1. It is the candidate who must submit the name of his running mate, not the party.
2. The running mate is chosen(not elected) by the candidate. It is only after being jointly elected at the general polls the VP's position becomes statutorily independent of the president.
3. Within the window grace of INEC, any candidate can choose to replace his CHOSEN running mate. No running mate has the power to refuse replacement. In the first place he/she never contested for any post.

However, the candidate cannot simply replace the running-mate…
There are specific provisions required for the replacement of a running-mate.

The assumption is that there are already agreements in place…
But nonetheless it would be a very STICKY situation if a running-mate goes rogue.

You can't fault Bola Ahmed Tinubu's choice beyond the Muslim/Muslim ticket.
And if they decide to keep it so, the chances of winning is still strong, regardless, considering he is a Southerner and he picked a VP from Katsina - a core Northern state that produced the current president.

But NO CORE NORTHERNER will vote a 100% Southern Christian/Christian ticket. So Peter Obi's strategy is dead on arrival.

Straight up reasoning ! To me this shows one thing .... Tinubu's only interest is having the title of President. If his lifelong ambition is to be President.... and govern the country .... before even throwing his hat in the race ... he would've known who would be his VP .... and hold other positions in his government. Here it is... he is not sure. If elected... then how long will it take to appoint other members of government?
