(BTW, fwiw, I don't much care if Ekiti is "ruled" by a non-Ekiti man. I'm more interested in competent leaders in my part of Yorubaland than the leader necessarily being from my sub-ethnic group.) |

I am not sure Ekiti state is worse than Ebonyi. Why create Anioma state when you can do a boundary adjustment to carve Ibo part of Delta to Anambra. Cos you cant create Anioma State for the SE and deny people in SS their own slot. |

Was Ekiti not rule by a non Ekiti before the 1976 state split? Why would they have an issue with it right now |

Bliss4Lyfe: You are majoring in minor. The exact boundaries of that lingustic map are not what is important. What is important is that less (states) is more (cost-effective). |

ekt_bear: That is OUR generation not our father's. Nigeria was founded on tribalism and every ethnic group is with respect to the other. I mean, to an Ekiti man, you might be from Ekiti pupa while he is from Ekiti oke. To a Lagosian, you are an Ekiti man. To an Igbo man, you are Yoruba. To an African, you are Nigerian etc. Until "that" generation is gone, we can't go through with your idea, although good but . . . |
Re: We Are Creating More States - Ekweremadu (Senate VP) by aloyemeka1: 11:36pm On Jun 20, 2011 |
ZnO: same with every state in Nigeria. They all claim to have this and that but can never produce enough to feed themselves how much less feeding others. |
Re: We Are Creating More States - Ekweremadu (Senate VP) by ZnO: 11:36pm On Jun 20, 2011 |
Dayo: You create Anioma from Delta and the rump of Delta State remains as Delta State. So no loss from that exercise. |

jason123: Linguistically out of place Jason, Were are the ibibio,Annang,Oron of Akwa Ibom on the linguistic map? |
Re: We Are Creating More States - Ekweremadu (Senate VP) by aloyemeka1: 11:38pm On Jun 20, 2011 |
jason123: How do you intend to achieve that when the same sentiments are transferred from generations to generations?. As a matter of fact, it is becoming worse because the internet has succeed in proliferating tribalism in Nigeria. |
Re: We Are Creating More States - Ekweremadu (Senate VP) by jason123: 11:41pm On Jun 20, 2011 |
Bliss4Lyfe: Where is Itsekiri, Isoko or Uhrobo in that map? Exactly! The map also took into account the ethnic population and origin. Hence, Uhrobo was grouped as Benin and Itsekiri was grouped as Yoruba. |
Re: We Are Creating More States - Ekweremadu (Senate VP) by jason123: 11:42pm On Jun 20, 2011 |

This is a more accurate map. |

jason123: The oron and Annang don't consider dem-selves Ijaw but of Ibibio descent. The Idoma's and Igala should also be merged south east and south west for certain parts. This map is bul.l shi.t. |

Ezeuche, even you map is quite incorrect if we factor Ikwerre and Opobo as Igbo-speaking; then Igboland juts directly into the sea. Not that it matters to me. |

Re: We Are Creating More States - Ekweremadu (Senate VP) by aloyemeka1: 11:59pm On Jun 20, 2011 |
EzeUche!: The truth is that Igbos and Yorubas are slowly becoming a threat to not only themselves and fellow Nigerians but neighboring countries. Becomerich had drawn similar map on how he will agitate for Oduduwa state and you did the same thing today. I wouldn't be surprised if these peaceful neighbors allay their fears over colonization and tyranny by Igbo and Yoruba thugs. This thing is getting out of hand. Stop usurping people's land in order to enlarge your territory. Are you a Russian? |

aloy/emeka: But to be real, The Yoruba empire (Oyo) actually extended to Benin, Togo and eastern Ghana where they fought the Ashantes and defeated them but did not bother rule them. THE EPIC BATTLE BETWEEN THE YORUBAS AND THE ASHANTIS AT ATAKPAME (PRESENT DAY TOGO). IT IS POPULARLY KNOWN AS "THE BATTLE OF ATAKPAME" https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-675773.128.html |

jason123: Jason, I know the story you are trying to tell but it's not quite the way u tell it. The gist is the yoruba's(men) intruded into the lands of the fon and were mistaken for hostile intruders and attacked by fon women and defeated from which the mythology of Amazonian women imaged. |

More job for the boys. More states means more power to the center, hence more dependence on the center. Haha! |

Re: We Are Creating More States - Ekweremadu (Senate VP) by GAR3TH(m): 12:22am On Jun 21, 2011 |
In reality Nigeria has to many pointless states. Just like someone said if you take away the monthly federal allocations away, how many of these state can survive on their own. As a matter of fact a large amount of the 36 states only have 1 major city within the state. And your telling me we need more states?, When so many states are virtually empty? Nigeria needs to start combining states, 36 states is to much for a country that is a little larger than Texas. |

EzeUche!: I knew you will be here . . Bliss4Lyfe: Btw, if it did happen, how did the Yorubas get to Ghana and confront the Ashantes How did they conquer the Ewe?? without conquering the Fons? (I am just a bit ignorant but will do some research). |
Re: We Are Creating More States - Ekweremadu (Senate VP) by jason123: 12:28am On Jun 21, 2011 |
Bliss4lyf I got this: The Oyo Empire was a large West African empire founded in approximately 1300 C.E. The largest West African empire to exist in present day Yorubaland (Nigeria), it was also the most important and authoritative of all the early Yoruba principalities. Beginning as simply the city of Oyo, it rose to prominence through wealth gained from trade with both its African neighbors as well as European nations such as Spain and Portugal. Because of its wealth of military skill, the Oyo Empire was the most politically important Yoruba state from the mid-seventeenth to the late eighteenth century, exercising control not only over other Yoruba states, but also over the Fon Kingdom of Dahomey. http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Oyo_Empire |
