Pro-fuel Subsidy Removal Rally In Anambra by Abagworo(m): 7:16am On Jan 11, 2012
http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2012/jan/11/national-11-01-2012-0031.html

Second day into the nationwide strike by organized labour to protest the removal of fuel subsidy, pro-subsidy demonstrators took over the major streets of Anambra’s major towns of Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi.

A ride through these towns showed that normal commercial activities were going on as some business premises were opened, except banks.
The placards carrying demonstrators marched through the major streets of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi describing President Goodluck Jonathan as a courageous leader who should be supported by all Nigerians.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the demonstration, the leader of the group, Raluchukwu Umeh, described the measure as a temporary sacrifice for a better future and urged every discerning Nigerian to support the removal of fuel subsidy, which, he noted, was a move made by the government to bail Nigeria out of her economic doldrums.

Meanwhile, Governor Obi had thanked the people of Anambra State for their understanding over the subsidy removal and appealed to them to continue to go about their normal businesses.
He assured that the initial hardship, occasioned by the removal was manageable rather than the havoc it would have caused the nation in the future.
The Governor called onthe people to be vigilant to ensure that proceeds from subsidy removal were judiciously utilized.

These people don't understand anything. They want to produce president by all means in 2015 thinking GEJ will be so important in that regard. The rest of the country is watching them and we are patiently waiting. No amount of blindfolds and charade of calumnies could right the wrong. Removing the fuel subsidy while corruption in government is at peak is wrong.

You see quite unlike you and your cohorts, I stand by the truth. I'm not against subsidy removal but still accepted that there was a demonstration in support of it. The best you can do is to fault the title.

My guy, do you not know that "Yaribas and almajiris" parasites are the ones destroying Nigeria? They are the fuel subsidy cabal and the only ones who know how to steal. They are the "lazy phucks" committing all the fraud and sabotage holding Nigeria back. They are the only ones who carry out TAM scams that ensure our refineries remain comatose. In fact the geezer below is actually Yoruba regardless of what anyone says.

Emeka Offor’s Kastech And Other Scams
Posted: June 17, 2010 - 01:00

Nigerian mass communication practitioners  have always practised journalism of conscience and national commitment, as former Information Minister Tony Momoh used to call it when he was in the 1970s the editor of the influential Daily Times newspaper. The series of ongoing reports revealing the controversial roles of an otherwise obscure Lebanese firm named Zakhem in countries like Liberia, Ghana and, of course, Nigeria shows the Nigerian media are committed to enduring values and the sanitisation of our society.
Zakhem International, which has practically been declared a persona non grata because of its stupendous bribery of government officials in West African countries, has surprisingly been enjoying a most chummy relationship with the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) which has expectedly been generous to it with gas pipeline contracts totalling about one billion dollars, according to media reports.  When we left the corporation some 20 years ago, the rot had admittedly set in, but no one anticipated it would ever get to the present calamitous level.

The media have also revealed that another eminently controversial company in the gas sector, Kastech, is owned by Sir Emeka Offor, founder of the Chrome Group, who has of late been making headlines as a financier of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rather than as the self-styled godfather of Anambra State politics, which hitherto had been the case. Offor, say the reports, floated this firm to win more government contracts without the public knowing that it belongs to him; preventing the public from knowing became imperative after the odium that trailed—and still trails—the multimillion dollar contract for the Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) of both the  60 000 barrels per day Old Port Harcourt Refinery commissioned in 1965 and the 150 000 bpd New Port Harcourt Refinery and Petrochemicals Company commissioned in 1989.

There is, however, an impression in the media that has to be corrected. And it is the impression that the the Port Harcourt refinery contract is the first TAM job Offor has been involved in Nigeria. Unknown to most Nigerians, including key industry participants and observers, Offor participated in the TAM contract for the 125 000 bpd Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company in the early 1990s. The contract took years to execute, rather than a few weeks. Yet at the end of the day the job was abandoned. The name of the company involved in the so-called TAM was ANCHOFF Strongholds Ltd.

