[size=13pt]FG to Activate All Abandoned Dams[/size]

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday decided to maximise Nigeria’s power generation through the reactivation of all hydro dams and fast-tracking implementation of the gas master plan to ensure availability of gas to power the plants already nearing completion.

There are dams in Gombe, Osun, Kano and Katsina that can generate considerable megawatts of electricity but are waiting for turbines to be installed.

Briefing State House correspondents, Information Minis-ter Labaran Maku said the council deliberated on the report of the Presidential Projects Assessment Commit-tee, headed by Ibrahim Bunu.

He explained that they concentrated on how to achieve stability in power within the lifespan of the Goodluck Jonathan administration.Maku said that the committee had noted in their report submitted a few months ago that there were many dams across the country and that their hydro generating capacity would add a lot of power to the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP).

He explained that it was discovered that gas supply to the power plants posed the greatest problem to stability, but he was quick to add that the Gas Master Plan would on implementation address the problem when the Ministry of Power synchronises their work agenda with that of Ministry of Petroleum.

It is either they are workaholics or they are lying their ways to infamy. They are all over the place. Gas, turbine, coal, solar, nuclear , untill they remember they have not biult the necessary pipelines or coal mines which will take years though they keep telling us that everything is near 80% completed. I hope there is a master-plan. At the moment it sounds like somebody swings "right-round" 60 times, then swings "left round" another 30 times, makes an abrupt stop, hits his head with his clenched fist and whatever comes out from his mouth thereafter is policy. Clifford Orji will do better. And what is it with activating all dams, all universities in every state, all airports in every state, all this and that, all in PAPER! Haba! Politics has always been a scam for lots of politicians but do they need to shove this fact down our throats?

I hope the dam workers are taught the importance of constantly monitoring water levels in order to prevent sudden releases of water and bursting dams that have led to avoidable floods and the preventable loss of lives and property.

But, is Kainji dam still used to generate electricity?

Exactly my point, promises without commensurate actions.

Promises upon promises. anyway we all are in this country. we shall see.
However, the govt also need to focus on transmission and not only generation. Even the present power being generated is currently not being properly transmitted.

The performance of this government will make or break the country. At the end of this administation the population of the country will be 180 million people.

Many people must be engaged one way or the other. Provision of electricity will help alot on this.

Nigerian government will win award for best promises without fulfilling anything. Everyday master plan this, blue print that, comprehensive approach. In all nothing to show. Talking and praising themselves on NTA. In 1988 Nigeria produced 7200MW of electricity then, now we are struggling to maintain 4000MW. What a shame!

Thats all we hear in the news!! Funny enough we always hear when FG and States start or intend to start something, but we never hear when they finish them, cos they are never finished.

Interestingly, this was the very same plan GMB spelt out in the presidential campaign which people failed to realize was the cheapest way to go. Unfortunately we have an ineffective President whose mantra is too much talk and no action. In other words, I'll treat news such as these as one of those loud mouthed noise coming from the GEJ camp.
