What Is The Big Deal About Fashola? Nonsense! Pt 2 by Nobody: 2:03pm On Dec 16, 2011
During his 1st term in office, Lagosians were successfully made to believe that Fashola was actually working, when less that 50% of generated income both from the federal level and internally generated tax was spent on Lagos state development. Its now Glaring and Obvious that all Fashola was interested in was his 2nd term bid, which he won on a platter of Gold. Same person that once claimed that 2nd term in office to him is like a child who went to school, failed and repeating the same class. Let's take a look at the current state of the Lagos roads, that our so called special governor is acting oblivious about. Let's not forget that Eti-Osa Local Government and Ikeja LG realizes well over N7Billion from taxes alone.

Let no one be deceived by the construction of the newly built Ikeja City Mall, as it was a joint project with majority of the equity coming in from the Private sector.

In conclusion: "Fashola is as Clueless as Goodluck Ebele Jonanthan presently"

Honestly, I think Fashola can do a whole lot better than he is now given the population of Lagos he can use to his advantage. I think Fashola is more of a socialist than a capitalist hence the reason why Lagos, although improved, but has a long way to go. With the issue of bad roads, in almost every developed economy, the car owners remit a minimal auto tax to the state government for road maintenance, environment clean etc. That's a potential running in hundred of million of $$$$ for the size of Lagos, however, until Gov. devises a system for how auto owners renew their taxes (obviously not using thuggery), the system will continue to be plagued.

I've always said it, Fashola has a potential and can do a whole lot better than he is now, but he needs to find the right system and approach to solve issues.

Some of you guys will just open your mouth wide and throw out rubbish! It's obvious that you just came to Lagos not long ago. The fact remains that Fashola has performed creditably well. Incase you wish to know, I will list all his accomplishment and you will be amazed. Don't be quick to forget history!

Fashola is a big deal! it is undeniable, however you feel about tinubu and cohorts, it is obvious the he working. the simplest comparison to any state or any governor in Nigeria will present simple results, he is a blessing not only to Lagos, but Nigeria on the whole & the federal government shud give him more freedom to develop the state.

No doubt he is doing a good work but comparing him to other governors isn't fair because many people have stressed that other states do not have source of revenue generation like Lagos does (pro for Lagos), while opponents stress that Lagos infrastructures etc is old and very minimal in number compared to 18million residents (con for Lagos). As you can see, there shouldn't be a basis of comparison; let it be strictly up to his performance compared to resources available at his disposal.

@ Poster,

This post is an unfair assessment of Gov. Raji Fashola.

Four months ago, i was irked at the deplorable state of some major roads in Lagos. Thereafter, one of the government officials informed on TV that the roads will be fixed as soon as the rainy season halts.

To my astonishment, the remedial works were triggered immediately the rains stopped. Examples of such works are:

The dolphin estate U turn by Federal Secretariat; second avenue, ikoyi; alfred rewane road; ongoing works at Ogudu; Ahmadu Bello road by atlantic beach gate; etc

I have made this list based on my own jurisdiction which is at most two local government areas of Lagos. I am certain same gesture is ongoing in other parts of Lagos.

If only the Federal Government can concentrate on few major roads linking the southwest, south east and south south; for example, ore- benin road, east west road to PH; many Nigerians will be thankful and more lives will be saved on a daily basis.

but can the same be said of the FGN with huge/fat pocket? what have they (PDP) done in this country if we wanna belittle Fasolas works?

fact remains, the rot in Lagos started many years back. it didnt start today

For those who reside in Lagos, we know the Lagos we had say 10 years ago and the lagos we have now

The difference is clear. If he what hes doing isnt exciting enought to elicit any form of celebration, at least we are of the view that hes not doing badly compared to what we have been fed in the past. With this in mind, hes a mini god amongst the useless deities around

Apparently the FG has it's own issues that need resolve and the degree of control/legislative politics in FG is way too complex as compared to the state level, nevertheless, I'm not making excuse for them either. However, the issue is about Fashola, not the FG nor any other State Governor.

I acknowledge the rot in Lagos has been there for decade(s), however, I'm of the opinion that it takes a strong and "at will" leader to reduce "NOT" eradicate corruption. Though the works of Mr. Governor is clearly seen, and in no doubt, is obvious, my argument has always been, unless I thought otherwise, Fashola can do a whole lot better as opposed to to anyone else.

Obviously people whom things are done for will definitely celebrate as a form of thanksgiving, ain't nothing wrong with that, question is, is Gov Fashola utilizing the maximum potential for his type of leadership? For instance, let me veer off a lil bit, I'm a strong critic of SLS, though I admire his leadership personality but he lacks the experience to lead the CBN as opposed to lead a state. This is my point exactly, Fashola has the leadership capability, he's done well and excelled beyond average, he's a strong candidate but the question remains; has he maximized his leadership to the highest potential?

Good points

i agree we can/should do better

and let me say this; im not the kind of guy who jump on the bandwagon to praise/criticise

Fasola has his bad sides (my opinion). The recent hike in tution fees in LASU and the proposed tolling on a 22km road in Lekki are areas i think he should have a re-think. Hes not exciting but so far; ill take him ahead of any political figure in the country

I think the best response to this kind of post is to ignore it and not to comment. But for the sake of the posters ignorance I'll tell you this. I remember I used to tell people how I get to found bad roads in the UK fixed before the next morning when I was still leaving there, same was my experience recently with some roads on the Island. The roads were fixed before the next morning without any undue inconvenience to the road users. That is what is called governance and they did not even make noise about it. The bad part of the roads have been resurfaced. And I think at times we make unnecessary demand of this man as if all roads in Lagos are under his jurisdiction. What are the LGAs doing and what about our great PDP lead ailing government. Not that I am saying its a big deal but I think it'll be unfair to say he's not doing anything like our president with so much motion but no movement.

As regards the Lekki toll, I feel its a commendable project but the motivation behind the project was more of greed than peoples welfare. Tolling is not alien to modern societies, seeing this toll gate for the first time what came to mind was the Sam Houston road (bridge) in Houston Texas. while the road was tolled you have the alternate route run aside the full stretch of the road on both going and coming lanes, you even have a super fast lane where you pay more to move at a faster speed. This I expected of LCC but to my dismay they provided an 'AGBOLE' (Short narrow cut) route and called it an alternate route. That to me is a deceit and extortion and I would implore our honorable governor to rescind this unpopular idea until a real alternate route is provided.
