LASBCA vows to demolish buildings without permit

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Building Control Agency, has taken a firm stance on demolishing buildings that lack the necessary building plan permits.

The agency’s General Manager, Gbolahan Oki, made this vow during a press briefing with journalists on Friday.

He said, “My duty is for any property without a building plan approval, of which I would have to serve all the necessary notices, and once these notices are served without anyone providing a document to that effect, it means that property is an illegal structure.

“This issue has been going on around Ogombo, Eti-Osa area of the state in the last 5 years, and I have been on it for one and a half year. Hence, we are doing the needful by removing the illegal structures because the government must perform their duty.”

Speaking on the demolition of some of the properties located at Ogombo, the LABSCA boss said most of the structures were shanties.

“80-90 per cent are shanties and between 5 – 10 structures at Ogombo are without building plan approval,” he noted.

While decrying the issue of land grabbers disturbing government officials in doing their job at Ogombo, Eti-Osa area of the state, he noted that irrespective of the notices, the land grabbers had continued to build on the land owned by the state government and meant for housing.

He declared, “We have been on Ogombo, Eti-Osa area of the state for over 5 – 10 years. It is a land owned by the state government and meant for housing.

“The land grabbers keep going there to disturb the government officials, sell the lands, and continue to build on those lands meant for the state government, some even come with a fake Certificate of Occupancy.

“We have to stop this act and note that land grabbers are not bigger than the government or the people and we really need to curb them.”

Oki, thereafter, urged that proper due diligence process be conducted before a property is bought.

“When due diligence is conducted, the legal practitioner involved in documenting the agreement would be able to decipher the status of the property,” he concluded.

That's only what we see them do, do you make these permits cheap to be obtained?

And why are they multiple agencies for same structure, doing the same thing, from same state government

This is a good move by the agency, however bribes taking, man-know-man will jeopardize the implementation of extant on defaulters.

Until we are resolute in discharging our duties as laid down by the constitution, we won't achieve much.

Another indirect attack on Igbos?

How did you allow buildings without permit to spring up in the first place?

Nigeria must grow past this wastefulness and nonchalant impoverishment of the people.

Developed countries would rather do anything to prevent you from erecting the structure than coming later to demolish a whole building

Imagine you complaining about illegal structures that are to be demolished because you complain about every little thing. Do you have an illegal building too in that area?

Lolz
If you people de-emphasize collection of money and focus on approving buildings withing 72 hours for small ones and 1 week for bigger ones, EVERYONE will get approval before construction. But instead you charge exorbitant prices and then you drag it till infinity
Re: LASBCA Vows To Demolish Buildings Without Permit. by olisefom: 6:27am On Oct 07, 2023
The only thing Good that I can see about this is that, Lagos government can raise hell of money with this.

Over 70% of houses will be termed illegal and will be made to pay heavily...they will pay when threatened with demolition.
Re: LASBCA Vows To Demolish Buildings Without Permit. by Godswillu(m): 6:37am On Oct 07, 2023
It is only when the Lagos government want to make money that is when they start making such statement.
Structure without permit full everywhere for Lagos infact that is one of the major way to secure the place.

After demolition what next are they going to leave the empty land to become a foot ball field or what or maybe they are still going to built there and if they are still going to built then what's the essence of the demolition just mere permit Rather i think LASBCA should advice them to go get permit other than demolition because there's mire pressing issues than demolition turn your Rader to expressways Pls..
