Ranking of states by Internally Generated Revenue (2021)

According to NBS’ report, the 36 states and the FCT recorded N1.56 trillion of IGR in 2020.

This means that the 2021 figure (N1.89 trillion) indicates a positive growth of 22 percent year-on-year, after the coronavirus pandemic impacted revenue generation the previous year.

Futher analysis by TheCable Index shows that Lagos state has the highest IGR with N753.3 billion, representing 40 percent of the total IGR in 2021.

Lagos is followed by FCT with N131.9 billion; Rivers state, N123.3 billion; Ogun state, N100.7 billion; and Delta state, N80.2 billion.

Yobe state, on the other hand, generated the least IGR (N8.5 billion) in 2021, followed by Taraba with N9.6 billion, Gombe with N10.6 billion and Katsina with N12 billion.

IGR by zones in 2021 shows that the south-west zone recorded the highest revenue, totalling N972.6 billion; followed by the south-south zone with N313.6 billion, while the north-east zone recorded the least internally generated revenue with N78.3 billion.

The report also shows that Lagos state generated 77 percent of the entire IGR of the south-west.

Thank you NBS

I think the amount allocated to Lagos is wrong. Dangote has been doing a lot of business and paying so much tax to Lagos government, the money should be deducted and given to Kano before hunger finish hi brothers up north grin

A whole Kano, with over 10 million people in population is doing only 40 billion with Edo sitting on top of Kano, looking over its head grin

Bini no dey carry last abeg

South west #972 billion
North West #174 billion Only?
Haba, upon all the landmass, and small South west is still beating them silly? grin

Lagos should just buy over Yobe state grin

Proudly Lagosian grin grin grin

Omo El-Rufai try for Kaduna o.

I can see you Dapo Abiodun. Wike the wicked sight you.

By the way, how do state close the enormous gap Lagos is leading the remaining top 5 states with?

God bless Lagos.
God bless Nigeria.

See another bitter IPOB illiterate. It is a loan which CBN secured for Lagos through other banks. It is not charity because Lagos will pay it back.

Only God know why all these illeterates are mentioning me today. is that you?

Why is it that IPOB terrorists generally are bitter people?

Lagos recorded that high lead and instead of at least commending the government on the topic, you had to smuggle Tinubu in to show your bitterness.

The lunatic Obi the fugitive that governed Anambra couldn’t set up a clear path for the state revenue to grow which led to Soludo borrowing over 100billion in his first 100 days as governor.

USA is the most indebted country in the world, yet they are the number one economy in the world. Loans does not neccessarily mean you are doing bad, it is what you do with the loans that matter.

In Lagos, we are building light rail, something your Igbo governors right from Azikiwe days never dared achieved. We attracted refineries, deep seaports, and etc. while your people continue to hate and hate and hate.

What has your hate led you to?

Lagos state is a country of its own, so I won't talk about it.

But Ogun state alone more than the combination of Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi.

Kaduna and kano also more than same 5 states

Even Borno far ahead of Abia and Ebonyi while imo and kebbi are dragging the last position.

But on social media, they will tell you they are feeding the nation. Choi, nawao.

Kebbi, Yobe, Kastina and Gombe states should be cut off from Nigeria, they are unproductive always depending on Federal allocation

It's not only Lagos State that makes use of alpha beta. Some eastern and northern states uses them.

We don’t even need other states to use Alpha Beta to know it is a success story.

Since it was introduced, Lagos revenue keep soaring which is what we needed from it.

If the lying braggart Obi could go on TV to commend himself for investing state money in his personal business, why must we defend the rationale behind giving Alphabeta service fee for collecting the taxes?

Anyone that is not happy with it should relocate to his state where they won’t have Alpha Beta to collect the taxes.

Thanks for this...In addition, the more loan you have shows you are credit worthy...Creditors are always willing to do business with you... Infact they will be begging you because they know you have the means to pay back..

We should encourage true fedralism. It would make many state governors sit tight instead of waiting on freebies.

SW without crude oil still leading the IGR table.

Personally, I believe Ogun state is underperforming.

I work in a LGN gas distribution company and I knw the list of companies we supply increase on a daily basis but we need to do more.

Ogun state should be leading Lagos in industrialization.

Kutos to SW
Kudos to patriotic Nigerians

I think it is time we understood that there are limits to what a governor can actually add to the economic prosperity of his state.

A few billions here and there.

The IGR of most states is based on natural resources and infrastructural concentration in those states before now.

Even if the governor of Yobe state is a magician, he can never increase the state IGR to 50b.

Enjoy if your state is well positioned, but let's be logical in comparison and criticisms.