Infuriated by this state of affairs, the Federal Government set up a panel to investigate this mess. The panel was headed by Aret Adams, the most highly respected former NNPC chief executive who was to become the special assistant on petroleum affairs to General Abdulsalami Abubakar when the latter became the Head of State in 1998. Adams discovered, among other things, that Offor’s ANCHOFF Strongholds was unjustifiably paid three billion naira and, consequently, recommended its blacklisting. It also recommended the dismissal of the Warri Refinery Managing Director, Dr Owokalu, who had fled to London immediately the panel was set up. It is a pity that Dr Owokalu is now in total penury. I was one of the people who advised him against the ANCHOFF affair which we knew was going to be a catastrophic national scandal, but he felt I was too junior in the system to advise him.

It speaks volumes about the Nigerian condition that the time Offor became the first Blackman to be awarded an oil refinery TAM contract in Nigeria, he was a mere clearing and forwarding agent in Warri, Delta State, a job he began when he left Julius Berger as an earth moving equipment operator! ANCHOFF Strongholds had just been incorporated hurriedly for the TAM job. There was no bidding of any sort. Some characters in the NNPC leadership and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources conspired to give Offor the hefty job.

Worse is that in spite of the abandonment of the TAM job at the WRPC Ltd and the blacklisting of Offor’s company, as recommended by the Aret panel, Offor went on to win a much bigger contract, that is, the contract to carry out TAM on both the old and new Port Harcourt refineries at Eleme, Rivers State. It was a deal involving the then Head of State, General Sani Abacha; the then Minister of Petroleum Resources, Chief Dan Etete who has since been jailed in France for massive corruption; the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Engr Dalhatu Bayero; and the then Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Giddado Idris, who more or less packaged it. This deal cost the nation over $100m. The refineries were never fixed. The result has been the massive importation of petroleum products into Nigeria on an unprecedented scale—up to this day.

A grateful Offor was to make Idris the chairman of almost every organization of his, including AFEX Bank which he acquired when it was known as Orient Bank with the headquarters in Enugu. With his tremendous financial power derived from the refinery TAM contracts and acquisition of AFEX Bank, Offor moved into Sao Tome and Principe where he has become about the biggest oil player. He even decides who becomes the leader of this tiny island nation with plenty of hydrocarbon deposits.

When President Olusegun Obasanjo assumed Nigeria’s leadership in 1999 and publicly declared anti-corruption a priority of his government, most citizens thought that he would take a hard stance on the Port Harcourt refinery contract. He never did. If anything, he went into bed with Offor in the name of political party solidarity, otherwise called the “PDP family affair”. Offor’s Chrome was paid N8b for the Yola-Bauch transmission line over and above Pivot Engineering which bidded for the electricity job for N6b. In May, 2001, the Obasanjo government awarded the contract for the construction of the Gombe/Yola/Jalingo transmission line to Chrome. Like the first electricity contract, it was abandoned. The House of Representatives Committee on Power  which  looked into the execution of the contracts recommended the recovery of the Gombe/Yola/Jalingo payment, Chrome’s blacklisting and the investigation of the jobs by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.  The recommendations were never carried out. Lest we forget, when the Senate Committee invited Offor to clear the air on his role in the refinery TAM contract, he publicly blasted the members and told them in the presence of the press “no one can blackmail me!”. He walked out on them right there in the Senate. That’s the end of the matter.

The Obasanjo government gave to Offor’s Environmental Remedial Holding Company (ERHC) highly prolific oil blocks in both Nigeria and Sao Tome and Principe for almost free; both countries own and operate the Nigeria-Sao Tome Principe Joint Development Zone. The generous awards caused an uproar in the international scene. Readers may wish to read up the international reaction to these awards by searching the Internet through Google or Yahoo or any search engine.

