What falsehood am I propagating?
Is it the case that tollgates are planned only for this project and not on any other Federal Road?

I never knew there will be toll gate at the much dramatized bridge. Nigerian government collected loans to build rail to Niger Republic, a less important economic route, for free but these loans would be repaid by Nigeria. While the bridge that will connect those of us from Niger Delta and the Igbo people is going to be tolled? That toll gate will be burnt down... anytime they put it back again, it will be burnt again again. Useless people! I no blame Igbo people sha, na those of us in the Niger Delta wey no get sense. Smh

You mean people board the new trains for free?

No mind them. The newly built Federal multi-lane highway in Ogun state (when you enter from Epe) also has Toll gates o, nobody fight am because it's part of the provision put in place to ensure that the road is well maintained in future. It indeed is disheartening that what ordinarily should be a source of pride and joy to a people, in Nigeria, becomes the very same source of sorrow, disdain and disappointment. You actually captured all points as regards the second Niger bridge project as well as other projects, even of less economic importance, going simultaneously in other parts of the nation.
I at this point will also opine that the political leaders in the south east,as well as the south south have grossly failed their people. Part of being a senator,a rep member is projecting the interests, as Numerous as they are, of your people. My dear, that singular act has never seen the light if the day.
The people, the lead. This class of people are in fact, another point of problem, which if properly solved,a lasting solution to bad leadership wouod have been proferred.
As a people, we have never asked for proper leadership, accountability and proper stewardship. Dare I say that we lost the rights to ask for all these because in times past, and even in the forthcoming election, people will arise to still clap on corrupt entities into power all in the of him/her being experienced in the game of politics.
At this point, let me say that the people of the south south and south should hold their sons and daughters, who hold key positions either by appointment or election,at both the state and federal government responsible for the gross misrepresentation, undervalue, wickedness and gross exploitation the people have suffered

Rubbish
Re: The Evil Toll Gates At Onitsha Second Niger Bridge by Miracle2022: 10:42am On Mar 15, 2022
Rugaria:
No nation built on nepotism and sectionalism archives her full potential. Infact most promising states around the globe have imploded in the past, under the enermous weight of their iniquitous history full of tribalism, favouritism and grand injustices. This is so, because for the people of any given country to come together and galvanize their collective abilities towards modernizing their state, there must exist a sense of nationalism, patriotism and a common purpose. This can't happen when it has become a government policy to marginalize, antagonize and deprive a certain section that contributes immensely towards the economic growth of the country, her fare share of national projects and recognitions..

A case in point here is the over dramatized Second Niger bridge. In the history of this eternally convulsing amalgam, no project has been so dramatized, so politicized and so unashamedly utilized as a political football by the close minded political class in Abuja, at the detriment of the welfare and greater economic activities in the South East and the South South regions. The drama started way back during the military era, when the aging bridge built by the then Eastern government in the 50s, started to show signs of wear and tear. This bridge was bombed during the Nigeria - Biafra war and was extensively damaged as a result of the endless skirmishes there. For a long time, the bridge has been the only shaky link between the former Eastern Nigeria and the rest of the country. With the economic activities going on in such wonderful places like Onitsha, Aba, Port Harcourt, Owerri and the rest, the enermous economic importance/impact of this bridge can not be over emphasized..

It's against this backdrop, that one is overwhelmingly alarmed at the disdain with which the federal government has carried on with this project over the years. Firstly, under Babangidas administration, a drawing of the bridge was made with plans for a rail crossing. But nothing happened as it rgards construction proper. Obasanjo came in and only laid the foundation stones few hours to his abdication of office in 2007, which was basically nothing but a taunt" to those who considered the bridge an essential project to them! The plan for the rail lines over the bridge was also shelved. Jonathan did start the project but suggested a partnership between the construction companies, the state government and the federal government as it regards the funding. Then came Buhari, whose administration saw the second Niger bridge as the most convenient project to use as a balancing act for his brazen but shameful display of bigotry and classic igbophobia.

The bridge will now have almost a dozen Toll Gates!! This will be the first and only project built under any administration since the coming of civilian rule in 1999, that will demand that those using it will pay for all bills incurred during construction! Ofcourse, it's mainly the people of the South East. There are many projects in the North being handled as we speak, by the federal government that have bigger cost outlays when compared to the second Niger bridge but whose total cost are shouldered entirely by the federal government, even if it means borrowing! A good example is the nearly One trillion Naira Abuja - Zaria - Kano road. Infact, Nigeria has gone on to borrow billions of dollars to erect highways and railways and pipelines to Niger republic, another country! Nigerians as a people will collectively pay for these projects in another country, while the South Easterners, who are going to be the main users of The second Niger bridge, will pay through their noses for EVERY cent used to build that bridge!

