Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has flagged off an internal security out-fit christened “Operation Rescue’’ which was launched recently in Owerri, the Imo State capital with a total of one hundred security vehicles to ensure effective community policing the State.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Sir Jude Agbaso during the flag-off ceremony held at Government House, Owerri, said that ‘’Operation Rescue’’ is aimed at combating crimes in the State, adding that outfit is anchored on a combined team of the Nigerian Police, Army and State Security Service whose job will be to patrol within and around all the communities in Imo State.

Earlier in a speech, the Commander of 34 Field Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Brig-Gen A.I.G. Danpome expressed delight over governor Okorocha’s security initiatives which he described as adequate and called on the governor to back-up the security vehicles with good logistics such as digital communications equipment for effective fighting of crime in the State.

Speaking also, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammade Abudullahi indicated that his command is ready to reduce crime in the State to a zero level, adding that his men have commenced vigilance exercises aimed at combating criminal activities and urged members of the public to partner with the team by giving vital information to the Police.

Adding his voice, the Director of State Security Service, Mr Sam Kalama described “Operation Rescue” as an integrated system of security which would enable his Command to respond effectively and efficiently to security matters. According to him, the security vehicles will be stationed at strategically places in the State.
