ezeagu: love this Ileke idi and cohorts you win. Igbos "roamed the forests unclad until yorubas came to their rescue". However, igbos are indisputably better looking. One point for each ethnic group. Happy now? |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by oludashmi(f): 1:08pm On Nov 23, 2011 |
Anybody could have influenced anybody cos we all originated frm somewhere and have accommodated foreigners at one time or the other. What matters is that we all have our known ethnic cultures and traditions within the country called Nigeria and the poster is only talking about inter-tribal influence at the present not in the 18th century. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by tpia5: 3:35pm On Nov 23, 2011 |
So, lets list some things in yoruba culture which were influenced by igbo or other tribes. Cant really think of anything but maybe someone else can. I heard masquerades were influenced by nupe but i seriously doubt that. I'd say they're more of ugbo, going by the moremi story. I dont know if ogbono was adopted from igbo cuisine. Yorubas call it apon. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by Chyz2: 3:50pm On Nov 23, 2011 |
tpia@: You damn right ogbono was and you know it. So was egusi! Seems like your speaking too soon my dear. And if you dont think nupe influenced yoruba go read a book on it. Although I am pretty sure you know they influenced you people. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by tpia5: 4:02pm On Nov 23, 2011 |
^Islam in yorubaland was mainly introduced by nupe slaves, according to some sources. Nupes were also found in yoruba armies and courts- they were part of the middlemen who supplied the oyo calvaries with horses from libya or hausaland. So, nobody is saying they had no influence at all. Same way yoruba had influence on them and some northern yorubas were absorbed by them. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by tpia5: 4:04pm On Nov 23, 2011 |
I dont think egusi is from igbo but garri could be from central or south america. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by Chyz2: 4:35pm On Nov 23, 2011 |
tpia@: Notice how you always saying "think" but in actuality you "know" but are too ashamed to admit it. Egusi is purely Igbo in all sense go ask mama na! |

Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by cantell(m): 5:08pm On Nov 23, 2011 |
tpia@:You must be high on crack for vomiting that rubbish. So because una no get better soup, our own go turn to another person own? Better go to igbobi and get a refill, you might lose it completely. |

What do igbos know of egusi before the amagamation of Nigeria http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=J7kdAQAAIAAJ&q=origin+of+egusi+soup&dq=origin+of+egusi+soup&hl=en&ei=2SDNTuSlI8W98gPLl8wE&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CC8Q6AEwAA http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=6jrlyOPfr24C&pg=PA185&dq=origin+of+egusi+soup+yoruba&hl=en&ei=uCHNToDFMsOk8QO6rJXbDw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CDEQ6AEwATgK#v=snippet&q=egusi%20yoruba&f=false before colonisation, there was nothing like egusi in IGBOLAND. http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=cTNGxyb2ws0C&pg=PA505&dq=origin+of+egusi+soup+yoruba&hl=en&ei=uCHNToDFMsOk8QO6rJXbDw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CDkQ6AEwAzgK#v=onepage&q=origin%20of%20egusi%20soup%20yoruba&f=false Really you people need to stop acting like retards. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by aljharem3: 5:45pm On Nov 23, 2011 |
The original name of egusi is agushi which the yorubas changed to egusi today and the igbos and even hausas adopted http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=QXFmu4tt6GkC&pg=PA204&dq=origin+of+egusi+soup+yoruba&hl=en&ei=uCHNToDFMsOk8QO6rJXbDw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CD4Q6AEwBDgK#v=onepage&q=origin%20of%20egusi%20soup%20yoruba&f=false |
