They can resign one day to commencement of campaign.

If there is evidence of them campaigning and participating in elections before resigning, their victory could be invalidated in court.

They are eligible when they resign current appointment

According to the section 84(10) of the new Electoral act recently signed into law, act which any government appointee interested in contesting or voting for any candidate in Party primaries must resign their positions 3 months ahead of such primary elections.

Now according to the recently released INEC time table. Political partiers have between April 4 to June 3, 2022 to conduct their primaries and ensure resolution of disputes from the exercise.

It means, going by the above provisions in the act and INEC time table, any government appointe who may be interested to participate in his or her party primaries and didnt resign by at least March 3rd, 2020 stands disqualified..

Thank you Lawan/Gbaja

Saraki we love your retirement

You may have to consider that it's only recently signed and thus not yet binding

A law become binding the moment it is signed into law. Except part of that law provides exceptions

Yes but it does not have retrospective effect. It is enough if they resign immediately or within a reasonable time the bill was signed into law.It would not have been possible to resign in compliance with the law at a time when the law was not in existence.

Bros, it becomes Law the moment the President assented to it.

Are u kidding me, recent what? The moment a bill is sign into law automatic becomes active and bide by all citizens of that country. The only electoral law known today in Nigeria, is the 2022 electoral act as amended.

This was done to knock some people out of the race; Amaechi, Malami, the other Ministers gunning for governorship plus the outgoing Governors who want to install one of their commissioners as their successor (Pastor in Akwa Ibom).

It gives the NASS members a better chance at becoming governors
