and how many Germans do you think will be imported into Nigeria for the job? With our shitty economy and infrastructure? How many Germans wud gladly wish to work here? A country will not avail you the opportunity to develop you and you still give them unfavourable terms. Wether local content or not, the Germans cannot provide more than 10% labour force needed for this job.

Moreover, it's foolhardy for anyone to call another ignorant for having a contrary and divergent opinion from their own. As rational beings, our opinions should at certain point be divergent too.

Similar project was initiated in Egypt and today Egypt is better of. Why is ours always different? With all our local content in investment right from the Obasanjo's administration of 76 aimed at encouraging local content, what have we achieved as a nation today? Whr we dey?

Everything Nigeria we just introduce bureaucratic bottlenecks to clog the wheel of devt. Must we always delve into the status quo?

What's German job got to do with Nigerian jobs and local content, or even if our economy is shitty or not?

We want Nigerians to participate, period, so why is this a bad thing or something for you to commit suicide over?

Is it a crime and something terrible for Nigerians to be hired to do a job by a job?

Some of you try to sound smart, but you end up sounding ignorant, pointless, meninges and mentally redundant., you hate your own country so much that you can not even make sense to justify your mindless hatred.

you've never been an advocate for a one, indivisible and prosperous Nigeria than I do. But in all we must identify our developmental clogs and adopt ways of reducing them. It's the same rubbish of home grown this and that that's why inflation has gotten to the heavens in Nigeria. A bag of rice not worth #5000 in neighbouring Benin is worth over 25k because we want to promote local content without recourse to economic principles. We fail to establish large scale industries that will upscale our production and make supply surplus, rather we dwell in 18 century rudimentary rice cultivation by local farmers to feed our population. A govt that borrows loan to build rail to Niger Republic can't borrow loan to boost local rice production in large scale.

You fail to ask yourself why this same Siemens deal perform wonders in India, Egypt, but has been a pipe dream in Nigeria. Keep promoting the local content mediocrity at the expense of speedy devt. A project dat won't exceed 4yrs you're talking of local content. When our major goal should be the long term benefit and how to repay the Germans in the shortest possible time so we can fully regain the infrastructure.

This is just typical shallow Nigerian news without details.

Can anyone tell me exactly how Siemens plans to get us from our current paltry 4000MW to 7000MW? Is it by providing gas to existing under utilized gas plants? If so, where is the gas magically going to come from? Or do they plan to deploy grid scale solar and wind?

And then how are we to get from 7000MW to 11,000MW and then on the 25,000MW. Even if money were not an impediment, that sort of jump would still be very challenging to pull off, given the so many things that can go wrong with executing a project like this in Nigeria beyond the financial aspects.

As far as I'm concerned this is all just shallow talk, as there is no concrete plan!!

There are ongoing gas plant projects and supply projects like AKK. There are power plants planned along this route. The 700MW Zungeru dam is nearing completion.
Transcorp power wants to embark on 1000MW plant but is constrained because of lack of distribution capacity. Dangote will build 12,000mw power plant at his refinery location.

Apart from that the current installed capacity for power generation is about 13-15GW, while only 5 GW get evacuated through the national grid.

Really we should have concentrated on distribution capacity to encourage private investment instead of building useless power generating plants that can't evacuate power produced.

Saying the fact that the German government endorsed the deal doesn't mean she's involved in implementation or the nuts and bolts was biased? You mind explaining that?

I was biased, but you agreed with me? Are you confused?

I still don't get the fixation and obsession with the dead man, the man can not marginally come up with the money to fund the project or eradicate Nigeria's local content policy or even any of the challenges the Chancellor listed.

Btw, there was nothing anomaly per the man as the President's envoy piloting our engagement regarding this project unless you are ready to list what the so-called power minister could have done differently? Or you mean the power minister can come up with the money or eradicate our local content policy? Exactly what?

Stop looking for boogeymen and angles where there are none, this is a reflection of your own bias..

its like they are intentionaly keepin it around 4000mw....

The investment of the last previous 20 years focused on power generation almost exclusively.
Now we have 13,000Mw generation capacity but no transmission and distribution capacity to deliver them. That's the focus of first 2 phases of the Siemens deal, expand transmission and distribution to 11,000mw with 2,000mw as reserve. That will more then double available power to consumers but still a far cry.

Once this phase is attained, enough lesson would have been learnt to accelerate delivery to 25,000mw by phase 3. A number if power generation plants would have been completed.

