The Federal Government should pay the university workers the backlog of salaries. ASUU is right in demanding that because the lecturers are going to cover up the work for 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions. If the Federal Governemnt allows the strike to enter September, ASUU will accept to lose the backlog of salaries, but then throw the students into a hell of a situation, as students completely lose 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions. University workers will definitely work for the backlog of salaries.
And they'll get paid for covering backlog of work. Payment starts from the month they call off and they won't jump to next session until current sessions end. So they'll be paid for completing the previous session.

Meanwhile, some universities were on the verge of writing end-of-session exams when the strike commenced.

What's stopping FG from sacking them? cheesy

Because FG has already signed an agreement to do A, B, and C.

Now ASUU is on strike because FG failed to implement what they signed.

As a democratic country, u can't sack them while on strike for a just cause... It will attract Court injucton and ASUU would win.

The best FG can do is to wait for them to call off the strike b4 sacking comence

I'm just wondering how that will affect government, when most of their kids are not in public universities.

Na poor student go suffer am. Imagine paying school fees for that session and doing it half way. Some uni self na final exam people dey wait for.
You will have to leave it and go enroll for a new session, starting everything over again.

FG and ASUU decision are only affecting one party....that is the students.

Did you hear ASUU insisting on anything in favour of students other than more money for themselves?

What of the newly admitted students? Will you tell jamb to stop each session or pause till university catch up?

The problem is that we are using one university academic calendar. Everyone is trying to catch up with it, no one will wait for u.

The calendar is not just for federal and state universities.

This is what they've ever wanted, all about selfish interests and greed, increase in allowances and salaries. They have no sympathy for the students or cared about the standards of school infrastructures. It would be unjust if FG paid them for 6 months strike of unproductivity.
FG must pay them for the month of strike.Afterall, they are still going to work for those sessions left behind during the strike.
And beside, why didn't the FG negotiate with them at the early stage of the strike?

Didn't FG pay ASUU EAA during this strike?
It took two weeks before ASUU acknowledged it and even boasted that the payment just strengthened their resolve.
Majority of the students are already fed up and given up at the same time.
Very soon everyone will stop talking about ASUU, in fact i don't see the government calling for any meeting any time soon.
The only reason the government will not find the solution to the problem is because it is highly irresponsible government. They careless as long as they continue embezzling money

the truth is that ASSU is becoming obviously Selfish at this point, because if they have any Atom of petriotism , they ought to have conscience for the poor undergraduate Who still have a long way to go, have they considered the fate of the students who may exceed the standard age for Nysc, or do they think Nysc will grant a waver probably because of their Selfishness.

let them call off the strike while the negotiation continues with their leadership.

Thank God that good sense and patriotism has started setting in.

FG took ASUU and all of them to the court of public opinion and Nigerians got bewildered on realising the cost implication of the 2009 agreement is N1.1 trillion shocked
Where will FG get N1.1 trillion from that national budget? FG should stop creating new universities abeg.

FG , ASUU, NASU, SSANU and all the stakeholders must meet and agree on realistic way forward.

But your president, GMB, allocates N500bn/yr to ‘social investment’ without any ministry/portfolio,no oversight. Only presidency manages this account?? This is the biggest revenue taker amongst all ministries. More than Works and education commbined.

Abeg what is this I am seeing, I don't get;

writeprof:

“If we agree on that, therefore, the lectures we should have given [to students] for 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 [sessions], should be allowed to go so we start a new session, 2022/2023, in September,” Professor Osodeke said.

Make person explain this thing abeg. Should be allowed to go as in ?

What happens to the students that were merged together this session before the strike.
Since they are starting a new session 2022/2023 in September ??

It's appalling and disappointing to note that JAC, SSANU and NASU, are suspending their strike based on mere promises from FG.

I can assure them that non of the promises in their new agreement will be honoured by the FG.

I give them only 2 months to return back to the strike.
They even claimed they consulted their members which was a lie. It looks like they sold their members out
