Boko Haram Attacks Geidam Township In Yobe State

The islamist militant sect, Boko Haram,today staged a dramatic attack in the northeastern town of Gaidam in Yobe state. Our sources described the attacks which  was still ongoing as at the time of this report as similar to those of Damaturu three weeks ago.

Those attacks killed over 100 residents as Boko Haram engaged in a campaign of bombing and direct attacks against christians groups and security agencies, particularly the police.

Churches, homes and the police headquarters in the small northeast Nigerian town of Geidam of Yobe state were set ablaze in a wave of night time gun and bomb attacks by the radical Islamist sect, the police said on Sunday.

Boko Haram, whose name translates as "Western education is forbidden" from the local Hausa language, has claimed responsibility for dozens of shootings and attacks with improvised explosive devices this year.

"The Geidam divisional police headquarters and First Bank were bombed on Saturday evening by Boko Haram and fire was exchanged into the night between police and Boko Haram members," a police spokesman told reporters.

"Four policemen were killed, 20 wounded, eight churches and 20 market stalls as well as Geidam council secretariat are completely destroyed."

Geidam is a small town in Yobe state, which straddles the Nigeria-Niger border, and is the home of the powerful state governor. Boko Haram often targets politicians, who the sect say are corrupt and have left the northeast region impoverished.

Boko Haram's attacks have mostly taken place in and around Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, which borders Yobe state and neighbouring countries Niger, Cameroon and Chad.

A boost in military numbers in recent months in Borno has pushed the sect's attacks further afield, security sources say.

Boko Haram claimed responsibility for an attack in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe, earlier this month that left at least 65 dead. It was also behind two bombings in the capital Abuja this year, the latest in August, a suicide attack at the U.N. building which killed 26 people.

I still cant understand why our security agencies do not want to admit that boko haram is a terrorist organisation that has link with al qaida.There may be political boko haram who have been issuing political statements lyk the governor of borno must resign.But they have never bomb or killed anybody and yet our security agencies wil tel us they are responsible

Is the American security also a big shame for not wiping out al Qaida. A terrorist group and an aimless one like BH is not a conventional criminal gang like we all seems to think. [size=15pt]It will continue to thrive so long as its host community continue to provide it with support, sympathy and silence. The day the ordinary citizens of the north east says enough of BH, they will become history. Its far more than a question of competence of the Nigeria security. That is why Boko Haram is not believed to possess the capability or support structure to conduct a sustained campaign outside its traditional stronghold in the north-east. While further incidents remain possible in Abuja and other northern cities, a major attack further south in Lagos remains unlikely

It’s important that all well meaning Nigerians, work with common objectives and with a clear line of accountability putting emphasis on preventative and self-protection work, alongside a focus on enforcement activity. In addition to a clear basis for enhanced international cooperation in combating this global threat. BH guerilla tactics is about surprise attacks. They are not trained and cannot stand ordinary NIgerians face to face talk-less of our soldiers.
They want to be in the news at all time. They want to strike fear into people's heart in order to discredit military efforts. I think Nigerians should be wiser than them and act in unity against boko haram[b][/b]. We can condemn the state after this mess is cleared.

Boko-Haram will fade off in the next regime, but not this one.
Nigerians should just make sure they voted for a Northerner. And when a Northerner get there. Niger/Delta, Mend, Ijaw militant will spring up too. Boko haram will step down to allow their man concentrate, but nija/delta will also distract their man too.

When Bokos goes down, Niger/deta will spring up.

Thats the logic. Niger/Delta are hiding now because they dont want to distract GEJ attention. They dont want to spoil things for their son. But when they have nothing to loose again, they will start their madness.
