PRESIDENT JONATHAN SAYS ATTACK ON UN BUILDING IS AN ASSAULT ON GLOBAL PEACE AND SECURITY
by Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:38am

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria utterly condemn the barbaric, senseless and cowardly attack on the United Nation’s Building in Abuja this morning.

The President believes that the attack is a most despicable assault on the United Nations’ objectives of global peace and security, and the sanctity of human life to which Nigeria wholly subscribes.

He extends his sincere condolences to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon and all members of the United Nations family who have lost loved ones in the heinous attack.

President Jonathan reaffirms the Federal Government’s total commitment to vigorously combat the incursion of all forms of terrorism into Nigeria, and wishes to reassure all Nigerians and the international community that his Administration will spare no effort to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The President has also directed all relevant government agencies to assist in the search and rescue effort at the UN Building, and ordered heightened security across the Federal Capital Territory.

He urges all Nigerians to cooperate fully with the government in its efforts to expose the desperate elements who promote violence, terrorism and division in the country.

While noting that by today’s attack, we are once again reminded of the international character of terrorism and its indiscriminate targeting of innocent civilians, President Jonathan affirms Nigeria’s determination to continue to play its part in the global effort to eradicate the scourge of terrorism in all its ramifications.

He urges all Nigerians and foreigners resident in the country to go about their normal affairs with the full assurance that the Federal Government and its law enforcement agencies will continue working diligently to ensure the full protection of lives and property in the country.

Okay we hear you Presidency.

Now get back to work and start remaking this nation. Or else, they will be coming after those on the hills!

UN to some extent are agents of the west to control "black Africa monkeys". Is there anything tangible they have done for Niaja or Africa in general? They are only there to protect their interest jare.

My prayers are with the innocent ones caught up in collateral damage.

Hmmmmm, Medicine after death. The best thing for GEJ to do is to look into the problem of unemployement, people are Hungry and Angry with the Govt.Expect More bombs in Days to come, Nigerian are not stupid

Before he released the press release; nairalanders have already posted exactly what is expected from the glueless GEJ and his 'advisers' and it is not different from what Dr Abati just released.

So whats the point in his release when we could easily predict the format and contents of the usual press release?

Next time be careful of what you say. NATO is killing Africans in Libya and all you could do after signing the so called UN resolution of a 'NO FLY ZONE' which was violated by US led NATO is to recognise the rebels and ask Gadafi to step down (a man more popular than you in Northern Nigeria).
The UN is an imperialist tool used to steal resources from Africa and they come back to give us aid through their agencies such as WHO, UNICEF, WFP etc after intentionally inpoverishing the continent.

The UN is busy giving access to American, France, Britain, EU to steal Libyan money and assets under the guise of 'FROZEN FUNDS' and you offer them credility in their criminality by recognising their rebel creation.

Speeches or promises don't solve problems, action does. Hasn't the Boko Haram problem been around long enough to receive some serious attention and action?

Again, this is why we say that the best of us should be our leaders. Governance is not for the weak or lily-livered.

Dear presdo, since you are the only president in the whole wide world that have no enemies to fight which means the perpetrators of this act are still your friends, when you will sit up is when NATO countries start controlling half of the country you are ruling.

Please Oga Jona where are the perpetrators of October 1st bombing ?
Re: President Jonathan's Official Statement On UN Building Bomb Blast by Serendipity: 4:57pm On Aug 26, 2011
Why don't Nigeria allow this people to secede. I mean, let them go!

Is western education by force? Or what was that they said it's their problem self?
Since they have chosen to be recalcitrant and unregenerate.
They have no natural resources, manpower, name it, they have got absolutely nothing.
At least the Easterners were prevented from doing so in the late 60's owing to the counsel given to Gowon-- that they have the greater percentage of Nigeria's natural resources.
Please let them go, they have little or nothing to contribute to this country.
And I guess Buhari and co just want to be distracting Jonathan and make him discomfited.
Balderdash!
May the souls of those killed rest in peace.

