Ah. this so unfortunate.

Jumia need to change strategy of burning cash in the name of incentives to customers. Jumia will tell Nigerians to buy and return anything with no fault. How

Competition is not also helping matter because of all these start ups getting free funds from investors to waste.

So start-ups are only wasting investor's money and the market shouldn't be competitive? Whatever business you're doing, if it's not future-proof, it's only a matter of time before competition suffocates it.

If Jumia cannot remodel their business for optimal profitability, it's better for them to focus on the 'cash cow' which in this case is their online store.

Them de shut down.
They should not add other countries to the list just to show it is a general problem.
I drove pass akowonjo road yesterday, sweet sensation has shut down, they are stripping the property, I stopped at tfc, omo the place dry like desert. Infact they just make small amount of food, no more swallow and other exortic foods eg grilled fish, snails, catfish in stew etc. Just basic rice, few pepper chicken and just one barbeque chicken on display.
Ac sef, for where? Guess they only use Ac when there is Nepa.
In surmarry, what this means is that the purchasing power of Nigerians is being devastated. As time goes, people will only buy what they need ie the basics. Such business as eateries, will fold.
The only leisurely business will be alcohol and olosho. Ie joints. People will keep their money to drink beer, eat point and kill and then to console themselves when drunk is to carry olosho, heavily priced to the bearest minimum though.

this is what your head can rap.

See, the reason I shop blindly on Jumia (paying for what I can't see or inspect physically to my satisfaction on Jumia) is because I have some guarantee and level of confidence that my money is safe and I can get it back should anything go wrong.

Any day Jumia decides to implement this nonsense you typed here, there name na sorry!
I will walking into the market buy what I can see and know I am pleased and go home.

Why because, often times you pay for what you see online (pictures) and when the real item comes you are seeing something else.

True or false? So If true, do you think anybody will buy again from Jumia if Jumia does not have a flexible policy?

Nobody go buy again. They will pack and get out of Nigeria and Africa.
So, they know what they are doing, costumers confidence is everything.

So learn bro, and have a good ahead. đź‘Ť

Boda.. odensin.. Ota aje.

It's your type that will buy products and go and use them for party stained and returned to Jumia that you changed your mind.

Jumia will pay Vendor for the damage because they have investors money to waste.

You said if the policy is stopped you will be going to physical market to shop. Who stops you. They call for animals with horn snail is showing face.

Enemy of progress.

If truely its competition that is driving investors away there would be no need to woo foreign investors and also there will be no inflation in the prices of goods . The sad reality is that the purchasing power of average nigerian is been reduced drastically on daily bases reason for low patronage, on the other hand cost of production keeps on increasing.

No shame for your eye.
Chinese are building; Indians are building, etc. Where are the ones built by Nigerians? What’s happening to the looted amounts? At the end you all will pretend when the companies complain about their inability to repatriate their funds.

How has your party in 8 years made food easily accessible to Nigerians and easily affordable too?

These apps and online food delivery businesses were most relevant during COVID when people valued the convenience and over time, people built direct relationships with some restaurants which meant they could bypass the apps and order from the vendors directly or as is more popular post-COVID, just visit the restaurants themselves. In some cases, we even buy directly from friends, family members and even SMEs on Instagram/X who started the food business as well.

I think we should also factor in the fact that a lot of the educated young people who use services like this have japa'ed so this will definitely affect demand.

And for the past months/years, the economic conditions have been so tough that people don't have the money to spare anymore to buy food online when they are cooking their own meals to save money and even devising means to save cooking fuel while at it. The last time I ordered food on the app for two people, I was surprised at the total amount it came up to when I finished - too high for a one-time meal.

Jumia Food did good, they were there when we really needed such a service; I am sad to see them go but it is what it is.

In this Tinubu’s economy- I am interested in other Stakeholders, especially employees, who are directly impacted by the decision to move away from Jumia Food. Management already asserted that this move is in the best interest of shareholders.

That said, management sometimes take curious decisions. Just give a thought to the rationale behind this strategic shift, which is framed in terms of allocating resources to divisions with a higher return on investment. But, just a little delving , you would see that the decision is not solely driven by the presence of a division with a higher return on capital; rather, it is driven by the understanding that Jumia's Food division cost of capital surpasses the returns.

Jumia Food constitutes a substantial portion (11%) of Jumia's Gross Merchandise Value, and so any investor may want to move beyond a singular focus on the non-viability or non-financial sustainability of the food delivery division. They will want to do a comprehensive evaluation of the overall strategy across other divisions.

I would say, rather than attribute management decision solely to financial metrics, how about we do some industry ratio and trend analysis and consider factors contributing to the decline in active consumers and orders. Are there operational challenges, shifting consumer behaviors, or external factors like the removal of fuel subsidies impacting the cost of delivery? Such analysis will help you interrogate the content of the financial reasons which management claim to drive their decision, you may see that the reason why Jumia food is shutting down is not because of the division diminished financial returns, but rather, it’s a result of series of poor decision-making, management inability to adapt or navigate changes in the business environment or management failure to allocate resources efficiently or ensure efficient operations. So, it’s not the financial return that is the disease, the financial downturn is just a symptom. And we should know what the disease is especially, gleaming from the industry.

The competitive landscape raises additional questions. Why are competitors like Glovo thriving in the sector, and what strategies have Jumia employed to navigate challenges? Or it is just easier, to let go of employees, and use this shut down to scuttle assessment of management performances. If you lost significant market share, why is that not management failure in strategic positioning, market understanding or management failure in responding to industry dynamics?? Moreover , the absence of information regarding the potential return on investment in the other divisions adds to the “MagoMago”. As an investor, seek transparency on the strategic vision for these other divisions, their growth prospects, and the expected returns, re-evaluate Jumia's management strategy, considering not only the financial dynamics.

Biko, addressing the multifaceted reasons behind the decline in Jumia Food's performance is to gain more insight about the overall going concern of Jumia as you may elucidate strategies from such assessments that could help overcome potential challenges in other divisions. If you want to restore my confidence as a shareholder, this will be crucial in Jumia's overall business trajectory.

How did you come to the conclusion that Glovo is thriving? When did Glovo enter the Nigeria Food delivery Market? How long has Jumia operated in the food Market?

Are you aware Bolt food also exited the Market? I bet the Jumia hierarchy know about what you stated about trend analysis et al and even more. They have taken a decision they consider best for their business. You are not privy to the fine details. Respect the decision. You may also undertake the industry analysis as a personal assignment and share your findings for the benefit of interested persons.

What incentives.. jumia is actually the main scammer 96% of goods sold there except food cupboard are substandard, what you buy isnt what you get reason most folks re back to physical shopping, their prices for food are 2x higher than the mallam on your street so why bother? As per returning items it takes weeks most times and you get a voucher less the amount you spent its only in extreme cases u get fully refunded(e.g damaged item or diff item which is jumias fault)