"Fellow Nigerians", Is this fair??

Below is The Muhammadu Buhari Toll gates at the yet to be commissioned second Niger bridge:

Is lekki not toll? Even the so called railway in Niger will be toll. No matter what buhari do to you people you will continue to hate him. Tafawa Balewa build the first Niger bridge but what did you do to him. You killed him! There is nothing they will do to you that you will not wail.
Mr man, you are free to wail till you die like Ojukwu. Who cares?

The project is PPP Julius Berger also funding the construction of the bridge, they will recuperate their money from the tailgate, all Nigerians will pay not just Igbos will use the bridge, this same method was used in construction of Lekki/Ikoyi bridge, same with IJebu ode/Epe high way that was commissioned last month, if its was FG that's funding second Niger bridge it will still be 30% completed.

Dr. Chris Ngige speaking back then in 2014 said he shunned the groundbreaking of the second Niger bridge by GEJ because the cost was overinflated to the tune of N114 billion when in reality it should have cost no more than N70 billion on PPP.

His exact words were that the estimated cost was a rip off on the economy of the country!

Under PMB who cancelled the GEJ’s contract and brought his own, the bridge now costs N336 billion, but it is not a rip off to Ngige anymore!

The railway linking Kano-Dutse-Niger costs a whooping N814 billion with the only importance of that route being that those in Maradi & Jibiya in Niger know it is a springboard for human trafficking to Europe.

So why make it easy for traffickers who hurt our economy but expensive for those whose tax fund our economy??

The APC is like that 'I-go-carry' wheelbarrow pusher who refuses to admit he is incapacitated even when all can see he is! Propaganda and lies can only take you thus far. No matter how many igbokwes you mint to say otherwise, this govt has been not for the south or the north but for foreigners!

I knew buhari administration is up to something when they started using the bridge as their only achievement. Pls how in heaven you claimed trying to ease people in that region stress and pain by building the bridge yet uncompleted but started mounting Toll gates at 100 meters apart pls is that not madness? Then buhari has done nothing if its the citizen who plies the bridge are the ones to pay for it then Buhari had done nothing.

I'm not saying they should not put toll gate because Lagos has similar toll shit, I think one toll gate in and when return one out its ok then People will appreciate it than turning the bridge to park and drop center.

It is not PPP
Julius Berger is not funding the project that part of your story is not true

When GEJ was there and agreement was entered for PPP but the investor pulled out . The reason is that when they signed a MOU the $ was 165 and it crashed in 2015 meaning they could not proceed . That arrangement was CANCELLED and the FG is funding the bridge 100%.
That information is online

One of the major problem Nigeria have is the entitlement nature of her people.
We want good things to be maintained and new ones built, but we don't want to contribute.

Why would you toll a bridge that is of economic importance to Nigeria.

the DEMONS IN POWER USED THAT BRIDGE TO KILL MARINE MOVEMENTS IN THE RIVER NIGER.
ITS SO LOW THAT NO VESSEL WILL GO THROUGH IT.

Toll Gate seems to be the new idea of the present government. I suppose Fashola who was a champion of Toll Gate in Lagos brought up the idea as Minister of Works.

Well before calling the toll evil, we need to look at the modalities before complaining. And also see if it will be implemented in other zones with similar Chinese loans.
The idea of tolling that bridge didnt start from this administration. The original idea when GEJ initiated the project was for the bridge to be built on a PPP arrangement and tolled.

Fast forward to Buhari, the PPP arrangement was shelved and the FG opted to fund it fully. What then is not clear is why the FG still has to toll the bridge despite it no longer being a PPP. I guess the current administration just took advantage of the fact that the SE appeared to accept (and even applauded) the tolling idea under GEJ.

Let's watch and see how things unfold, i.e. whether the Lagos-Ibadan and Kaduna-Zaria-Kano roads will be tolled too (as stated by Fashola) when completed. If they arent tolled, then anyone who plants the dynamite in the 2NB toll stations deserve very chilled Hero beer.

Y'all, the bridge was funded under Public Private Partnership PPP and the loans needs to be paid. It was designed like this right from the on set. It better than 5-8hrs traffic congestion commuters face most especially during festivities
was that method used to build other projects across the Nation?
