The ongoing crisis trailing the recent removal of subsidy on the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, seems to have taken an ugly turn as Ijaw youths in the South-South of the country have now pitched their camp against the labour unions and the Occupy Nigeria protesters.

Speaking at the protest rally, which held on Aggrey Road, in the Old Town axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, various youth leaders from the clans that make up the Eastern Zone of the Ijaw nation expressed bitterness against what they described as efforts by some elements to hurt President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration.

According to the youths, the moment any harm is done to President Jonathan, they would ensure that “there will be no Nigeria again.”

The youths, in their hundreds, wielded placards with inscriptions that indicate their solidarity with the president and acceptance of the Federal Government’s policy of subsidy removal on fuel.

The youths, organised by leaders of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) and a former president of the council, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, also challenged the Federal Government to pay attention to the security situation in the country, even as they warned the dreaded Boko Haram on its policy against Southern Christians.

One of the organisers of the protest, who is also the General Secretary of the IYC (Eastern Zone), Comrade Ala Hart, who spoke to journalists, said they had come out to occupy the streets of Port- Harcourt, just like in Lagos, and would last till the faceoff was resolved.

“We are in solidarity with Goodluck Jonathan, our president, in the removal of the fuel subsidy and we are also here to make a clear statement that the security situation of this country should be addressed. We also want to say that if anything happens to Jonathan, there will be no Nigeria any longer.

“This protest will be for as long as the one in Lagos lasts. We have come to occupy until this issue is once and for all resolved. We support the deregulation of the downstream sector because it is going to be beneficial, specifically to the youth of this region.

“People are sponsoring labour. How do they get the money to remain on the streets, for how long now? This whole thing has become political; the cabal is sponsoring them to stay there and people are making inciting comments, threatening President Goodluck Jonathan. We will not take it from them, that is the clear statement.

“Our people are being killed in the far north, we are also making a clear statement that Boko Haram should watch what it is doing, we will not take it any longer,” Hart said.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Elders’ Council of the IYC, Eremie Otonye, said the removal of the subsidy is the Jonathan administration’s first step towards reducing corruption and wastage in the nation’s economy.

Dis one na just gra gra. The President should listen to Nigerians and avoid people like Asari as they may lead him to his waterloo. Ijaws alone cannot fight Nigeria for more than 3 months. Even Igbos inclusive will only lead us to years of avoidable wars just because of subsidy. To avert possible crisis ,the President should use his powers to revert the price back to 65 Naira.

Tribalising issues will never solve the subsidy crisis. Even dictators like Abacha succumbed to the wish of the masses with regards to subsidy.

And may I add. The subsidy issue has crippled chances of PDP winning 2015 Presidential election. Nigerians will do anything they can to bring them down. Rigging will lead to disaster.

LMAO These clowns.

Asari-Dokubo should keep putting himself in the spotlight of the United States Dept.of State.; one day, soon, when that Hell Fire Missle drops on his head from heaven. . .

For those of you who don't know Asari and his group (including the Ijaw Youth Council and any group/organization linked to them) are labelled as Terrorists. The mor*on probably doesn't even know his "class  desig" by the U.S Govt. Let him keep fomenting trouble instead of sitting his fat but*tt somewhere warm.

http://www.cfr.org/nigeria/mend-niger-deltas-umbrella-militant-group/p12920 (Read the last two paragraphs to understand why I say all those groups screaming "Our Oil" will be severely disappointed at the lack of support they will get from the Western Governments when it all "Gets Down". Nigerians are very forgetful of the past its a freaking shame.) undecided

For more info on how the U.S views these clowns in the Niger-Delta, feel free to check the CSIS website. Read my friends, if you think if all hell breaks lose the U.S won't sit back and watch these new groups get slaughtered by their "old" friends, then you just don't understand how the world works. When the North try to break away in 1966, why did the British insist they sat in the Union? Abi Northerners weren't killing back then like they still are doing today?

A word is enough for the wise. Most of you are not tactical enough in your thinking, and that will be your downfall.

Terrorist Groups:  Profiles of Major Terrorist Groups Around The Globe
In our modern time we are in the midst of the globalization of cultures, economies and unfortunately terrorism.

Terrorism did not start  on September 11, 2001 and it will not stop with the fall of the Taliban, or the capture of Osama bin Laden.  It is one of the first things that you learn when you take on the task of .understanding the minds and hearts of  terrorist groups rather than individuals that are today's face of terrorism.

Terrorist Groups Profiles and Information

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) : A Nigerian militant group that operates out of the Niger Delta has declared war on BIG OIL attacking  international oil companies operating in the region.  The group claims that big oil is destroying and exploiting the Niger Delta and the people that live there in poverty.  For the last fifty years since Nigeria declared independence from British colonial rule, oil has been produced in the country. Throughout this period corporate politics has worked with successive dictatorships. Under these dictatorships Nigeria has enacted laws that gave up oil resources and placed these under the control of international oil companies, such as Chevron, and most notably, Shell. The Movement For The Emancipation of the Niger Delta, known as MEND, is fighting for the complete control of the Oil wealth attributed to the Niger Delta's abundance of the black gold that is creating tensions around the globe as fear grows that future supplies are dwindling. MEND feels that locals in the region have been forced to live in poverty without being provided the simplest of necessities as big oil companies supported by a series of dictators have destroyed their environment and shifted the money to other parts of Nigeria and around the globe.  More  terrorist groups organizations profiles

The issue at hand has been tribalised already unless we want to live in denial.Check most comment on NAIRALAND and places where the protest against the subsidy removal is hottest. And to say the Ijaws action is gra-gra make me laugh because we had same gra-gra during their days bombing oil installation or may be because they never descended so low to bomb their fellow humans like we have up north.Destroying the major crude oil and refined pipelines is enough to bring other part of the country to its knees

I hope you are correct based on the statistics of the average memory of Nigerians. And what if the removal of subsidy bring about a 50% increase in the economy by 2015? and what if we achieve 80% power stability, guess PDP will stay for another 100 years.

Anyone dismissing the threats must have a short memory. I would say no more other than reminding people that the Niger Delta youths do not make unnecessary noise, they just take action.
