ABUJA – AS medical personnels continue to cope with overbearing pressure from victims of Madalla, Suleja Christmas bombing, the Presidency is set to organise a National Security Summit, NSS, in the new year on possible best ways to secure Nigeria in the present and future.

Top security officials, Sunday, rose from a crucial session with a declaration that Boko Haram decision to destroy Nigeria must be urgently nip in the bud, saying that the menace underscores the budgetary proposal for 2012 fiscal year.

The security chiefs also want the federal government to declare the new year a security year, as part of deliberate efforts to tackle the rising wave of insecurity in Nigeria, essentially the Boko Haram terror group and many other ethnic militia formation across the country.

Also, as part of fresh measures to address the growing security concerns, the security hierarchy has adopted a recommendation for a security summit early next year, where top Nigerian security actors are expected to inject fresh ideas into ongoing efforts by government to stem the tide.

The security summit which is being planned by the Federal Government is to hold in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and will be funded through the 2012 financial votes for national security.

An impeccable security source told Vanguard that “no amount of budgetary allocation is too much for security related projects because all over the world, security is a top priority of every responsible government and Nigeria cannot be an exception, especially in the face of current level of insecurity”.

According to the source, the security summit would encourage all security experts, both serving and retired personnels to mount the stage and speak openly and frankly, in a manner similar to the constitutional conference, which would make far reaching recommendations to government on present and future security measures.

It was learnt that the summit is a follow-up to a recent meeting of all former National Security Advisers, NSAs, which was convened by the office of the incumbent NSA, Gen. Andrew Azazi, to discuss the menace of Boko Haram and the best ways out.

this boi called jona is not serious.we are talking of SNC,he is still talking security summit when it is obvious that the damage have be done already and no form of summit can truly unite us unless a SNC where we can discuss our terms of living together and how we want to live.i will rather advice leaders from the MD,SS,SE,SW to ignore the summit because it is just a waste of time and also use it as a message to the core north that their days with Nigeria are numbered.

It is time to split this sick country,my heart is angry, we cant take it anymore.Enough is enough, I hope everybody is preparing??

If the outcome of this security summit is amnesty for this new terrorist group, Nigerians must reject it.

We are at a risk of creating a system or society that rewards violence if this turns out to be case.

Who is to say another terror group will not emerge with the hope of erning their own summit where they will get paid for their violnce.

Isn't this the same security summit ACN called for right after the elections? Instead of seeing the far-sightedness of that call GEJ sent his "thugs" after Tinubu.

In any case, a security summit is too late in the day. I don't know why the Presidency keeps following Boko Haram's lead.

The only way to defeat Boko Haram is to anticipate and nip their actions in the bud

The word, clueless is just a fad in Nigeria.
It is the new fashion to just level a charge of cluelessness without digesting the full import of the info before us.

If I have now got your kind attention, what that declaration means is that we have taken an inexorable step toward outright war. Those with a keener sense of history will recall the Aburi Accord, its like history repeating with the tables turned. Let those with ears, hear.

Choose where you stand.

Let them organize the security summit in Maiduguri; Nigeria is now competing with Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq for the Olympic gold medal in civilian casualties from bomb blasts.

"Nip in the bud" my ass! This problem has already grown huge stems, tubers and flowers and we are still talking about nipping in the bud? This is the time to deploy recovery measures. We are no longer just trying to stop an emerging problem because we are in soup already. What I expect now is focused intelligence and fierce action against these boko rams.

A lot of people don't realize we are at war. I hope people can begin to appreciate why so much has been allocated to security in budget 2012.

Security summit huh! Is that what the genius in Aso-Rock villa just invented? Backside wipe
Re: Boko Haram Bombings: Presidency To Organise Security Summit by Bawss1(m): 9:52pm On Dec 25, 2011
Security summit is just political speak for "we have run out of ideas and are willing to try anything now". An understandable dilemma, I must admit.

In other words all that talk we heard from the govt about BH becoming a "thing of the past" was just hogwash.

God forgive me for making a joke out of a serious issue.

I have given Jonathan the benefit of doubt all along, knowing that without being in his shoes it is hard to gauge and pinpoint where pressure hurts his feet, but I am beginning to see a pattern in his steppings and pace.  Jonathan is clueless on politics and governance.  Jonathan is exactly where the Arewa political elements need him to be - vulnerable and weak!

He is the only President in our history, civilian or military, with the highest academic credentials.  If we say the North cannot rule us because they lag behind the South in academic excellence it infers that competency come packaged only with academic laurels and accomplishments.  The legacy of this Jonathan government will mute that assertion and its inferrence.   Jonathan has failed to stand up for those of us who believe in the value of western education.  A bold victory for Boko who say western education is a failure and they dont need it!

Great initiative. This is the precursor to the main thing, SNC. Gradual graduation. Watch how B follows A. The die is really cast.

A devilishly funny occurrence would be if the summit is held, to great fanfare, and then is bombed by Boko Haram, leavings scores dead.

Re: Boko Haram Bombings: Presidency To Organise Security Summit by Nobody: 8:50am On Dec 26, 2011
This is really disappointing of gej. This is why I always admire George Bush Jnr.Gej needs to demistify the ruling class of the core north.Since he knows those behind these bombings and their sponsors,he should have them charges to court, convicted and given death sentences, and these death sentences should be carried out. This is what the core north did to the middle belt-- after dimkas coup when they killed many middle belt officers and also after orkars coup. They also did thesame against the yoruba--ie diya, adisa and co  though most of these guys were fortunate to escape with their lives after abachas death. But the damage to diya and co was already done which is why they -- diya and his colleagues dont seem to be reconnend with politically anymore. If these people--  dimka and co,orkar and co and many others schemed out of the military were still alive, there would have been a balance of influence/terror on the polity.
Gej should have ibb, buhari, atiku, abdussalam abubakar, yakassai, chiroma arreseted, tried, convicted and executed for sponsorship of boko haram terrorism. This will demistify the core north and bring northern feudalism under control.

if jonathan is normal, he shld be thinking of how to discuss the possible exit of pdp from govt. they have proved they are as useless as their members. they have no business in the progress and development of nigeria. what summit? is this not another avenue to waste the funds he is about raising from his fuel subsidy removal?
let pdp stay away from govt because they have finished us as a country.
they are natural liars that we can't trust anything they say.
jonathan has won himself the award of the worst president nigeria has even know.
he has nothing to offer apart from hardship.
a president that keeps telling us that we are under the rulership of certain cabals that are above his govt. such a useless comment coming from a self acclaimed learned man.
i am so disappointed.
