The typical problems

There is a system in place in Lagos. You need to adhere to this system in order not to get into trouble.

There are private waste collectors that have been licensed by the State Government. You are expected to choose one of these licensed collectors (generally known as PSP) and use them. They give you a bill and you pay at the bank. The State Government takes a small percent of that money and the rest goes to the PSP.

1) You will get into trouble if you don't choose a PSP.

2) You will get into trouble if you don't pay the bill.

3) You will get into trouble if you don't use the PSP.

4) Continuing from 3 above, it is illegal to use cart pushers, burn your refuse or dispose of it in any other way. You must use the PSP.

5) You must provide a waste bin (either by yourself or you can buy one from LAWMA) and you'll get into trouble if you don't have the right size, type (in some cases the bin must have wheels) or number of bins. You must also ensure that you clean your environment and put the waste properly in the bin.

Tokunboh Wahab is the Lagos State commissioner for the environment and water resources.

These are the things that usually lead to premises being sealed.

This is still going to get to domestic environs.

Solid points sir. I doubt people know these things.

just one slight modification though, there are PSPs assigned to all areas in Lagos.

So you practically don't have to choose, there's one assigned to your axis and they don't trespass each other's assigned area.

That has always been the case and in fact the recent increase in enforcement activities actually began with private homes. Its just that they don't get as much attention as markets.

I remember when they were distributing and pasting notices on my street earlier this year (you might not notice because you are not contravening the law).

Ladipo sealed for unsanitary conditions
Marketers - ibo

Aspamda & BBA sealed, unsanitary conditions
Marketers - ibo

Alaba on warning, unsanitary conditions
Marketers - ibo

Ibo arrived Lagos with filth, and the city lost its cleanliness ever since.

Update
Alaba shut down for unsanitary conditions.

If you want Lagos to be clean, first clean out Ibo from Lagos.