Dangote also announced plans to generate 12,000mw at Lekki refinery to the national grid. But he will not invest this money If the distribution capacity does not reach 25,000mw. Just like no private investor will expand capacity. Who will Bell the cat to tie money down if there's no power to sell? That's why govt comes in with the Siemens deal

Why not let the Germans do their work and dis will automatically transcend into meaningful devt dat will grow the so-called local content. Whr they are to emphasize local content they wud not. Looking for way to initiate corruption into the whole deal.

I agree with you we should not let 50% local delay this all important project if we can't find reputable local companies to make some of parts and services.
It can be reduced to 10-20% if it will accelerate delivery. With more power available more companies will invest in power equipment manufacturing. Then we can insist on 50% local content we journey to 100,000mw we still need to reach everywhere

There are many simple galvanized steel parts for electrical pylons and quality electrical cables that a number of Nigerian companies can easily make rather than employ Germans to make it in Germany.

The deal is not aid money or a gift. We are paying for it over some years. Siemens wants to create as many jobs as possible in Germany with this loan and that is enlightened self interest. But many of you chide Nigeria for also pursuing it interest to use this project to revive struggling steel sector and create fresh talent that can be deployed for other projects many that are still coming

There have been many instances where special purpose vehicles are used to deliver emergency programs. A new team or taskforce can be created in health care, infrastructure, military etc to achieve a set objective without distrupting the bureaucracy set for it. It's not strange in a presidential system. Example is the new deal programs in the USA that had its own commission, or commission for industrial conversion to wartime production without going through a standing department.

In Nigeria we've had special commissions not under a specific ministry bureaucracy like OMPADEC now NDDC not under any ministry.

You keep confusing yourself. Commissions set up are always under the supervision of minister/secretary that handles related portfolio. Nddc is under nd minister, nafdac under minister, NCC under communication minister. Now, where is the announcement for the commission that was led by only the CoS. This is the anomaly.

Why are mentally backward and self loathing people like you always against your own and Nigerian's best interests?

Every country on the surface of the earth demands local content for a lot of reasons, from jobs to tech transfer.

China and a lot of developing countries are powerful today because they demanded local content because it was the only way for them to develop and acquire technology.

Siemens carried out this order for the Indian network operator with a high degree of local content. The key to this was a comprehensive transfer of know-how and expertise with a sophisticated training concept. For example, the protection and control system cabinets of the three Static Var Compensation systems were manufactured in Kalwa, Mumbai, at the Siemens factory for network automation components.

https://press.siemens.com/global/en/pressrelease/siemens-stabilizes-indias-power-transmission-grid-large-scale-svc-systems

Because of Indian's strong local content requirement, Siemens gladly offered strong local content and TECH transfer to Indians, but in Nigeria with these backward and Kolomental Nigerian hating ipob, local content to benefit Nigerians is a sin and a taboo.

No wonder that part of Nigeria is so backward and at the bottom of everything in Nigeria.

Before you olodo Igbos use other countries to rubbish Nigeria, do some research so you don't sound like ignorant illiterates that many of you really are..

they've been looking out for us since 1960 and here we are today. They have been looking out for us and dats why we've been in darkness for over 50yrs.

When it comes to things that favour the politicians, they go all out to implement it without public hoopla. The moment it bcoms a thing to rejig the Nigerian ecosystem, they introduce technicalities to kill it. Nigeria has the mammoth population. Have you bothered to ask yourself the future economic implication of having stable electricity and the job it will create? Have you considered the number of companies that will come back to Nigeria? You are more concerned of a short term gain as against a long term dream that will accelerate the Nigerian economy.

A poor man who has nothing to offer can't go about giving unfavourable terms to an investor willing to spend his cash.

You were quick to produce the local content initiated by Egypt, but not quick to see that Siemens and Germany had to restructure the terms of engagement.

If no Nigerian companies can do some of the work now, then I feel the FG should just make the Germans do majority of the work

The only reason the FG is dragging her foot and shouting local content is because Nigerians are still paying for Power Supply they are not using.

I blame Nigerians for all this shit sha.

After Siemens do this project and power supply increase, then we can start insisting on massive local content when we wanna expand from 20,000MW.

Nigerians need power supply, local content should not be used in delaying this project.

The ones that Nigerians cant do, should be transferred to the Germans.

The main aim for now is for electricity supply to Nigerians should improve.

If not for generator and solar, I hardly have up to 3hrs power supply daily
