Need some contributions, what do you think?

1. Why do men keep concubines/mistresses?
2. Is it possible for these men to eat their cake and have it?
3. Does this usually lead to polygamy?
4. Are children born out of concubinage recognised by law?

If you have facts (constitutional sections, actual law cases etc), please state.

to keep body and soul together. . .

2. Is it possible for these men to eat their cake and have it?

of course. . . .i always eat my cake and have it.
i am guessing most men do as well.

3. Does this usually lead to polygamy?

not in most cases.
most men won't marry their girlfriends/concubines. . . .they shall remain as bed partners for life.

4. Are children born out of concubinage recognised by law?

it depends.
if the man's name is included in his birth certificate then he's a legitimate child
if the man includes him the child's name in his will, he will also be seen as a legit child.
however, this can go into dispute but a simple dna test should clear all doubts.

not applicable! cheesy grin

1. Why do men keep concubines/mistresses?

because they do not want to accord such women the status of wives.

2. Is it possible for these men to eat their cake and have it?

in what way? Explain.

3. Does this usually lead to polygamy?

in africa, it does, most of the time, unless the man's culture does not allow polygamy.

4. Are children born out of concubinage recognised by law?

if the man acknowledges them either publicly or by dna.

if you are asking because of inheritance issues, then i think they are recognized in african culture.

dictionary definition of concubine:

a woman who is a mistress to a man . . . who cannot be married to her because of a difference in social status.

http://www.yourdictionary.com/concubine

the reason why men actively seek to have concubines is because by making a woman one, her social status remains below his own.

she becomes or remains inferior to him.
