it. Some other countries have forums that are very active near hundreds in number and there is no bad competition.

The problem is when people build things to compete so someone might build what look or performs as a clone of nairaland.

I will like you to check https://deyfind.com which has a different niche and ideology. It is very new and when you check the functionality of the entire site even though there are no contents yet, you will see that it aims to solve another problem. It was built to help people quickly find any product, service, information, job, in fact anything. Few similarities or overlap are still okay in my view.

Granted, nl needs to upgrade but the way we are taking it here, it's almost looking like 'bad belle' or envy for Seun/nl.

I suggest that members that can implement this much talked about upgrading, should look for how to approach Seun in a more business like manner and discuss with him.

Alternatively, somebody should give us a better alternative to nl and let's see how it goes.

The truth is that nl has no competitor in this country, so nl is king for now.
No king, except God, reigns forever.
So it won't be something new if tomorrow nl looses it's present market value.
