Abia state is now offilially the least revenue generating state in the South. Abia is now ranking with Northern states

what could be the issue.
1. Sit at home and disruption of business ecosystem
2. lack of capacity of the present Government
3. Hangover from military and police siege leading to relocation of businesses
4. Corruption by the present Abia Regime and ineptitude to evolve to a digital state

Please lets discuss

twice Abia came top 4 in attracting FDI in the last 4 years ,did you open any thread to discuss the issue?- no

But you hurriedly rushed to misrepresent facts not minding that Abia isn't the lowest igr generating state in the South (from your own evidence).

The government of Abia granted tax waivers (infrastructure tax and others collected by state government)to companies in the state to attract new companies and help old ones weather the covid effect.

you can't tell me that a state having PZ, starline, valumbra, NB, 7-up, glass force, levantis, and hundreds of other industries including banks and gas pipelines can't raise igr if the tax the hell out of them ( reason why unilever left Abia over 10 years ago and NB too)

Don't mind the loser. Jealousy, envy and bitterness has clouded his perception

You have always tried to divide ndigbo with your prejudice.

Abia is better than MOST Nigerian states INCLUDING yours.... Let that sink in

Ignore the guy.

Look at the table.

Abia has grand total of 7.5billion IGR while Ekiti has 6.5billion but he chose to close his eyes on Ekiti and spew trash about Abia.

For Abia State to be in same league with Ekiti and generating less than Ebonyi is actually scandalous.

If Abia State potentials are optimized, it should be earning among the highest IGR in Nigeria considering the potentials in the state. However, it is not only Abia State that has defied logic in this IGR issue, I think Kano is equally doing terribly in that aspect, they're actually the worst because with all the federal government allocations, trade and commerce, industries and bloated population, that state should be in the first 5 states in IGR generation.

The reason why Abia State is at that embarrassing position is because of poor governance. There is almost non existent infrastructure like good roads and ease of doing business which is a disincentive to tax payment. If you own a business in the city and the road leading to your factory is impassable causing you losses in revenue you will never want to pay tax.

Nothing really concerns me with Kano...

However, what you said about Abia is true.

Abia has the potentials to be at par with Anambra in terms of IGR grossing but lack of good leadership since 1999 is why the state keeps regressing.

No roads, no infrastructure to attract businesses.

It’s terrible

Anyone follow this thing argue not serious sense is not really common in fact in your own case the same guy was calling federal government to stop giving lagos monthly allocation in the name of envy .federal government can stop it but in one condition that special autonomy must be granted and federal government must stop collecting tax in lagos.

An average civil servant's salary in a month in Lagos State is less than one or two weeks profit of Aba trader in the same socio-educational circle - Fact.

Don't be surprise, the said civil servant requests for assistance from his brother trader.

Do you know that an average barrow pusher makes ten thousand naira and above in any of numerous Aba markets and he doesn't pay tax to the government?

Dotian argument is the usual hogwash that dosent hold much value when you subject it to superior logic.

When they mention taxes, you people mention markets complexes, do you think market complexes is what gives states the high revenues?

Do you know that what one single company pay in taxes is bigger than what the whole market in Aba might pay? Let’s take Dangote refinery for example, when that refinery gets completed, the taxes it will pay to Lagos alone will dwarf a lot of other paid from most markets across Lagos and etc.

You can’t base a state glory on buying and selling markets alone (especially things you don’t produce yourself), you need industries, companies, attract businesses that will employ people which will inturn increase prosperity for your people.

Mind you most state cannot tax market efficiently and not only in Abia. In Nigeria, the northern states are even the actual states that don’t tax their non formal sector and not SE. If we are to apply dotian argument, then we will say the reason why the North have such low figure is that they don’t tax their citizens so they might actually be the richest states in Nigeria.

Problem with you is that in matters like this, especially when the South East is involved, you always start off from the pettiest of angles. Crude hate starts to blind you.. Base vituperations all over.. Your last paragraph is a mangled piece of nonsense full of rampaging ignorance. I gave you two basic examples of commercially viable eastern cities in Onitsha and Aba, an that was intentional because those two cities are conomically active and can quite easily jack up their revenue base by juggling their tax policies. Don't take my words for it, contact the CBN for stats on daily financial transactions in these places..

You are now coming to use all northern States as examples? Apart from Kano and Kaduna, can you point to any core northern town that is so flamboyantly active in commerce as is Aba and Onitsha? Why compare apples and oranges? What actually is your sterile point? That Aba is no more Aba or that Onitsha is the same as Ogbomosho? I know these area very well and like a certain poster here said, governments are not emphatic in terms of tax collection because of the fact that basic infastructure in these areas have collapsed. An industrialist sells his land to start an industry, paves the road to his factory, uses his own power generating sets and provides his water. Only for a grumpy, fat revenue collector to appear at the gate for his monthly tax? For what?

I think your problem here is cultural! Sorry to say this but it's obvious! You just can't wrap your tribal head around the fact that a government cant forces businesses to pay taxes because of the fear of revolt or because the government knows how much the businesses put in to develop these towns.. Go to Onitsha as we speak and count the number of 5 storey buildings being constructed by these "traders" you whimsically villify here. . They're ploughing back their cash to build houses. , provide water for these houses and help with local security and all that. If they are so socially responsible to the extent of doing government duties, why your desperation to shake them down by hobbling their business with greater taxes?

Or is it Because as a loyal serf, you pay to your oppressors in your own land without questions?

Boy, you are the only set of people that believe your own nonsense lies, the rest of Nigeria have left you guys behind.

SE is the lowest in IGR, VAT, GDP, Contrubution to the center in the south. All these data are from different sources and they can’t be lying at the same time.

Boy again, market and 2by2 shops are not what increase states revenue especially in a country like Nigeria where we don’t usually tax our market people. Check those IGR metrics, Benue/Taraba/Nasarawa/Kwara collected just 0-1% of their taxes from markets and that is categorized under “Other Taxes”. That practically meant they are not taxing their market people so spare me the hogwash of the SE don’t tax market nonsense. Nearly all states don’t tax market enough. That’s why the formal sector is usually the determinant of real taxes. Even in USA, self assessment by self-owned businesses also lie, they usually commit tax fraud which was why the formal sector will always bring forth the best tax. So stop crying every time and disturbing sane mind. If you own a small business in the USA, you will understand what I’m saying.

I’ve told you PAYE constitute the largest percentage of tax revenue from all states and they are taxes removed from source in the formal sector. Most of the states make their money from PAYE and the SE not having industries lag behind in this, whose fault is that? Stop crying and finding excuses, agree that your states are economically poor. Stop all this propaganda because it’s ridiculing the Ibos.

Again, 2by2 market is not what make revenue which explain why I have an example that what one big company alone contribute to taxes might be bigger than what your whole market contributes.

Investors are running away from the SE, it’s a zone bedeviled by IPOB terrorists and those are the people that truly pay taxes of importance and not the #100 daily the local government collect from your Aba market abi na Ochanja.

Lastly, the reason why you Ibos have this mass delusion about your region is that your well-to-do people are domiciled outside your states and they pay taxes to those states. So an Ibo man with a business in Lagos will pay taxes in Lagos and then go and build his house in the SE and you dotian will come here using that as an argument for your imaginary SE taxes explanation.

Go now and search all bodies that releases economic figures, whether national or international. All of them agree that the SE is the least viable region in the South. QED.

Lengthy piece of trash.....

a) SE isnt the least developed region from ANY statistics whatsoever

b) 2 by 2s can also be huge revenue earners in terms of MSMEs

c) There are also well to do igbos in the SE, infact, it is the densest region in Nigeria.
