Some of you in this forum are just commenting without deep taught, saying that lecturers should go and find another job is a useless talk. We already have brain drain in university system, if this government provoke them to leave. The problem we will be severed than what we experienced in medical sector. Though, we know it will not affect them because their children are studying abroad, so what ever happen to local education sector is of no concern to them. It has been advanced by many right thinking people that the government that want to apply no work no pay to ASUU turned blind eyes to NNPC refinery workers who have not been working for the past ten years, and are been paid with promotion as at when due. What kind of double standing is that in the same country. I seriously doubt it if hands the judges in this matter are not tide in this matter.

FG has been paying nnpc refinery workers for ten years without working.
Instead of you to admonish them to stop paying them, you rather want fg to extend such illegal payment to ASUU.
You must be a top ASUU advocate

Most of these people you engaged here are not using their brain at all. Instead of seeing that Buhari is destroying the University just like he has destroyed the economy they're instead blaming ASUU. Ignore them. Can you force lectures to teach after forcing them through fraudulent court injunction ( Buhari himself never obeys court order) to resume? Every other country in this world seeks to make their teachers at all levels happy. In Nigeria the govt is destroying education.
So ASUU embarking on strike is the solution to keep up with the quality of education right? You selfish niggaz went on strike for 9 months in 2020. Went on strike again for 8 months and counting this year and you still got nerves that FG wants to destroy our universities. The students waiting to graduate since last year are still hooked up in school in 2022 due to ASUUs agitations, Isn't that wickedness? Pray tell, what have ASUU done with the monies FG have given you guys in the past? Nothing worthy! Yet you come up with a sob story that FG wants to destroy our universities. If there's any union we can point to as the devil that wants to destroy our universities, it is ASUU. For making life so difficult for students and further making these students spend extra years, extra monies in school. Nonsense!

And you think CONUA is anything different from ASUU? Just give them time.
If FG proscribe ASUU, the same lecturers that were in ASUU will move to CONUA and continue their agitation. Ngige isn't smart, to proscribe and register CONUA is tantamount to emptying kaikai into a bottle of Fanta.

You will be surprised at how many unions will be registered. And membership will be distributed. This will break their backbone if you know history a little.

From then, it will be a free fall in the university. This is checkmate.

On Tuesday, ASSU will be in black cloth. It is dead end for them.

Don't let emotions override u, u want lecturers to be carry out research without providing enabling environment for them, common light some time u have to buy fuel for generator from that little salary that u are getting. If wishes are horses, beggars too will ride. Nigerian lecturers are one of the poorest paid in the world. Despite the way that academics in Nigerian public universities are handled, their research outputs are visible in the global research database. Like Prof Amoka said: If political office holders should make one-tenth of the efforts and sacrifices made by academics in our public universities, they will be celebrated as heroes in office.

Talking of funds

Despite the horrible condition of service of academics in the country, Nigerian academics are winning research grants. An Associate professor at Bayero University Kano recently received a research grant of £969,680 from Wellcome. A senior lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria recently won a research grant of about 48,000 USD from Geophysics Without Borders. Other researchers from the Federal University Dutse won a grant of $59,930 from The World Academy of Science (TWAS) and €220,801 from the African Academy of Science on renewable energy. These are just a few of the grants won by academics within the strike period.

Copied

I beg stop deceiving yourself Mr lecturer by hiding under conducive environment. How many of you even need stable light for research in the first place? The little semi-stable light available in most institutions, what do you do with it than to watch videos in your offices and switch ON AC and fans while sleeping with students to award marks? Which company wants to waste money funding your researches when majority of lecturers can't even conduct convincing researches that can attract funds and grants ?

You are not even ashame of yourself citing once in a while researches out more than 200 federal and state universities in the country. Can you imagine population of professors, doctors and research fellow lecturers in the country compare to the ratio of low accidental researches one or two lecturers stumble upon once in 5years? Justify little you are being paid first, many accidental researches some of you stumble upon don't normally lead to anywhere after company waste funds.

This is one of the reasons companies are reluctant to fund researches because many of the so called researches some of you stumble upon accidentally from student project are usually bait to waste funds. COVID-versine research that was funded from Nigeria university in 2020, how far about it? It has died down, it lead to no where, money wasted. How many Nigeria covid vacines promised are available now in local pharmacist stores?

