Nigerian govt officials are illiterates ––Oyedepo

THE founder of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners’ Chapel International,  Bishop David Oyedepo, has berated Nigerian leaders over government’s insincerity, saying that a revolution in the political arena will  prevent the country from disintegration.

Oyedepo said this at the launch of the United Nations-Global Report on Human Settlements held at the Africa Leadership Development Centre, Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, on Tuesday.

The cleric lamented the gross insensitivity of the government to the plight of the masses, describing most people in government as illiterates.

He said: “Something may strike in Nigeria soonest. There must be a revolution in our political arena if we want to be redeemed from total collapse. Our politicians are sitting on a keg of gunpowder. “It is a pity that we have a system that is highly insensitive to the plight of the people. Most people in government today are largely made up of illiterates who don’t have interest in information.”

He noted that poor governance had ravaged the nation, insisting that government lacked the ability to facelift the poor state of infrastructures.

“Nigeria has been afflicted with poor governance which is our greatest problem. Government doesn’t have the capacity and morality to revamp our infrastructure.

“Nothing about government has ever worked. Everything is actual political robbery. There is gross insensitivity from the part of the government,” he said.

The Director, Monitoring and Research Division, UN-HABITAT, Nairobi, Kenya, Professor Oyebanji Oyeleran-Oyeyinka identified good governance capacity as the only measure in tackling the various problems posed by climate change.

The don, who presented the UN-Global Report 2011 at the event, claimed that the questionable status of governance in Nigeria had hindered the improvement of urbanisation.

He, however, stated that only good policies and infrastructural deficit are the solutions to some of the problems.

Oyeleran-Oyeyinka said: “The good governance capacity of countries must start to improve. Infrastructural deficit is a major starting point in dealing with climate change. Nigeria cannot claim not to have money to do the basic thing but because our governance capacity is highly questionable.”

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Aize Obayan maintained that universities must continue to encourage viable linkages and partnership in galvanising potential, expertise and resources to improve the human condition.

For the second time in a couple of weeks, I find myself agreeing with Oyedepo.

Nigerian leaders are actually sitting on a time-bomb if they refuse to fix the problems and continue to loot the treasury blind.

Our leaders are pushing themselves into a corner. Do you know that if some Nigerian leaders are killed people will rejoice? That is a horrible position to be in as a leader. Our leaders need to get their act together.

^^^Exactly. The so-called leaders have overdone the looting to the extent that they are becoming endangered. It is in their interest to change and do the will of the people.

Maybe the followers are foolish themselves but it remains their right to end such injustice. In the words of Thomas Jefferson,he said ''Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends [ life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness ] it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and institute new government''.
Nigerians should wake up !

Re: Oyedepo Foresees A Revolution In Nigeria by 2mch(m): 8:38pm On Oct 19, 2011
Oh Oyedepo should just shove it mate. When in such a religious country as Nigeria, pastors should be the one leading the revolution, they are the ones fearing it. Make everybody face their job until the time come. The only thing of importance to Oyedepo is tithes, let him keep that lane. When the time comes he will need the money to buy tv air time and new ways to scam the faithful.

Usually when people are sad, they don't do anything. They just cry over their condition. But when they get angry, they bring about a change.
Bring on the revolution.

Was it not the same man that told us God told him Nigeria will be a world power, leading nation and a most sought after destination by 2020.

It is too bad when people tell us their personal opinion and ascribe it to God or the Holy Spirit. Is it that they can't take responsibilty for their own statement?

Don't mind them. These people just Niger Deltans are so few that they can dump on them, forgetting that the country is nothing without oil money that flows from the bowels of the ND. Maybe Niger Deltans should just walk away from the union and leave them with their "prophesies" and "revolutions" out of regions that mainly produce nothing.

Its not enough to give prophesies.
Even in south africa, Desmond Tutu, a cleric played an active role.
Why is TB Joshua, Oyedepo, Bakare etc not interested in taking up this challenge instead of pulpit prophesies?

Oyedepo missedone important FACT. the natives are too damn poor and disfranchised to start a fight talkless a revolution. N200 is the going price for a vote at the presidential elections! how poor can you get that N200 is enough to buy your future. the masses are the illiterates not the officials - they are the smart ones

Good point, the masses, the journalist and the campaign managers are the thieves,  They only think about the present as at the time they vote,  Forgetting that the little money dey bribe them with would not last forever,  The politicians are the smart people,

In sum, the Yoruba political leadership, as mentioned by Balarabe Musa, has shown itself over the years to be incapable of rising above narrow tribal interests and reciprocating goodwill from other sections of the country by treating other groups with respect. Practically every crisis in Nigeria since independence has its roots in this attitude.
The Yoruba elite were the first, in 1962, to attempt a violent overthrow of an elected government in this country. In 1966, it was the violence in the West which provided an avenue for the putsch of 15th January. After Chief Awolowo lost to Shagari in 1983 elections, it was the discontent and bad publicity in the South-West which led to the Buhari intervention.
When Buhari jailed UPN governors like Ige and Onabanjo, the South-Western press castigated that good government and provided the right mood for IBB to take over power. As soon as IBB cleared UPN governors of charges against them in a politically motivated retrial, he became the darling of the South-West. When IBB annulled the primaries in which Adamu Ciroma and Shehu Yar Adua emerged as presidential candidates in the NRC and SDP, he was hailed by the South-West. When the same man annulled the June 12, 1993 elections in which Abiola was the front-runner, the South-West now became defenders of democracy.

When it seemed Sani Abacha was sympathetic to Abiola, the South-West supported his take-over. He was in fact invited by a prominent NADECO member to take over in a published letter shortly before the event. Even though Abiola had won the elections in the North, the North was blamed for its annulment. When Abdulsalam Abubakar started his transition, the Yoruba political leadership through NADECO presented a memorandum on a Government of National Unity that showed complete disrespect for the intelligence and liberties of other Nigerians.

I agree with this part of your post.
Look at most Latin countries, the catholic priests are in the fore front of fighting for change.
Even in South Africa, a retired Tutu is a pain in the backside of the ANC.
Here our pastors have an even greater clout but spend their time praying for looters, arranging private security for themselves, using state security resources as private traffic escorts, compiling pilgrim lists and fronting in the corridors of power for business men.
For all his faults, at least Bakare did something. He formed SNG, you might not be a fan of his candidacy with Buhari but for all his faults (and their are many), i'll rather listen to him than these men.
Either in secret or in the open few felllow pastors identified with Bakare and organisations like SNG,they all seem interested in defending their bellies, forgetting that the church belongs to God and not any man.

This our revolution fit no come o. we never get the lifa yet.

saw three assault riffle totting black-on-black local policemen in conjunction with agberos, beat breakfast, lunch and dinner out of a conductor @ orile for trying to negotiate the flat charge to use the JBN $ CCECC lanes so as to avoid the after work traffic. funny thing was onlooker knew they were wrong, everyone was filled with after work frustration which should be sufficient fuel for intercession but we watched(me inclusive). that scene made me see that the much touted discipline of soldiers is nothing but noise as we had two standing by and they couldnt risk summary dismissal from service for sparking another police-army fracas in an already fragile lagos society.

we go dey here, our revolution go die for our minds and our pastors lips, PDP wins again (as always) naija spirit, i hail