Please, folks. Leave Mr. President alone. Jonathan is not Nigerias problem.

Let us sit down and negotiate Nigeria. We can split in peace or wait till its war.
Re: President Jonathan's Official Statement On UN Building Bomb Blast by Depointer1: 5:06pm On Aug 26, 2011
I wonder why the President himself can not make a press statement himself. In other countries you ll see the president answering questions and assuring people of the solution and how the perpetrators will be brought to book, but GEJ will always hid his head under Patience's wrapper while others like Abatti or the likes of Okonjo doing his job for him.

Anyway, about the UN. Are they not the one that witness the election and concluded that it's the best Nigeria ever had? They too can smell the fresh air brought to them by their loyalist GEJ (PDP). Business as usual sad sad .

Al Qaeda in action. If GEJ doesn't do anything to nip this northern radicalism/terrorism in the bud, the northern section of Nigeria (Abuja inclusive) will be toppled by Al Qaeda and Boko Haram members

Why does the president remain adrift, leaving a media publicist to provide an official response, at a time like this?
Now I am not suggesting that hearing words of condemnation from him, directly, changes anything, but precisely what is required to make this president act presidential in times of crisis?

By this he is reaffirming the assertions that he is weak. I half expected that he would do something "unpresidential"  like this. smh

Daft.

Where was George Bush (and for how many days) after 911? Find that out and you would have learnt a thing or two about how such matters are dealt with. Find out also about when David Camerons first words came out after the recent burning and looting in his country.

Citizens, take 'intel' to the police. FG should also revamp the police cos people are afraid of getting arrested for giving information! GEJ wanted to clear boko haram in borno, but some 'elders' said NO! whatelse do you people want this man to do? Arrest atiku and IBB? So that some 'activists' will come and shout:' impeach him, he has disobeyed the constitution'. I just wonder where we are headed o, if the country will disintegrate, let it happen!

the same assurance he gave when some youth corp members were killed after the post election violence, up til now nothing has been said again concerning that even the panel that was set up to report back never did. we are sick and tired of this same piece of shit . GEJ is too weak to run this country. IGP and other top security officials/advisers should be retired, i don't see any reason why they should still sit in office and get paid heavily for nothing.
Re: President Jonathan's Official Statement On UN Building Bomb Blast by Bawss1(m): 5:48pm On Aug 26, 2011
I wouldn't expect the president to say anything different from what he has just said. What I expect, however, is that he matches his words with appropriate action. We have heard it all before, heck this is about the fifth time that GEJ is making such 'assurances', what has changed since he made the first of this kind of statement?

Come on GEJ, you've got to step up your game. Apparently whatever you are doing isn't working.
Re: President Jonathan's Official Statement On UN Building Bomb Blast by Koolking(m): 5:51pm On Aug 26, 2011
Security in Nigeria is embarrasingly porous. Not until the Policing system is holistically overhauled, we will continue to chase shadows, waste resources. Corruption in the system has to be nibbed in the bud. Security will remain a mirage if there is no seamless relationship between the Security agents (especially the Police) and the Nigerian society - the citizens.

Boko Haram's threat is far too simple to infiltrate. It is a group threat and not a solo threat. Solo threat is complex to trace. These people (Boko Haram) are not phantoms but flesh and full-blooded Nigerians like others.

our secuity agents seems to be their own problem. They are just clueless. And how would they function effectively when the people they suppose to rely on for information are the same people they bastadise, maim and abuse and commit all sort of atrocities against. People no longer have confident in our security agents because they have been able to alienate themselves from the people. People believe the Police are the problems of the Nigerian Society.

I keep saying until the lost glory of Policing is restored. Police beginning to treat the citizens (tax payers) as friends - not by word or mere graffiti on their walls but actions and deeds. effective security in this part of the world will still remain a dream.
