sreamsense:

Are you the only union government is elected to improve its standard? You hide under canopy of fighting for students when truely you are fighting for yourselves in selfishness.

It is never by force to work as lecturers if you think the money is too small. Since you know politician are getting jumbo pay, why not go to where you know money is in politics instead of constituting nonsense into our institutions? Prof, doctors, engineers are also in politics, go and join them instead and let those young and vibrants that want to work and satisfy with the pay get recruited. After all many of you are only collecting salary without being productive.

Research that will attract funds from organizations, you can not do except publishing students' copied work, teaching, majority of lecturers can not transfer knowledge to younger generations because many of you never work in the industries for one day before comming into academic which make many of you transfer so dull knowledge to students graduating on yearly basis without basic relevant skills from so called ASSU-universities.

Now, you just want to get your own national cake by force and thereby ends up putting yourselves at ridicule. Now, to embark on another strike in the future now will attract shame and ridicule from masses. Your wings have been cut

Don't let emotions override u, u want lecturers to be carry out research without providing enabling environment for them, common light some time u have to buy fuel for generator from that little salary that u are getting. If wishes are horses, beggars too will ride. Nigerian lecturers are one of the poorest paid in the world. Despite the way that academics in Nigerian public universities are handled, their research outputs are visible in the global research database. Like Prof Amoka said: If political office holders should make one-tenth of the efforts and sacrifices made by academics in our public universities, they will be celebrated as heroes in office.

Talking of funds

Despite the horrible condition of service of academics in the country, Nigerian academics are winning research grants. An Associate professor at Bayero University Kano recently received a research grant of £969,680 from Wellcome. A senior lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria recently won a research grant of about 48,000 USD from Geophysics Without Borders. Other researchers from the Federal University Dutse won a grant of $59,930 from The World Academy of Science (TWAS) and €220,801 from the African Academy of Science on renewable energy. These are just a few of the grants won by academics within the strike period.

ASUU will call off the strike only to embark on another one after few weeks

And you think CONUA is anything different from ASUU? Just give them time.
If FG proscribe ASUU, the same lecturers that were in ASUU will move to CONUA and continue their agitation. Ngige isn't smart, to proscribe and register CONUA is tantamount to emptying kaikai into a bottle of Fanta.

Chai, see the way they turned things upside down for ASUU. Unfortunately, it's now a fight between the Federal govt and the body called ASUU. I do not think a body can fight against the govt and win...

God help Nigeria o.

Moreover, Ngige does not need this charade. After all, both him (FG) and ASSU are bird of a feather. Mad people.

Provosts and Deans will monitor if everything is going on as it should be.
That will determine if the lecturers will get half October salary.

Any disgruntled lecturer who victimises students will face disciplinary committee.

Nigerians against ASUU might not know what's coming their way until Federal government succeed in disbanding ASUU.

Re: Strike: FG Threatens ASUU With Contempt by Sirtee19: 8:24pm On Oct 08, 2022
FG may win this war, but they can never win the battle. Gone are the days of Dr Attahiru Jega (now Prof) led ASUU. ASUU was strong and unbeatable then, even in the face of military tyranny then. The three or four set of people Maradona fear then are ASUU, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, and Col. Umar of Kaduna.

That's needed
Even ASUU as a union will not be the same again.
In the past they've been embarking on strikes with the mindset that they have nothing to lose.

There are a few of you here who have no idea how universities are run, so I won't respond to your specific responses. Which universities were closed by ASUU? Could ASUU have done that? Four unions operate in universities, and three of them ended their strike last month, so either your Ngige is ignorant or he's playing to the “zombie” crowd. There was one guy who was abusing ASUU, and he has transferred to a private university. I would like to know how much school fees he pays? In the event that public universities begin to charge school fees, “una eyes go clear”.

So is strike the solution?
If it is, what do ASUU have to show for keeping students at home for 8 months?
What results have they achieved?
