... New Politics for good governance

... Make the President accountable to the youth agenda

The first-of-its-kind significant bold step towards galvanising Nigerian youths to vie for and assume political positions in 2023 got underway on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, with the staging of a mass youth rally tagged the ‘South West Progressive Youth Festival.’

The festival, organised by the All Progressives Congress National Youth Lobby Committee under the auspices of the Office of the APC National Youth Leader, Hon. Ismaeel Ahmed, held at the Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, and brought together about than 30,000 young people from the six South West and Kwara States to press their demands and galvanize more young people to contest for political offices starting from the party convention and the 2023 general elections.

Among the notable youth leaders and influencers that addressed the rally were the APC National Youth Leader, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Abiola-Peller, Kabir Aregbesola, Hon Seyi Adisa, Hon. IQ Babatunde, Aderinsola Abiola, Afiz Repete, and renowned marketing communications and governorship Abisoye Fagade.

Speaking at the rally, Barrister Ahmed, said The Progressive Youth Festival was one of the numerous initiatives being organised to strategically advocate consideration for young people and placing them in the political leadership of the country.
He added that the initiative was aimed at driving a bolder effort to energise and empower young people to take ownership of their political future by contesting for leadership positions and organising more effectively for progressive reforms through a mainstream party.

‘‘The goal is to build a young people’s political movement that will produce the next president, set the agenda and hold him/her accountable for the benefit of the millions of young people that make the majority of our country,’’
‘‘The hosting of this festival by the South West Progressive Youth is an initiative for championing a new type of politics for good governance, and to advocate for the needed level-playing ground for the younger generation to flourish and for Nigeria to achieve its true potential,’’ he said.

The group further revealed that their plan of action for success would include doing things differently by adopting innovative approach to their activities such as organisation, mobilisation, funding advocacy, training and problems-solving in particular development issues peculiar to Nigeria.

“We are ready to take our future in our own hands, set agenda for the next President, hold him accountable and produce the next president,” they affirmed. This is because the youth segment represents the over 50 per cent of Nigeria’s population and time was ripe for them to take up political leadership with a view to building a greater, brighter and prosperous future for the country.

Speaking on behalf of the media team, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola stressed that youths played vital roles in the sustenance of Nigeria’s nascent democracy and as such, must take leading positions in local and national politics.

He said, “The APC Youth Festival is the collective efforts of APC youths from the South West geo-political zone. Our conviction is that the time is now for the youths to take their rightful position in national politics and leadership. So, as youths we aim to use this opportunity to gather under one roof to network and develop a roadmap for youth inclusiveness ahead of the 2023 general elections. I urge Nigerians to support this noble cause by the youth.”

The festival hosted the zazzu crooner Portable, Airboy and the Fuji maestro Saheed Osupa amongst other celebrities and Nollywood stars.

Ok let the campaign start.

OGA PETER OBI

Ngige was sworn in May 29, 2003. That year Anambra State generated N800m in revenue. 2004, the revenue quadrupled to N3.6bn, 2005, the previous year's revenue doubled to N7.4bn.
March 2006, he got booted out of office for operating with a stolen mandate and Peter Obi was sworn in Same 2006, revenue dips by over 40% to N4bn, He left office in March 2014 leaving the IGR at N8bn (2013). 2014, IGR jumped to N10bn. The numbers for 2021are not yet out but 2020 puts the State's IGR at N28bn.
I think there is so much to unpack here. In ~3yrs, Ngige was able x9 the State's IGR, Obiano was able to do x3.5 while Peter Obi could barely move the needle. It took Peter Obi 8 YEARS to surpass what he met on ground and the difference was just a billion.

Is this the person you people are saying will perform wonders after buhari?

I need to paint a picture of Ngige's three years so we understand. Ngige got sworn in May, by June, he had fallen out with his godfathers for reneging on their agreement. July, he was abducted and forced to resign, He managed to scale through that hurdle and was back in office. Those year, there was a court judgement that sacked him from office. The Police withdrew his security on the advice of the AGF. For 8 months, a governor was being guarded by vigilantes and private security

Same 2004, in November, hoodlums allegedly financed by the Uba brothers (Ngige's erstwhile godfathers) took over Anambra for three days, they burnt down govt buildings, the govt's radio stations, I think govt house was also torched, Ngige's office and I think his deputy's

This is the environment Ngige operated and was able to x9 the State's revenue. Peter didn't also have it easy, he got impeached same year he was sworn in but he was there for 8 YEARS.

Got the keys to two major commercial centres (Nnewi & Onitsha) and this is his result
Looking at the numbers again, Peter Obi met a State totally dependent on FAAC, the ration of FAAC to IGR is about 83:17 and left it in that same state. They could barely pay salaries alone from the State's revenue. This is the person that wants to transform Nigeria

"Peter Obi is a businessman so he is going to create a business-friendly environment". Let's verify.

In 2008, the first Ease of doing business report was piloted in Nigeria with 10 states. Anambra tied with Kano at No. 8.

8 out of 10. Two years later, in 2010, another ranking was done, this time capturing all the States, Anambra came 35

Under a trader, Anambra was the 35th hardest place to do business in Nigeria

Someone will just come and be bamboozling. He says Nigeria's budget per citizen on healthcare is N5/day, ask him how he much budgeted when he was governor. 2006 census puts Anambra's population at 4.1m. I doubt that man ever budgeted up to N1.5bn. Let's dash him N2bn, that's N1.3

"He pay salary, he pay salary". Doctors went on strike for 13 months!

He tried his best but he still left a kidnappers HQ. Traditional rulers, expats, people in academics, the rich, everybody felt the brunt.

The daughter of a lawmaker was killed when they were trying to kidnap her mom, that was the second attempt

He will go on ARISE and say it's because Nigeria is not providing jobs, that's why crime rate is on the rise. Agreed but which ones did he provide as governor or how did his state become a kidnapper's haven? Evans was operating there before he migrated to Lagos.

Someone that did not think pensions was important till an elderly woman seized his bible. He has shamelessly told this story repeatedly because he knows Nigeria place a premium on entertainment, humility & religiosity.
"Aw, he still goes to Mass", "No bodyguard?" "hehehe" mschew

His first term was nothing to write home about. Even APGA Chairman acknowledged it. They had to use Ojukwu's health to emotionally blackmail to get him a second term.

APC sponsored drivel. After campaigning and collecting money the youths will go back to their poverty stricken villages or slums to demand "owo da" until the next elections.