The Emeka Offor story as regards government contracts in Nigeria is a saga, an epic. Thanks to the Nigerian media for letting the public know that Kastech, which is angling for a $5b contract from the NNPC for the construction of gas pipelines from Ajaokuta to Kaduna and Kano, is another name for Chrome. Kastech has already won two major gas contracts from the PDP government. The first was in 2008 when it was assigned the construction of the 107 kilometre by 24inches gas pipeline which runs from Adanga Addax Platform to Calabar. The contract value is $156m. The second contract is for the integrity assessment and rehabilitation of the Oben-Sapele Gas Pipeline and the upgrade and extension of the existing gas metering facilities. The contract sum is $26.4m plus N1.1b. Still, Offor has no yard or even mere trucks to execute the jobs. He is a portfolio businessman who always clutches supposed Memoranda of Understanding.

How long will things continue this way in our country? Well, there may well be a glimmer of hope. True, a particular very senior NNPC official tells everyone who cares to listen that he is in dire need of money because he is about to leave the system on grounds of old age. True, this official is reputed to have been compromised by all manner of businessmen. But not every NNPC official has sold his conscience.
Kazeem was on the NNPC technical staff.

Very Good. SE folks know what hardship really means. They started life afresh from 20 bucks given to them after the war. The temporary 'hardship' of the subsidy removal is child's play compared to that. March on, compatriots. Nigeria can only move forward by radical policy changes.
Meanwhile the protests (against corruption) should also be targetted against ALL NASS members who are only supporting the subsidy replacement to avoid the mass calling for slashing of their entitlements, state govs and house of assembly members whose embezzlement skills are no less legendary, LG chairmen of whom most don't have any developmental blueprint, do-nothing councillors and all past public officials of the past 4 decades who are the major culprits of our infrastructural predicament

I pity those rented crowds because eventually it is their children the Okija and otokoto patronist will end up using when the wealth is dwindling.

Ado Ekiti — It was like a miracle last Thursday in Ado Ekiti, when a 14-year old teenage girl, Openiye Ranti escaped death after spending 72 hours in the ritualist's den. Ranti, a student of All Soul's Anglican Grammar School, Basiri, Ado Ekiti was kidnapped at about 4pm on Monday by a 6- man ritual syndicates at Basiri Area of Ado Ekiti in a light blue Bus and taken to a hideout between Ado Ekiti and a neighbouring Iyin Ekiti alongside two other teenagers.

The teenager, who lost her consciousness, having been charmed by the evil men was later dropped at the same location at about 7pm on Thursday after the hairs on her head and pubic had been removed for the ritual purpose. Ranti said, she was sent by her grandma, whom she lives with to buy vegetable when the ritualists accosted her and ordered her into the car, which she willingly obliged. She narrated her ordeals to newsmen at Christ Evangelical and Miracle Church, behind Fountain Nursery and Primary School, Omosajana Area of the StateCapital, where she regained her consciousness after several hours of prayers by men of God.

Ranti, whose father, Mr Kolade Omolade, a native of Afao Ekiti is a Traffic Warden with the Ekiti State Police Command said, the men immediately covered her face with a black hood and drove her into a bush, where she was tied to a tree alongside several other old and young victims they met at the dangerous spot.
She explained that she saw a deep cave where the ritualists used to take the next victim to and got an envelope in exchange, which she suspected to be money after the victim had been traditionally certified to be appropriate for the ritual .

The victim suspected the two students kidnapped alongside with her to be students of Christ's Girl School, Ado Ekiti, adding that the students have not been killed when she was relased.
Ranti, who had not fully recovered from the trauma she was made to pass through revealed that, "I was sent to buy vegetable when these six men in one light blue bus called me and asked me to enter into a bus. They immediately covered my face with a hood and drove us alongside two other students in skirt and blouse Purple-coloured.

"The three of us were hanged outside the cave, but I knew that those that were the real ritualists were inside the cave. "When any of the victim is taken into the cave and he was good for ritual, they will give the kidnappers an envelope, which I thought contains huge amount of money".

