PDP Dundees will roast you for this. They hate anyone that speaks the truth.

Well, if Buhari had gone further and removed subsidy in 2015 completely....and allowed marketers to set the price, there would have been no scarcity anyway.

If he had supported GEJ's sensible idea to remove subsidy in 2012, by now, we would have had more refineries self, and government won;t be struggling with bad fuel.

Do you see any politicians with their convoys queuing at filling stations struggling to purchase fuel? They have a large quantities of fuel reserve at their respective residence's.

A thinking government would have removed subsidies and allowed the market , not government, to set prices of petrol, same as for DPK, and Diesel.

Real leaders plan ahead.
This president has no clue of what political leadership is all about.
Approval of Fire Brigade measures.
Worse, Buhari is squaring to annoint his successor, unarguably, like him.

Well, the plan B would have involved removing subsidies...in 2015, which while ending all the mess, also means high prices for fuel...meaning high prices for food, etc.

That's why governments don't want to remove fuel subsides. Buhari included...even though it is a good decision for many reasons.

(By removing subsides, it includes government not setting the price of fuel)

If we had allowed GEJ to sell at the N140 he was aiming for, by now not only would scarcity have ended, but there might have been enough revenue to commence domestic refining...and savings would have been enough.

Plus work would have started on the 3 refineries he was planning with the Chinese in 2010...

GEJ is gone and buried. Wake up and smell the coffee. He lost woefully to Buhari and will lose again if another election is conducted between both of them

For the first time in the history of democratic governance, we have a president who absolves himself from the failings of people he unilaterally appointed into his cabinet!

The government is spending money that it would have used for refineries on paying NNPC for the loss it incurres in selling fuel at N163 , which it imports at N200 and above . (now 330).

That's why you don't have refineries, and why the old ones don't work. And it has been like that for 30 years.

It's called partial removal of subsidy. And it has to happen, otherwise, instead of the N168 or more that we pay for subsidy, it would be N240 or more by now., if we kept fuel at N87 per liter., and the subsidy budget would be hitting N10 trillion per annum.

It is also why you don't pay 15 kobo for fuel, like we did in 1981

It's not total removal if it is government still setting the price at the end of the day.

Very true, it's the hard and right choice. Every government is just afraid of the backlash from the citizens.

But it is the right and proper thing to do in Nigeria.

Well, he is, but the truth is, Buhari has to remove subsidy completely, not keep it.

His keeping it is why we have issues, including the bad fuel, affecting our country.

You cannot import at N330, sell at N162, and expect things to run perfectly. Selling at a loss means crap service. (and yes, the PMS we use is one of the dirtiest in the world, even before this debacle, because we refine it at bad refineries in Belgium and Holland to keep subsidy costs low).

There is nothing like subsidy payment. There is a lot of corruption going on under Buhari's regime. They pay millions of Ransome to bandits and bokoharam who they grant amnesty.Buhari's foreign medical tourism is also depleting the revenue.Nass receives billions as constituency allawee and other illegal allowances plus padding of budget. All these expenses are the reasons he want to increase fuel price.

There is nothing like subsidy payment.

There is a subsidy, otherwise NNPC won't be able to afford to import one liter of fuel at N330 (last week, it was 232 in June 2021), and sellit at below N160 to marketers.

If NNPC continued to do the above, it would have crashed by now. The subsidy government pays it enables it to subsidize fuel without losing money.

That's why we should vote out Buhari in 2023 (I myself have refused to vote for PDP or APC since i voted first in 2003. ).

All these expenses are the reasons he want to increase fuel price.
[/quote]

Then why did GEJ want to increase prices from N65 to N140 in 2011? Or Obasanjo and Abacha too ? Or why did prices of fuel go up from 75kobo in 1991 to N5 IN 1994?

Keep in mind that the cost of importing fuel has gone up from N180 in late 2020, to N330 per liter now. Due to rising crude oil prices. Mewaning government is paying higher for crude oil subsides than it was 2 years ago.

Also, keep in mind that government has had to take loans because oil has been low for the past 8 years, till 6 weeks ago. Otherwise, the government won't have been able to pay for ANYTHING in the last 8 years.?

Subsides have been impacting on our ability to maintain a budget. Especially in times of chrinically low oil prices, and the resultant rising debt.
Re: Buhari Endorses Plan To End Fuel Scarcity by anonimi: 2:04pm On Mar 14, 2022
Backbencher2:
That happened because Buhari made NNPC the sole importer of fuel, meaning that the loophole of 'importing' that was used to embezzle subsidy money was closed...meaning that NNPC took on itself the burden of subsidising fuel...and government paid up the equivalent of the subsidy NNPC spent to them so that they won't collapse.

Even then, NNPC cannot sustain the subsidy, so from time to time, price increases occur. This might be one of those times.

If the loophole is blocked, please why is subsidy increasing despite Bubu's rumoured integrity