Many equipment government purchased to teach students how many lecturers can even used those modern equipment to teach students when majority of lecturers never have industrial experiences in the first place? They only use equipment and chemical purchased by government to teach students only for accreditation. After departmental accreditation, they will pack those equipment and chemicals and keep again into store for another future accreditation. Many lecturers can not even supervise undergraduate project effectively because they don't even know it; many of you only use idea to criticise what you don't know.

Universities and polytechnics lecturers are the one recruiting unemployable students on yearly basis; many of them are only waiting for monthly salaries, they are never productive. 90% of lecturers should be lay off so we can use another technique to recruit competent lecturers. We should stop emphasizing only on academic qualification and number of journals written alone. Is not really making our schools to be functional. Let us combine industrial experience with it and let students also get involved in analyzing lecturers that can transfer knowledge to them.

Retaining first class students who never even attended SIWES or have industrial experience should never be allowed to teach. If you are brilliant but can not teach the dullest students to understand, they shouldn't hire such individual; he/she should be tried if he/she will fit into research, otherwise, never employed such person into our academic system. Many things I can't write here, all those professors that can't transfer their knowledge to younger generations via simple teaching and without even tangible active research should be lay off.

Why is ASUU telling it's employers what platform they want to be paid with? How can I pay someone, and the person chooses how much I pay them, and what platform they want the payment. Only in Nigeria this kind of rascality is permitted.

I support this move by Ngige and the FG should be prepared to replace any mumu lecturer found wanting or not discharging their duties well.

What exactly is their problem? Went in strike for 9 months in 2020 and they still got paid for those months. Went on strike again 2022 for over 8 months and counting and they still want to be paid 8 months salaries as usual but I'm happy FG is calling their bluff to deal with them. No union is allowed to be a pain in the as$ of the people and government anywhere in the world.

The students have lost 8 months of their lives for ASUUs agitations, they also lost 8 months out of the rents they've paid in their respective campuses, that's enough sacrifice anyone could make yet ASUU doesn't want to sacrifice anything not even their salaries and instead, they're here threatening they won't lecture and using students as blackmail cos they won't be receiving the free 8 months salaries they looked forward to. FG should be prepared to fire any lecturer that as much as not carry out his/her duties well. Nonsense.
ASUU was trying to force govt to sign all their demands. They think because of electionaring period the govt would want to act to agree to all their demands as it has been in the past administration.

Jonathan administration is corrupt and you know that. He knows it's good to fulfill the agreement but he failed because to him the money is huge. Answer these questions...
Is that money up to the money laundering levied against Alison Madueke who is now a citizen of another country? Why did she seek citizenship in another country and abandoned her motherland?
Is that money up to the $20billion (4trillion naira as of then) Sanusi, the former CBN Governor exposed that was not remitted to CBN by NPPC before he was fired by the same Jonathan?
Our politicians only care about milking our country dry. Forget about fighting for the students, fight the right cause and all this will fall in place....

Last questions for you, pls answer them:
Why is the public holders children schooling abroad? if they are to school in our local schools, will their fathers allow this strike linger?

Na today ASUU dey embark on strike? So because the present govt disagree to assent to the demand they can't fulfilled like we have been having in the past administration. Anytime ASUU sees election is around the corner they will embark on strike to press for unrealistic demand. That govt that know how important the election is, would rush to sign and later reneged. This administration is even sincere and deserve a Kudos for telling the union the truth unlike past administration. ASUU would be disgraced this time around because ( Yoruba adage says "ti a ba pe lori imin eesin keesin a ma Bani" meaning, if we stay too long on a poo different kind of flies fly around us) those that are supporting this strike are haters of this present administration and all their wish for the nation is to be seeing things falling apart. God will put all the enemies of this nation into shame because of their wishful thinking to their nation. The union ruined the whole one session of the students and still want govt to pay them for doing nothing!

and the case will keep on being postponed until the new government is formed and new minister of labour employed most likely next year October

before the final verdict is given ( so as not to give room for strike against an outgoing government)

trust court in judgement postponing

if they call off the strike, it’ll most likely be till next year October before they can “legally” go on another one