Speaking further on how she was released, "On Thursday when I was to be killed, I struggled with them as they were dragging me into the cave and a man just emerged and ordered them to take me to where they picked me without giving the reasons and that was how I was charmed and became unconscious until I was brought into this Church". Ranti's sister, Mrs Kemi Olayiwola, who sighted her where she was dropped and brought her to the Church said, she could neither stand nor speak when she was brought to the Church. Kemi told the newsmen that they have searched everywhere in the State Capital in search of the victim since she got missed on Monday before she was found.

The clergyman in -charge of the Church, Pastor Lanre Idowu told the newsmen that he had to hurriedly converge the Church's prayer warriors for a special prayer session before Ranti could regain her consciousness from satanic bondage. "She behaved like a slowpoke when she was brought here, but after about one hour of fire-branded prayer , she began to regain her consciousness". The Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, ASP Victor Babayemi did not pick his telephone sets when he was called to confirm the story

2 men caught with human head in Osogbo
From MUTIU GANIYU, Osogbo

There was a commotion at Kelebe, Osogbo, Osun state as two middle-aged men were caught with a human head . The men after they were caught and beaten to pulp by mob allegedly confessed to have severed the head from a freshly buried corpse at burial ground belonging to Al-Birr (Doing Good) Foundation.
Daily Sun gathered that people in the area have placed the suspects under watch as they have been frequenting the area in the recent times.

Those who spoke said when they were earlier accosted few months ago, the duo said they were bricklayer working in one of the plots in the area. “We have noticed that some people have been disturbing the graveyard recently.

We reported our findings to the police and intensified personal surveillance with local security and vigilante. We also went spiritual. All these yielded positive result and they were caught”, Mr. Jimoh Abdul Lateef, the secretary to the Foundation disclosed. Luck ran out on them when the local security demanded for the content of the black bag carried by one of them early in the morning.

Heated argument ensued as they initially refused to open the bag and when they discovered that they have been exposed, they attempted to escape but they were overpowered and beaten mercilessly. The two were said to have confessed that the head was the sixth severed from corpses in the graveyard. The suspects were later handed over to the police for further investigation.

The two men were detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ring Road, Osogbo.
When contacted, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Solomon Olusegun confirmed the incident, saying that whoever was involved in the case would be prosecuted.

Earlier, Mojisola had accused Gbenga of sundry sins including assault and battery.

The divorce suit has been dragging in court since 2006.

The 50-paragraph affidavit is averred to on Gbenga’s behalf by his solicitors, Addeh Associates.

The tenth paragraph says: “The Petitioner (Gbenga Obasanjo) further avers that he knows for a fact that the Respondent committed adultery with and had an intimate, sexual relationship with his own father, General Olusegun Obasanjo, due to her greed to curry favours and contracts from him in his capacity as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The Petitioner avers that the Respondent also got rewarded for her adulterous acts with several oil contracts with the NNPC from his father, General Olusegun Obasanjo, amongst which was the NNPC consultancy training in supply chain management and project management awarded to her company Bowen and Brown.”

The eighth paragraph says: “The Petitioner avers that the respondent confided in him severally while they living together (sic) that she had been sexually abused and defiled by her father, Otunba Alex Onabanjo on several occasions.”
Neiher Chief Obasanjo nor Otunba Onabanjo could be reached for reaction as at press time last night.

First son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Gbenga, has sensationally accused him and his father-in-law, Otunba Alex Onabanjo, of sleeping with his wife, Mojisola.

Gbenga, presently asking Lagos High Court to dissolve the seven-year-old marriage, doubts the paternity of the fruits of the wedlock.

The shocking revelation is contained in a fresh affidavit deposited to by the petitioner in response to cross petition of the defendant, a copy of which was made available to Sunday Sun at the weekend.

Earlier, Mojisola had accused Gbenga of sundry sins including assault and battery.

The divorce suit has been dragging in court since 2006.

The 50-paragraph affidavit is averred to on Gbenga’s behalf by his solicitors, Addeh Associates.

The tenth paragraph says: “The Petitioner (Gbenga Obasanjo) further avers that he knows for a fact that the Respondent committed adultery with and had an intimate, intimate relationship with his own father, General Olusegun Obasanjo, due to her greed to curry favours and contracts from him in his capacity as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
