obailala: This project is a rather stupid project and economically will make Nigeria lose. The Russian pipeline to Germany(which we are trying to model) allows Russia to supply gas to all the countries where the pipeline passes through and then to Germany. Asides that these countries are paid for the pipe passing through them. Where is the economic sense of passing a pipeline from Nigeria to Europe via Niger and Algeria, who are also oil and gas producing countries? In all logic they are also competitors to Nigeria. Also Nigeria will still pay them for the pipes passing their countries as well. Invariably we will be the losing party if this pipeline goes through. Unless it is the usual lies and propaganda the APC government is known for. Any reasonable Economist who means we'll for Nigeria will rather opt for an undersea pipeline from Nigeria to Morocco, linking Europe via Spain. But because of greed they want it to go through the north because in the PIB any pipeline or oil facility built anywhere makes that place a designated oil producing community. If it is through the sea to Morocco which is the best, it is Niger delta communities that would benefit not the north. 1 Like |

Nolevel666:We're talking natural gas, not LPG (cooking gas); but that's even by the way. Nigeria earning more revenue translates to an improvement in the economy. If the economy improves, there will be more jobs and more money in the pocket of the 'common man'; purchasing power of the common man increases and so does his standard of living. 1 Like |

Stoplying:Lol... you just shot yourself with your own analogy.... If I sell biscuits and the demand is higher than the stock that I have, and I have a neighbour who has high stock but can't sell, the next most intelligent thing a businessman would do is to PARTNER with that his neighbour so that business can keep moving. There's no wisdom in fighting a person you should be partnering with for mutual benefit; the Algerian government is certainly not fighting with Nigeria on this one but is rather deeply vested in the project because they stand to gain from it too. Even Morocco that also has interconnector pipelines to Europe have been trying to partner with Nigeria to connect a pipeline through their country too. Meanwhile, on your last statement; how exactly does Nigeria selling its gas to Europe for good income translate to us being slaves of the west? What does that even mean?... This is a project that has been planned since the 1970's, but why do I feel some of you just come up with these arguments because you feel a compulsion to oppose anything done by the government? |

obailala: You are ignorant of your ignorance Why is the Naira not part of. "forex" Selling gas to Europe will not help Nigeria We get more forex from Diaspora Nigerians in one year than we do from gas in 10 years We need to use gas in Nigeria at the same levell or higherl than those countries that buy our gas. EVEN BANGLADESH uses more gas than us. we should Not invest in selling more to them while our people cut down trees to use as cooking fuel 1 Like |

Believeintruth:Lol... You guys are unbelievable! So you sit behind your computer and based on a 2-3 paragraph report you read, you think you now know more than enough to speak on the economic feasibility of a project that has been planned since the 70's? ...You think the people who concieved and planned the project 50 years ago, and the people who have decided to proceed on the project are fools that they didnt run an economic feasibility study before commencing the project? You asked what's the benefit of passing a pipeline through Niger and Algeria because they're oil producng countries; what do you knw about oil and gas economics?... Do those countries have enough gas to meet up to 20% of Europe's demand?.... You say a subsea pipeline to Europe would be better; do you have the slightest clue how much a mile of subsea pipeline cost? Yet you want to alternatively run a subsea pipline which would be at least 3 time the length and at least 5 times the cost of an onshore pipeline, all because you don't want the pipeline running through the north of Nigeria or through Niger? What's really wrong with some of you? Why must you always allow emotions and ethnic/political sentiments drive every argument you make? |

