OlowoTee:

lol

but why is it that you guys like beans alot. In school then, a guy can go for Beans in the morning, noon and probably night. huh, i do wonder why?

na lie! grin beans was the scarcest commodity in school then, the easiest thing to prepare was rice with tinned tomatoes and dry pepper. add salt to taste and food is ready - maximum 30mins cooking time!

huh! Beans? Scarcest Commodity, I wondered which year that was.
Beans has been a suplus commodity from God knows when and it's one of the cheapest proteineous food in Naija. lipsrsealed
The only time i could remember it was unavailable was when there was this rumour that it kills and that people shouldn't partronise it, grin grin

tinned tomatoes + dry pepper + salt.

how horrible !! Oh how easy. grin grin

i meant in campus dorm rooms. How many guys bring beans to school? its either rice and/or garri.
And the tinned tomatoes, salt and dry pepper thingy - how dare you call it horrible? grin some of us lived on that for months! cheesy
Re: The First Time You Cooked? by Nobody: 5:02pm On Aug 14, 2007
Oops sorry for calling it horrible.

Maybe a fewer percentage fed on Rice + Tinned Tomato + Dry Peper + Salt. Cos most guys i've ever come across are lovers of BEANS  grin
Re: The First Time You Cooked? by Allta(m): 5:24pm On Aug 14, 2007
In those days, "Concortions" cook faster to Beans, so most guys will prefer sharp-sharp cookery in the hostels. But it's my specials, so I cook it especially when i've got "August Visitors".

But going to restaurant, I think we go for Bread and Beans simply because it's more filling and carry us through large chunk of the day. Remember those times when you finish a plate of rice and then before you reach outside, it's already digested. But that's not true for classic BB, Amala, Fufu, Eba etc.

These are my own opinion, yours might be of slightly different view.

Peace Out!

@ TOPIC

I remembered the first time I cooked, My Grandma was visiting and she was hungry.
I decided to boil some spaghetti for her but unfortunately she hasn't seen spaghetti in her life
and she thought i was cooking worms and she started screaming at me, like "what kind of useless child are you". "so now you eat worms and you want me to eat this rubbish". shocked she gave me a nasty slap angry
but parents explained to her later grin
Re: The First Time You Cooked? by iice(f): 9:46pm On Aug 14, 2007
Bwahahahahaha. . .funny story grin
Re: The First Time You Cooked? by Nobody: 9:57pm On Aug 14, 2007
Method: Okay, the first time I cooked, it wasn't really bad. It was me and my brother actually. We were making spaghetti. We let the salted water boil (or do you salt it after boiling)? Anyway, trust me, we didn't get the salting wrong. Then we dumped the pile of spaghetti inside the pot, not bothering to spread it.

Result: All the spaghetti stuck together. It wasn't really bad actually, only needed a little spoon separation.

Re: The First Time You Cooked? by rossy4life(f): 10:54pm On Aug 14, 2007
I don't like remembering it cos, it reminds me of how vengeful I am. There is this friend of my mum, I dislike her with passion, she came to our house and my mum offered to cook Amala to entertain her. My mum's friend said: you are spoiling your daughter, she can't cook at her age. so my mum asked me to prepare the amala. After, I tried my best to prepare it as well as I could, my mum's friend was still complaining about some lumps in the Amala. I was furious, went back to prepare the thing again, but I made sure I sprinkled loads salt on her portion of Amala. Every yoruba should know that amala and salt are good enemies. b4 she could even start eating it, the thing had turned into water.

@rossy4life. chei, u wicked o! grin but then again, it is a known fact that u should never mess with the person that cooks ur food or serves u. anytime we had visitors at home that i ididnt like, the minute they yarned any rubbish, i always knew where to catch them. when it was time to cook food and serve them, i did nasty things to their food. its too grapic to mention here sha.  tongue anyone that has worked in a restaurant knows what im talking about. when u get a crazy customer that gets on ur nerves, u know say their food is going to suffer the consequences. buhahahahha! i know its wicked, but people should be respectful of others. grin just a lesson.

I'm sure wherever you are, you can buy one of those automatic rice cookers, that way, even if you forget, the cooker switches off once there is no water there again. You can use these type of cookers to cook nearly anything now , so there you go

Peace Out!

Re: The First Time You Cooked? by Nobody: 2:32pm On Aug 15, 2007
Rice cookers are incredible.
I have 2.
a big one and a small one.
They are a must have for anybody who burns rice.

For stew,I hang around the kitchen cleaning until the tomato has dried then I add water and my meat stock then turn it down on low and leave it there for hours.
The other thing I burn frequently is moi moi.
someone needs to come up with a moi moi cooker with a timer.
I wonder if moi moi will do well in a pressure cooker with timer,I've never tried it.

Omoge,I hear the new one is cooking jollof rice in the oven, have you tried it,?give me the tips or can someone who has tried it help me out,I'll like to try it.
I hear it's the best
Re: The First Time You Cooked? by soulpatrol(f): 2:44pm On Aug 15, 2007
@kobe. hmm there u go running ur sharp mouth again instead make u gimme advice like these nice folks grin LOL

@Allta. bless ur heart jare, i've used a rice cooker before but i've just never gotten around to buying one for myself. those things really are a wonder. maybe because i'm not too excited about cooking though. my mum is always having a fit about that. she can't believe why any woman shouldn't have all those cooking utensils in the kitchen tongue guess she's so old skool.
but i will eventually get a cooker, deep fryer, wok and all that for myself. i'm tired of my peeps dissing me cheesy
Re: The First Time You Cooked? by omoge(f): 3:12pm On Aug 15, 2007
soul, hahaha  grin

for me, i got everything i needed once i moved into the college housing. even though my roomies all agreed i can use their stuffs, i went shopping for everything a girl needed in the kitchen. Because i always make my meals, i bought a set of pots and a cooker. one of the pots was so huge lol my roommates were laughing. i told them it's for stew because i don't want the alarm going off from anything pouring out. i love cooking my live crabs in it too because they can't jump out  grin some i don't really use but it is good to have them.
so Soul, your mom is right my sister. good you plan to get them.

Babyosisi, really? i haven't heard about that o. i still use my huge pot for Jollof rice. if i come across it, i will definitely buy it. I like ratting in the stores for latest but haven't come across the J rice cooker yet.

no, I don't mean jollof rice cooker.
I mean mixing up the jollof rice and baking it in a regular oven.
Nigerian ladies have gone hay wire with jollof o
