Contrary to what the Emefiele apologists would like you to believe, he is not in fact at the beck and call of Buhari. The CBN is statutorily independent: once Buhari appointed Emefiele to a second term, he lost any real control over what Emefiele could or should do. As such, any decision by Emefiele to go along with Buhari's preferences would simply have been due to a lack of backbone on Emefiele's part, not because the law compelled him to do so.

The conclusion, given the unique convocation of Nigerian governance, is very simple. I.e Nigerian leaders are corrupt dictators with vested interest yet it is left to their appointees with integrity to defy them, when the agenda of their employer is bad for the interest of Nigeria, or resign.
