Human rights activist and legal practitioner, Mr Femi Fslana, has called on the Osun State Government to re-open prosecution of killers of former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige (SAN).
Falana made this call on Tuesday while speaking in Lagos at a lecture to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Ige’s assassination titled “The International Criminal Court and its Role in fighting against impunity.”
He condemned the police investigation of the murder and also the government of the day as at December 23, 2011 when Ige was murdered.

“I want to commend Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State for instructing his Attorney-General to re-open cases of crimes committed in the last 10 years. I want the case file of Chief Bola Ige to be re-opened and Osun State be allowed to investigate and prosecute the matter,” he said.

He lamented that the killers of the late AGF were never brought to justice.
“The chief suspect in the crime was made a senator while investigation was going on and the then president of Nigeria came on television to say that every accused person is presumed innocent until he is convicted.

Three days after the killing, the police commissioner of Oyo State said they have apprehended the killer but later called a press conference to say that the man is deranged, the man was never shown. Suspects were arrested but it was clearly a prosecution designed to fail.
“Remember a suspect who had confessed that he was offered N50million to commit the crime later recanted what he had said. We are demanding for the trial of Chief Ige’s killers. If they are not willing to do it. The ICC is there,” he said.

Falana noted that over 20000 people have been killed in the last 12 years through extrajudicial killings. He asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor to investigate the Jos killings.
In addition, the called on the ICC to be fair and credible by prosecuting Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister and George Bush former American President who he said, committed worse crimes than any African leader.
In the same vein, leading senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Niyi Akintola called for a Truth Commission to e established to investigate and make public the mystery surrounding the death of Ige.

“Imagine a star witness with the main suspect in the same cell. On the day Fryo would recant, he was clutching a bible and saying he was being threatened so we held his hands and prayed with him. He shot us in the heart when he recanted. We should have a Truth Commission to unravel the death of Uncle Bola Ige so that some of us can tell the public what we faced during and after the trial. At least, there is circumstantial evidence,”Akintola said.

However, Ekiti state governor, Doctor Kayode FAyemi opined that the perpetrators of the crime would have their conscience pricked when his followers gather to mourn him every year even if they are not tried.
“In addition to going after the criminals, we should make available the legacy of Chief Bola Ige. Every time they see us gathering together their conscience will prick them,” Fayemi said.

Other notable speakers at the anniversary include vice president of the International Criminal Court of Justice in Hague, Justice Akua Kuenyehia; former Osun state governor Chief Bisi Akande; OSun state governor, RAuf Aregbesola; Mrs Maryam Uwais and; family members of the late AGF which include Muyiwa Ige, Tokunbo Ige and Funso Adegbola

They should have used Soyinka investigative journalism to smoke out the killers, instead of wasting their time on other issues that does not call for their attention.

Where Do We Get Our Days of the Week?

Human beings have been measuring time by the stars for centuries. Traditionally, seven celestial objects were used for marking the days: the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn.

You can see the evidence of this in Romance languages, where the names for the days of the week are derived from the name of the celestial body. In turn, the celestial bodies got their names from Roman Gods. In English, however, all of the names of our weekdays are derived from Nordic gods, with one exception.

Sunday
Jewish law made this the first day of the week, although officially, international calendars consider Monday the start of the week. It’s interesting to note that no century begins on a Sunday in the Gregorian calender and that “Friday the Thirteenth” only occurs in months that begin with a Sunday.

In Old English, it was called Sunnendaeg meaning “day of the sun”. Members of the Christian faith take Sunday as their ‘Sabbath’ or “day of rest”.

Monday
Many cultures consider Monday to be the first day of the week. In the Islamic faith and Judaism, Monday is considered a good day for fasting. The name comes from the Old English for “day of the moon”. In Romance languages like French and Spanish, the name for Monday is derived from the Latin word for “moon”, which was luna. Hence the French have lundi and Spanish-speakers have lunes.

Tuesday
Tuesday derives from the Middle English Tiwes daeg, which comes from the Nordic word for “day of Tyr”. Tyr was the Nordic equivalent of the Roman god of war, called Mars. For this reason, Tuesday is called mardi in French and martes in Spanish,

Wednesday
The Anglo Saxon god Oden is responsible for the word “Wednesday”. He was called wandering Odin and so his day came to be known as Wednes daeg. Romance languages call this day after the Roman god Mercury. Hence, the word miercoles in Spanish.

Thursday
Thor was the Nordic god of Thunder. His equivalent in Roman mythology was Jupiter also known as Jove. Which is why Thor’s day in English is jeudi, giovedi and Jovdio in French, Italian and Ido, respectively.

Friday
Friday is named for the goddess of love, Venus. The Anglo-Saxon word was Frigdaeg which is from the Germanic name for “day of Venus”. Hence the Spanish viernes, the Romanian vineri and the Italian venerdi. In most Indian languages, the name for Friday comes from Shukra, the name for the planet Venus.

Saturday
This is the only day of the week in the English language that is directly named for a Roman god. Saturday is named for Saturn. It is the Shabbat of the Jews and the Thai people associate it with the color purple.

Everyone does not have a seven day week. Ancient Egypt and China both used 10 day weeks. The Igbo people in Nigeria use a four day week and the ancient Maya used twelve days. Today, the names of the weekdays flash by in a blur, but if we stop and consider them, we might recognize thier significance. They hearken back to a period when mankind had time to sit and observe the stars.

This is Yoruba in inhumanity on Yoruba. The killers and their sponsors are not from any other region than SW. So they should not look beyond there Yoruba states in finding the supposed assassins and there paymasters.

And your backyard is a bed of roses, i guess. That probably explains why you lot refuse to stay in your " heavenly

backyard"
even when your antagonists are lobing off your heads to appease their God, you guys still refuse to stay in your fabulous

region. So all the problems you listed above are non-existent in your region?
