Then why haven't they all returned to Naija, if things aren't better for them over there

Because they are trapped. When you burn your britches in Nigeria, shame as well as your practical position no go allow you return.

Those who have been there know very much how easier it is to live here than there .. Even the weather is far better but our government is our major project , let's be cursing wicked men in power .. Let God visit them with terrible judgement. The men in power in Naija are very mean and wicked..

Funny you should mention that, you'll find that UK doesn't change much. It's not known as "old England" for nothing. Those 20 years ago reputation is just as relevant today.

You have obviously never left Nigeria.

What about council tax?

What about transportation?

If you are paying £700 for renting 2 bed flat, you are OBVIOUSLY not living in London.

So, it if you are not living in London, that means your council tax would be even much higher as London has the lowest council tax rates.

So, you di not factor the £130 per month he would have to pay for council tax?

What about the bus, rail and/car expenses?

If he does not live in London and wants to eat his African food, how much would it cost him? It would even be more expensive than the cost in London.

Have you ever bought a 1kg bag of garri for N3,000 before? And 4kg bag of beans for N10,000?

Or one RAW/UNCOOKED snail for N2,000?
if you leave in London/England then you should be making more than 2000 a month as the basic minimum income if you are single. My analysis was for outside London/Manchester and for most basic expensis/ bill. Mind you wife cooks African food all times... cheesy

Here in the North, I pay N150,000 for 3 bedroom flat. That amount will pay 6 years rent for me.
Well, north is relative. Same 150k would barely get u a decent 2-bedroom flat in Kaduna (north). So be specific. Could be kebbi, Katsina, zamfara or yobe. Those kinda places in the north.

Greedy Nigerians will complain of Nigeria and they will finally travel to Obodo oyinbo and starts earning in hard currencies, next minutes they starts complaining and converting their expenditures to Naira as if they are making their money in Naira abroad . Greedy people complain everywhere they go . Bros how much do you make monthly if you convert it to Naira ,am sure you make up to 2 million Naira monthly. How many Nigerians make up to that monthly in Nigeria ? Besides 600k -900k CANT rent a very good 3bedroom in a good location in Lagos . 3BD in My area is up to 4 million - 5millio. naira yearly excluding other hidden charges such as Security levy ,estate maintenance levey ,Generator levy etc . The UK is one absolutely crazy and unforgiving place. We've been looking for accommodation for 4 weeks now without success.

After submission of application and viewings, landlords will give us a negative response with the comment: "Sorry children are not allowed".

Like WTF?!!!

Thanks. I am moving to the UK in a few months. My annual income will be around £130k. And I may make much more than that. That's okay for me. I don't care what nonsense that guy is writing there. If he doesn't like it he should come back to Nigeria and go rent a duplex in Ikorodu or Lugbe in Abuja. He shouldn't disturb us. Was he telling us to clap for him?

Your annual income is £130k? And you may make much more than that, yea? Are you a ceo of a multinational? Or are you just projecting?? Until you land in the abroad and receive your paycheck suffry suffry on the loudness or in this case lieeeeeesssssss grin grin grin

All this talk of come back to Nigeria if he is tired of UK, Nigerians living in the UK relocate back to Nigeria all the time. Nothing special about the UK only to someone who have never traveled before.

I have seen people enjoying all those amenities in places like Abuja. They install solar, live in houses that are even better than here and have access to cheap labour. So no need to bypass electricity.

What that guy was trying to explain is that there is a small window of opportunity for mega enjoyment in Nigeria in comparison, if you're well set up.

Imagine a guy living in Nigeria with a fully paid house , cheap labour, and solid business as compared to a guy in a 3 bed 600k pounds mortgage in London earning 100k.

I think i'll take the former. After many years here , I've realized no be our papa get all this useless things we cap about like good roads. You want to carry the road to Nigeria after retirement or you want to die in obodo oyinbo washing plates at 60 , then off to a retirement home at 70.

I just laugh at those comments, good roads and steady electricity that you will get tired off within a year and after that you start asking what's next.

2022 Minimum wage in the UK is £9.50 for people over the age of 23.

According to tax calculation, monthly take home pay from a minimum wage job working 40 hours weekly is £1,417.75. If you have a wifey working part-time (also at minimum wage), that's £2126.625.

So even if you or you and your spouse flip burgers or make chicken and chips (unskilled work), you can still manage your bills. If you can't, the UK has public assistance programs to reduce your rent.

MINIMUM WAGES COMPARISON

Nigeria=N30,000.00 equivalent to £38.4

UK=£1,471.36 equivalent to N1,147,,660.08

Breakdown: £8.36 x average 8 hrs per day = 66.48 x 22 working days = £1,471.36 x N780 =N1,147,660.08

Monthly Minimum wage is:
Nigeria N30k
UK N1.4m

You don't know who I am mate. Relax. It isn't a projection abeg. This is standard pay. I am a specialist in my field, and I am in the medical field. I have paid my dues in Nigeria and now its time to move. People I trained have moved, mine is just 3 months from now.

Did you just say CEO? Lol... go and find out what real CEOs make. Even some CEOs in Nigeria make up to 400m per year. In 2020 GTbank's CEO was paid 399m. Guy, you dey dull oo... People are hitting it big with genuine hard work and you are here talking nonsense.

While we chat on Nairaland, many are actually serious with their lives and moving on.

Hmmm, cost of living may be high but so also is cost of earnings now, if not general standard of living would have been lower than what we have here now
