The same fashion is happening in the GRAs in Kaduna. Almost all the roads are being gated now.

At a town hall meeting In 2009 the Lagos State Government announced a policy on gates on public roads. It decided that street gates could be erected by residents, but they can only be shut between midnight and 5am and they must be manned by private security personnel who would open the gates for emergency service personnel in case the need arises. See here http://www.tundefashola.com/archives/news/2009/01/27/20090127N01.html

The government once again ordered the removal of unapproved street gates late in 2020. See previous thread here https://www.nairaland.com/6299341/lagos-orders-removal-unapproved-street

The government began removing unapproved street gates in May 2021. See previous thread:

There have been severe traffic jams in Lekki in the past few days and the government once again urged residents to remove unapproved street gates. Now the government has started removing the gates.

There should be NO gate at all.
If you are so concerned fortify your existing prison call house to the level of those global renowned isolated prison or under rock dungeons.
Just leave the roads alone na one plot you buy please don't turn the residents into inmates.
If God is closing road what will happen?

Taking the gates away is thievry on its own, dismantle the thing and leave it by the side so that the residents can do the needful

This is not realistic in every where. The road in front of my house is meant to be private as we did it up ourselves and put a gate. Now most of the roads in lekki are private as there was no plan in them areas B4 development came., however I think the broke the law when they failed to man the gate. There should be a visible body there to open the gate.I shall agree with you on that one plus the gate serves as a big deterrents to kidnappers and vehicle driving criminals.

Truth be told, if this whole nonsense can happen on the island, where we believe there's a modicum of sanity, I wonder what on earth will be happening on the mainland, where disorderliness is the order of the day.

I believe it's about time, LASG shift their focus to the mainland, particularly those living in Alimosho, Ifako/Ijaiye, Oshodi/Isolo local government areas.

Many of the people living in those LGA think it's their God given right to misbehave and do whatever they like.

Bruh you have no idea.

I can remember going to one part of mainland, there was this particular street that was in between two streets. It was perpendicular to the other two streets forming H.

The residents of the street in their wisdom decided to erect a gate on one side and permanently lock it undecided

So if you follow google map, it would lead you to a locked gate, you then have to follow the street down a longer way before you can see a turning to lead you into the street in question. Very nonsense something.

Biko if you don’t feel safe on your street, move somewhere else. Stop stressing commuters.

It's just very selfish behaviour. They are thinking about just themselves and not about the impact of their actions on others.

There are no good roads on the mainland, and the terrain is not like the Island axis. Therefore, more roads should be created on the mainland, where do you want to street gates on the mainland that is permanently locked? they don't need government to bulldoze them away, Island that everybody is doing big man. Abeg jaare. lol! grin grin grin grin

There is barely any illegal gates blocking inner roads on the mainland. You say Island Ajah, Badore, Igbo Efon, Osapa, Jakande, Lagos Island are these not part of the island? what sanith do you have in these places?

it's not for segregation but for security reasons. I only agree with the lagos state government that these gates should he open for u at required time bt u see some closing their street gates as early as 10pm inconveniencing the public.

The whole place was developed by LASG. You can't lay claim on your plot and still claim the road that traverses the whole area..

That you did a road does not make it private, it is the property of LASG.

Exactly, that is one thing that I love about Igbos.

As wonderful as this your comment of this guy below me would have being, your desire for Yoruba Land(Igbos are already determined not to be enslaved) to still be Nutritionally Enslaved to the North even with your Tinubu as President shows that your IQ is way below average. Cow, Beans, Legumes, etc. Yoruba And is far more fertile for both Animal Production and Crop Production than any other part of Nigeria and Awolowo proved it.

All that Yoruba Youths needs to massively be demanding from President Tinubu at this Point is that he should massively pump Billions into starting Mechanized Agricultural Farms and Farm Settlements that should be leased to them so that those that seriously work and Profit are later allowed to forever own the landed Properties. This would make the Yourba Youths know that you don't need YahooYahoo to become a Millionaire. The President should also do what Awolowo did by Providing means of Processing, Transportating and Exporting the Farm Produce into International Market. This was how the Great Awolowo Encouraged Yoruba Land to become the Richest Part of Nigeria and generated the Money with which Cocoa House and all the Industrial and 1st Ever in Africa Infrastructural Developments were achieved by the Yorubas.
The Enemies of Yoruba Land soon quickly Forcefully merged Yoruba Land with other Parts of Nigeria, and ever since then massively used Federal Propaganda Media Tools to Brainwashed the Next Generation to think that Farming is Useless to them. cry
Gibberish..... what is this one saying?

How can you go and put a gate on the road we have be using before you were born, a normal Street, you put gate at beginning and end of the street and call it Estate , that is what is increasing traffic in Lagos, because those small roads has been blocked by VGC wannabes, who keep putting gates on our short cuts roads

Lekki Phase 1 was developed by the Lagos State Government (New Towns Development Authority). It was planned by the government. It doesn't matter if you helped them to build the road, it is owned by the government. Unless the road is within a private estate, it is a public road. All those gates that were removed are on public roads. Anything else is illegal and will be a distortion of the masterplan.

Better but the government should provide adequate security.
It is a shame we're where we're today,🇳🇬 so called political elite's are irresponsible. They go with police escorts left right & centre binding the citizenry to the philistines. If government had provided adequate security for all there won't be need for gates in all the streets.

We're our problem !!!

Aren't those gates and barriers installed because of the insecurity in lagos state?

Is the lagos state here by assuring all in these estates sustainable security?

Kudos to Lagos government for pulling down the gates of jericho lekki phase 1,impunity left right & centre. Anyone that wants privacy should go to VGC,BANANA ISLAND,EKO ATLANTIC,NICON TOWN,IKOTA HOUSING ESTATE,MAKOKO ORI OMI etc

Just the other day I dey drive inside lekki phase 1 & I wan navigate my way pass go the next road only for me to see gate left right & centre something wey no dey before.

This should serve as deterant to lekki phase 1 residents and every other locations across board.

Davido left lekki phase 1 to banana island due to privacy so other should emulate him rather than inconveniencing people because of 1 plot of land.