obailala: Again you are not a smart person to see that Nigeria will have to charge more per cubit feet of gas that they will pump via these countries to Europe. Why because they will pay these countries for the gas passing through theor countries per cubic feet. In an economic sense the pricing for Nigeria's gas coming from that pipeline will not be competitive at all. The cheapest option which will guarantee maximum returns is from Bayelsa or Warri coastline to Morocco then to Spain via Gibraltar. The cost out lay is cheaper and we will get maximum value. Mind you the pipe like goes from Kano, through Agadez and Tamnaraset in Algeria then to Europe. Agadez to Tamnaraset are rough spots for ISWAP, Boko Haram and Tuareg rebels that pipe will always be attacked on a regular especially by extremists who seek to cripple a country's economic base. That is why Late Justic Oputa said Nigerians are incapable of deep thought. You just confirmed it, all because you want to defend a stupid agenda from the government. |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by Babysho(m): 11:41am On Jul 08, 2023 |
obailala: I take it that you donât read books on human evolution and Africa as well is why you think building a pipe is the same as food. All I see you say is earn earn earn, be selfish and that was the epoch of capitalism in this world. If you have oil and pipes and I have food, I can inflate the price of my food so it appears like food that grows on its own in all lands and oil that is a luxury that requires several processes are of the same value. To buy my food, you therefore, have to reduce the value of your oil to shitttt to meet your food needs and thatâs the story of Nigeria today and why we canât join BRICS. I really hope people like you do not aspire to be leaders in the near future because you donât read the important African books only those âHow to be a millionaire in 5 daysâ books. |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by obailala(m): 11:46am On Jul 08, 2023 |
Babysho:No lets try that again cos your analogy is flawed. You have FOOD only, while I have OIL and GAS and FOOD. Kindly explain to me how you'd inflate the price of your food to me when I also have food? Like I said in my previous post, a poor man thinks of only his next meal, while a wealthy person thinks of how to sustain the next generation. A poor man thinks of hiw to grow food to feed his family, a rich mind thinks beyond just food. |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by Babysho(m): 11:51am On Jul 08, 2023 |
obailala:Obviously, doing both would be great! But itâll cost a lot to do both. In the event where we had to pick one (which was our initial argument), your opinion was suggesting oil and pipes over agriculture and I strongly disagreed. |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by Babysho(m): 12:02pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
obailala: lol you donât even understand the philosophy behind your last paragraph and you keep bringing it up. A wealthy man is one that can feed his family that they even get fat. We in Nigeria are not wealthy yet. Tell me a country that is top ten in the world THAT HAS ARABLE LAND and doesnât invest heavily in agriculture. USA, China, Russia even India are top producers. 54% of the land in Netherlands is used for agriculture despite having gas and itâs only natural according to evolution. Africa is starving because African countries with the arable land are digging the soil for everything but food. The foundation of your argument is very questionable and like I said itâs a selfish worldview based on capitalist ejaculations. 1 Like |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by obailala(m): 12:04pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
Babysho:I don't have to pick one when i can do both. The big question is, of the 2 choices, which of them can pay off it's loan faster?... Nigeria already has pure natural gas which is currently being burnt away as flares. Nigeria currently burns away almost $1billion in gas annually which can pretty quickly be trapped as revenue... Developing agriculture is important, but I don't believe it's a good enough reason to abandon otehr viable income earners. Babysho:Those countries you mention will never abandon a readily available income generator like gas in their quest for developing agriculture. Agriculture is important, but again and again, that is not a reason you shouldn't grab other low hanging fruits.... Those countries will gladly use the money generated from the gas to develop their agricultural sector, they wouldn't abandon oil and gas in search of food! |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by obailala(m): 12:32pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
Believeintruth:Justice Oputa was actually right, a lot of Nigerians are incapable of deep thought, that explains why you only view the viability of a subsea pipeline only from the 'potentially higher profit' point of view, but appear to be blind to the prohibitive capital costs, despite all my explanations. Again I ask, do you know how much it cost to build a mile of subsea pipeline?... The longest subsea pipeline in the world is just over 1200 km long, but somehow you think NIgeria can pull off a 6000+ km subsea pipeline to Europe? Where will the money come from? You keep repeating that Nigeria would pay for passing a pipeline through other countries; you think the people who worked the economic feasibility of the project are fools that they didnt factor the royalties/rent into the operational cost of the pipeline? ... And then again, there's a need to develop local infrastructure (pipelines) for gas utilisation within Nigeria. So what is wrong if we build a gas pipeline that passes northern Nigeria? From your last statement it's obvious that your anti-government sentiments is clouding your objectivity! ...Quit dropping opinions on subjects you're ignorant about all because you feel a compulsion to criticise and rubbish everything done by government. This project has been in the books for a very long time (possibly before you were even born); it is definitely a welcome development! |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by Babysho(m): 12:49pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
obailala: Thatâs a whole different discussion as youâd have to give me realistic details on how you want to fund both projects. The topic is NNPCL to construct another gas pipeline only and youâre in support and Iâm saying Iâd rather we focus on Agriculture with that money. These countries were well established in agriculture, some using our kind as slaves on plantations years before embarking on oil exploration. You appear like a breathing symptom and possibly victim of exploitative capitalism and youâre allowed to have your opinion. I reckon knowledge on economic evolution and African history would have served you greatly. If you think this is the way, great then! Enjoy purchasing food items in dollars or food inflation. |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by Believeintruth: 3:55pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
obailala: Oga I hate people like you that want to spin every lie to satisfy your view. You want to use my comment where I quoted justice Oputa to gaslight me whereas it is your malicious deliberate attempt to deceive the people is what I am saying. No reasonable government that wants to consider economic and energy security will take the northern route, because apart from the fact that the countries in that route are competitors that would be at a better advantage than us, mind you Algeria and France are allies and would use these countries to ring fence us to get cheap gas, while we sell at a very low value in the market, this is one aspect you have refused to see. Again that pipe at the northern route which is situated in a very insecure and unstable Sahel region is a very bad idea. First of all that area has rebels that are heavily armed by foreign powers who would love to take out that pipeline to influence policy against us. Again you are talking about cost of subsea pipeline. Even if you add the opportunity cost of using the subsea option to Morocco as against the northern route, it is the best option because adding the costs would still make us have a price that is fair to Europe for gad sales. Again you have failed to think deeply to see this option. You are busy talking about the propaganda of creating new jobs. If the pipeline is not profitable these benefits are meaningless. |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by obailala(m): 4:38pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
Believeintruth:Oga what are you on about? Who am I trying to deceive with my opinion? My views are strictly what I believe is most pragmatic and best for a poor developing country like Nigeria. My views aren't influenced by any ethnic, tribal or political sentiments; but rather are driven purely by a desire to see an improved economy. Irrespective of who the president is, I would applaud whatever I think is a good develpment without nonsense sentiments. Regarding the profitability of the pipeline, kindly leave that economic decision for experienced and knowledgeable experts who are exposed to better info and relevant data to make those calls. The people who did the economic feasibility studies on the trans-saharan gas pipeline aren't fools like you think. Returning to your "Algeria is our competitor" obsession; Algeria has a massive gas reserve, but they still cant meet European demand. Algeria is more than happy to partner with Nigeria in the gas business because a mutual partnership benefits them more than mutual enmity. You say Algeria is an ally of France; but France will not be stupid enough to sabotage it's own gas supply; they would rather bomb Algeria than have them as a stumbling block to European gas supply. Algeria is happy to have the trans-saharan gas pipeline routed through their country because they will be getting some revenue from it. Even Morocco is scheming night and day trying to make deals for Nigeria to route a pipeline through their country for similar economic gain, but you're here postulating that Algeria would block the pipeline? Your assumptions are patently wrong! |

Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by obailala(m): 4:47pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
Stoplying:But the logic you tried to bring up was flawed wasnt it? You have a shop in which you sell biscuits. The demand is higher than what you can supply. You have a neighbour who has excess in stock, but doesnt know how to sell it. As a businessmen, what will you do? Would you look for a way to pull down and destroy your neighbour's business, or will you find a way to partner with them for mutual benefit?... Unfortunately a lot of people think 'pulling down the next person' is a meaningful business strategy. |
Re: NNPCL To Construct Another International Gas Pipeline To Europe by Believeintruth: 5:07pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
obailala: Dude you are really living in dreamland and you really don't understand the game France has against Nigeria. You think France will allow Niger and Algeria partner with Nigeria for that pipeline, you ate really a joker walahi. Well in your heart you know the truth, but in your quest to deceive people in this forum to justify your propaganda fees you will still say otherwise. Buhari conceived this project as far back as 2017 but up until now it has not been fully implemented, do you know why? It is the same issue I highlighted, the fees Nigeria will pay per cubic ft of gas supplied through the pipeline that will pass through Algeria and there's Niger who will also charge per cubic ft and these would be added to the total selling price for Nigerian gas. So in terms of competitive advantage whose gas will be cheaper? And mind you we still have a large domestic gas market for energy which will need to be satisfied so definitely we will be stretched. So it is a no brainer going through the north. Leave ethnic sentiments and cheap propaganda politics aside the move is not feasible economically and we will lose out so much in this. The person who will make so much from that pipeline is Algeria. |

Believeintruth:Propaganda fee? Who's paying that? You think everybody you meet online is hungry for the pitance you guys get from selling your conscience online? You're not more knowledgeable than the people who conceived the idea of this pipeline over 50 years ago (probably before you were born). The fact that you think the Trans saharan Gas pipeline was conceived by Buhari in 2017 just confirms my suspicion that you're largely ignorant on the matter being discussed. You're just making emotional arguments because you hate the govt and feel a compulsion to oppose anything you think the govt does. A friendly advice - Quit commenting on topics you have no clue about. |

obailala: Dude shut up please. You are just playing propaganda here and your eye service stinks. The trans Sahara pipeline concept was designed in the Buhari administration even if past administrations muted the idea. But even at that it still remained a pipe dream because of the issue of how countries will tax for gas that passes through the pipeline as it charts through their countries. Once agains just shut up abeg |
