Governors Queue Behind Sylva

Some PDP governors want the party to clear their Bayelsa colleague for re-election[/url].

People's Democratic Party's (PDP) governors have constituted a five-member committee to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan and the party leadership in a bid to put pressure on them to the pave way for the clearance of Governor Timipre Sylva.

Speaking to journalists at the State House Abuja on Thursday, Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State justified the governors' intervention, describing it as an exercise in self-preservation.

According to him, it is Sylva today and could be any other governor tomorrow.

Suswam said his colleagues expected a positive resolution of the matter and were still awaiting the outcome of the meetings between the committee, Jonathan and the leadership of the PDP.

"This issue is being addressed at the highest level between the party, the PDP governors and the president and there is a committee which I am not a member that was set up by the PDP governors to meet with the party," he said.

"Naturally, he is our colleague and we expect that we all go together and so, it’s a game of self-preservation anyway. We take ourselves as governors and we expect that what affects one governor indirectly affects other governors as well."

Asked what step the governors would take if the party still refuses to clear the Bayelsa state governor for the primaries, Suswam said: "We will cross the bridge when we get there. We haven’t gotten to that level, we believe that we are dialoguing on the matter and when we get to where you have mentioned, we will cross the bridge. We haven’t gotten to that yet."

The national leadership of PDP had cleared some candidates in two separate batches for the November 19th gubernatorial primaries, but so far the names of the Sylva; the former Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta, Timi Alaibe; and the former Director General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ben Murray Bruce, are still missing on the list.

The gubernatorial aspirants cleared so far include: Oruta Boloubo, Henry Dickson, Enai Fullpower, Michael Youppele, Doukpala Amaebi, Fred Korobido, and Austin Febo.

On what basis? Am sure many of them are on their 1st term in office trying to safeguard their 2nd term as well even when they don't perform. Rubbish!

That man Sylva is strong enough to dis-organize Nigeria. We need negotiations with him. Those Governors are trying to prevent an unnecessary war.

These governors just line up behind anything.  Are they guided by reason at all? Sylva that has not changed the face of Bayelsa in half a decade?    Bayelsa should be one of the easiest states to develop given relatively large resources and low population.  Why didn't these governors put pressure on him to develop Bayelsa?

Suswan and d rest are so irrational, are they(governors) above d law? If no y try 2 plead and justify a punishable offense by law. Sylva's act is threat against national security, wich is treason! We r watching d development wit kin interest cos sylva must go 4rm power 2 prison

Strong enough to dis-organize Nigeria? shocked shocked shocked  This sounds ludicrous.

Do you want to share your reasons for this larger than life image of Sylva - a man that is not strong enough to develop a state of 8 local governments with so much resources (FAAC, IGR, Bonds) at his disposal?

Must governor's fight 4 dere selfish interest and not 4 a general good. Wat a controversial story, sylva our own broda became a pharoah in our attained promised land flowing wit milk and honey yet suffering underdevelopment. Bayelsa a paradox of poverty in d midst of plenty kan't b owed 2 resource curse but bad leadership style and exposure. Sylva is d biggest mistake dat hapened 2 bayelsans and dat mistake is about 2 b corrected. Suswan and odas shud learn 4rm Amaechi

I wonder why the discussion about considering Sylvia is still on the table,a man who threatened the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ought to b answering some serious questions at the SSS office by now,but of course our C-in-C(who is obviously ignorant of his authority) will rather opt for a quiet way out and shake hands with the good 4 nothing Governor.
I trust Baba in dis kinda matter, after he has bribed all the state assembly members to dethrone the man and strip him of every so called immunity,he will set him up on a lunch date with Madam Waziri.
I just hope oga Johnny doesnt give in to the irrational gimmicks of these Governors.

why the governor still disturbing himself? i think he file a case against the pdp primaries to be held 19 Nov ? he said he is still the flag-bearer of the party according to the one held for April 2011 general election. Let him go and ask Governor Obi so that he will teach him game that is all.

These govs are just showin solidarity because he is one of their own. But sincially he has got no credentials n justification for occupyin dat office, Imagine a state wit no major project being commissioned in 4 yrs. As am posting dis, october salaries have not been pd.
